I am creating a spring mvc application. I am came across maven recently and planning to use it with my current project.
I have downloaded maven and configured it on my machine and using the command line interface.
I created a project with following command:
mvn archetype:generate -DgroupId=com.priyank -DartifactId=SpringWebApp -DarchetypeArtifactId=maven-archetype-webapp -DinteractiveMode=false
After that I updated my pom.xml file with dependencies:
<project xmlns="http://maven.apache.org/POM/4.0.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
xsi:schemaLocation="http://maven.apache.org/POM/4.0.0 http://maven.apache.org/maven-v4_0_0.xsd">

</project>
After updating pom.xml from my command line I executed:
mvn install
which downloaded all dependencies in my local repo.
After that I converted it to my eclipse project using command:
mvn eclipse:eclipse -Dwtpversion=2.0
Now after importing this project SpringWebApp in my workspace I can see libraries included in manner like this:
Usually when I create Spring mvc without maven, I put my libraries under WEB-INF\lib folder.
I am confused here. Seems I have done something wrong. What is the right way to include this libraries in project?
P.S.: This added jre 1.4 as my runtime, but I have changed it to 1.7
I prefer use m2e plugin include in eclipse to make .classpath / .project and .settings of eclipse configuration then eclipse:eclipse goal.
When you configure eclipse project with m2e plugin classpath libraries is done like this:
And all dependencies are deploy in WEB-INF/lib automatically by eclipse and into war by maven-war-plugin.
to force use of specific version of java you need to specify version in configuration of maven-compiler-plugin like this:
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-compiler-plugin</artifactId>
<configuration>
<source>1.7</source>
<target>1.7</target>
</configuration>
</plugin>

I've been working on a dynamic web project in Eclipse. I am getting this error.
"The selection cannot be run on any server".
Earlier it was working fine but now I'm getting this error. I removed the server and added it again.
Project->Right Click-> Properties->Server No server is showing here and two options are there Restore Default and Apply. I am not able to add server here.
Please tell me want is the problem with this.

I know that is a bit late, but maybe helps someone in the future.
Go to Project Facets and make sure you have select the properly java version(in my case should be 1.7 for weblogic 12.1.3) and the version for Dynamic Web Module(in my case should be 3.0, not bigger).
To make sure that your app will run, here in project facets, in Runtimes tab, it will be displayed your server.
This will work for sure ;)
Right-click on project (alt + enter) > properties > project facts.
Make sure that you have selected the checkbox of Dynamic web module (3.0) and select the proper java version (1.8).
Sometimes the server might not be selected in project. Go to properties -> Server
Select the server you want to run this project on.
Simple: Right click on your project> build path> configure build path>project facets> change the version of java.(current version, which is installed in your computer)
I got this error when I:
Right click project in Project Explorer
Select Run As -> Run on Server
Click Finish without selecting a server
I was being lazy and thinking that since there is only one server, it would automatically pick that one, but apparently not. It seems odd that the wizard would let me do that and give such a nonsensical error message.
I was getting the same error mentioned in the heading, that the selection could not be run on any server. This was because when we start our JSP application on the server we have to add our resources.
Right click on the project
Run application on the server
Select available server and click Next
Add resources and click Finish
I import an existing Maven project into Eclipse,and i deployed it into tomcat.When I took a glance at the folder /WEB-INF/lib I have found no JAR files.

For this error, there can be different solutions. I have noted down the ones that had worked for me.
Solution 1. This is always happened in deployment and debugging environment. In deployment environment, just make sure your server classpath has included the Spring jar library (e.g spring-4.0.4.jar).
In debugging environment, the steps may vary from different IDE, but the solution is same. In Eclipse, developers usually will create a tomcat, jboss…whatever application server for debugging, just make sure the correct Spring jars are included.
Double click on your debugging server Click on the “Open launch
configuration” to access the server environment Click on the classpath tab Include the Spring jar file here , it may also
required common log jar due to Spring dependency.
Done, run your
application again.
.
Solution 2. If you are using Maven as a build tool and downloading dependencies using it, there can be some jar conflict. Because Tomcat servers normally provide some jars such as servlet-api and jpa-api. So if you again included them using maven; there will be problems in identifying them.
Solution 3. If you are using Eclipse as your IDE and using Maven as your build tool and tomcat as your server; remember Tomcat server will not look on the jars which are just inside the folders. For that there's a small trick,
Right click on your project and select properties From the displayed window,
select Deployment Assembly
Select Add
Add Maven dependencies
Click Apply and Click OK
Hope one of these solutions would help you to solve your problem. Happy Coding and make sure that is using Java.
In eclipse -> Your Project -> Properties -> Java Build Path -> Order and Export -> check Maven Dependencies.
Or in WebProject -> Your Project -> Properties -> Deployment assambly -> check Maven Dependencies.
This work in my case.
I had the same issue, but I fixed by adding Maven Dependencies. It was missing for some reason, and I have no clue
I have faced a similar issue with the same exception "java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.springframework.web.context.request.RequestContextListener".
It fixed after adding one dummy class in the src/main/java folder, and I really didn't know how this did the trick, it works for me.
I'm trying to move my Spring MVC project to 3.2.4.
When I attempt to run up the application in IntelliJ, using Maven as I had done previously, I am getting errors about not being able to find a series of annotation classes from Spring...
#Bean
#Configuration
#ComponentScan
#PropertySource
are all failing with unable to resolve class error messages.
Other annotations are ok, which makes me think it is a dependency issue, as the Spring version is the main change in my project codebase.
Has Spring 3.2.4 changed where those annotations live in the packaging?
My current pom (some bits removed for brevity):
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

There is a duplicate dependency of org.springframework:spring-context in your POM that is probably causing classpath conflicts. The first one is a compile dependency using version 3.2.4.RELEASE, and the second one is a runtime dependency using version 3.0.0.RELEASE.
I suggest you remove the second since it's unnecessary and should be superseded by the first.
Spring is not verbose about what is going wrong. To debug this, copy annotated class into the .war project and make it work there. A lot of thing may be wired wrong but spring will only say unsatisfied auto-wiring.
It should work out-of-the-box, so something is not done properly. A property not set, a dependency not met etc.
When you copy it in your project you simplify the problem, once it work there, move back the class and it should work fine!
Our project is using the following cxf dependencies:
<dependency>
<groupId>org.apache.cxf</groupId>
<artifactId>cxf-rt-core</artifactId>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>org.apache.cxf</groupId>
<artifactId>cxf-rt-frontend-jaxrs</artifactId>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>org.apache.cxf</groupId>
<artifactId>cxf-bundle</artifactId>
</dependency>
We are using the latest cxf 2.6.1. However, the cxf-bundle lib is dependent on Spring 3.0.7.RELEASE libs, which is conflicting with our Spring 3.1.2.RELEASE libs, which is required to understand our annotation based ORM config classes.
Does anyone have a good solution for resolving this?
To resolve the Spring dependencies to your required version have to set the them explicit in your pom, like this:
<project xmlns="http://maven.apache.org/POM/4.0.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://maven.apache.org/POM/4.0.0 http://maven.apache.org/xsd/maven-4.0.0.xsd">
<modelVersion>4.0.0</modelVersion>
<groupId>lorem</groupId>
<artifactId>ipsum</artifactId>
<version>0.0.1-SNAPSHOT</version>
<dependencies>
<dependency>
<groupId>org.apache.cxf</groupId>
<artifactId>cxf-rt-core</artifactId>
<version>2.6.1</version>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>org.apache.cxf</groupId>
<artifactId>cxf-rt-frontend-jaxrs</artifactId>
<version>2.6.1</version>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>org.apache.cxf</groupId>
<artifactId>cxf-bundle</artifactId>
<version>2.6.1</version>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-aop</artifactId>
<version>3.1.2.RELEASE</version>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-asm</artifactId>
<version>3.1.2.RELEASE</version>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-beans</artifactId>
<version>3.1.2.RELEASE</version>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-context</artifactId>
<version>3.1.2.RELEASE</version>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-core</artifactId>
<version>3.1.2.RELEASE</version>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-expression</artifactId>
<version>3.1.2.RELEASE</version>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-jms</artifactId>
<version>3.1.2.RELEASE</version>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-tx</artifactId>
<version>3.1.2.RELEASE</version>
</dependency>
</dependencies>
</project>
This will resolve to:
...

Why do you depend on cxf-bundle? Are you running in an OSGi environment?
The cxf-bundle imports the packages
org.springframework*;resolution:=optional;version="[2.5,4)"
It should be OK if the latest Spring version is deployed in the container (at least I would try it).
