I've been having this issue, this is my first android app and I probably did something stupid. I am a total noob at this and this has been driving me insane. Running the app will give me the error, "Unfortunately -app- has stopped working." Help would be appreciated

Please post the logcat stacktrace for the crash so we can help pinpoint the exact problem. However, I would guess that it has to do with your Button.
In your testMethod() you declare:
Button b = (Button) findViewById(R.id.dBID);
But because it is declared inside this method it is not within scope for your activity and exists only inside that single method call and is lost afterwards.
You should declare your button as a class level variable in your Activity/Fragment:

then assign the Button in your onCreate() (or onViewCreate() for a Fragment):
public void onCreate(...) {
myButton = (Button) findViewById(...);
...
and then anywhere else in your class you want to use that Button you can refer to it without needing to pull and cast it again from your view:
button.setText(newButtonText);

Change your class name "ListView" to "OtherName"

You cannot cast an Android listview to your own listview.
Instead of "com.example.shabeer.listview.ListView" you need a "android.widget.ListView". This is the one you are referencing in your xml layout file.

Call listView() method inside onCreate then try, it should work.

Edit: This would be the answer if your ListView were a View, but now I see that it's actually an Activity. ListView is a very misleading name for an activity class!
Use the fully-qualified class name in your XML:

P/S: I've set a breakpoint at DisplayMessageActivity.java onCreate() method but it wasn't being triggered.
You are missing a startActivity statement. Your MainActivity.sendMessage it should be like the follwing:

This why there's no response upon clicking the button.
1) You are not attaching Listener to your button. Do it like :

2) You are creating the Intent object, but not firing it. Use startActivity(intent) as the last line of sendMessage() method to fire the intent and get the desired results.
Shifting between activities isn't working.
What the app does is it opens the android.xml file then after 5 secs open the main file

First, always Capitalise 1st letter of class names (code convention),
and then write your intents like below:

This is because findViewById() searches in the activity_main layout, while the button is located in the fragment's layout fragment_main.
Move that piece of code in the onCreateView() method of the fragment:
eg:

Notice that now you access it through rootView view:

I’m following the android tutorial First App in the link below:

The app can be launched in the emulator but the problem is when I click on the button “send, the application crashed with the message “unfortunately, my fist app has stopped”.
I think I did follow the instructions in the tutorial and can’t figure out where is the problem from.

I believe the problem is
Intent intent = getIntent();
String message = intent.getStringExtra(MainActivity.EXTRA_MESSAGE);
before onCreate(). Intent needs a Context which isn't available until the Activity has been created. Remove those lines since you already have it in onCreate().
Also, when it crashes, post your full logcat because it will tell us, usually, exactly where and what the problem is.
