So I'm new to Tomcat, and I can't figure out why I keep getting 404 errors when I try to access my WAR file on my local Tomcat 7 server. I've looked at several other posts on SO and elsewhere, but couldn't find anything.
Here's my service:
package io.swagger.api;
#Path("/postservice")
#javax.annotation.Generated(value = "io.swagger.codegen.languages.JavaJerseyServerCodegen", date = "2017-04-15T00:29:22.981Z")
public class postserviceApi {
....
}
Here's my Maven pom:

I'm accessing the following url:
localhost:8080/MyAppWs/postservice
I don't see any exceptions in the console.
Can someone help me identify what I need to change to access my service on Tomcat?

I am trying to play around with Eclipse/Java and I am making a Dynamic Web Project in Eclipse. I have followed tutorials online and looked at several other Stackoverflow posts, but i'm still having the same problem.
When I run my server and try to hit my endpoint /test, I get a 404 error. Here is my code:
My Java Class:
package TestPackage;
import javax.ws.rs.Path;
import javax.ws.rs.GET;
#Path("/test")
public class Test {
#GET
public String Hello() {
return "hello";
}
}

I read that if you're using Jersey 2.+, you wouldn't have to fiddle around with your web.xml, so it's the standard format:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<web-app xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns="http://xmlns.jcp.org/xml/ns/javaee" xsi:schemaLocation="http://xmlns.jcp.org/xml/ns/javaee http://xmlns.jcp.org/xml/ns/javaee/web-app_3_1.xsd" version="3.1">
<display-name>RestDemo</display-name>
<welcome-file-list>
<welcome-file>index.html</welcome-file>
<welcome-file>index.htm</welcome-file>
<welcome-file>index.jsp</welcome-file>
<welcome-file>default.html</welcome-file>
<welcome-file>default.htm</welcome-file>
<welcome-file>default.jsp</welcome-file>
</welcome-file-list>
</web-app>
So when I try to call http://localhost:8080/RestDemo/test, I get a 404 error. Any idea what's going on?
In Servlet 2.5 environment, you have to explicitly declare the Jersey container Servlet in your Web application's web.xml deployment descriptor file.
As per https://jersey.java.net/documentation/latest/user-guide.html#deployment.servlet
Example 4.10. Hooking up Jersey as a Servlet
<web-app>
<servlet>
<servlet-name>MyApplication</servlet-name>
<servlet-class>org.glassfish.jersey.servlet.ServletContainer</servlet-class>
<init-param>
...
</init-param>
</servlet>
...
<servlet-mapping>
<servlet-name>MyApplication</servlet-name>
<url-pattern>/myApp/*</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>
...
</web-app>
started with this example: https://www.tutorialspoint.com/jsf/jsf_ajax.htm
eclipse does not like the .xhtml file provided with it, i used this:
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"
xmlns:h="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html"
xmlns:ui="http://java.sun.com/jsf/facelets"
xmlns:f="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core"
xmlns:composite="http://java.sun.com/jsf/composite">
<h:head>
<title>JSF tutorial</title>
</h:head>
<h:body>
<h2>Ajax Example</h2>
<h:form>
<h:inputText id="inputName" value="#{userData.name}"></h:inputText>
<h:commandButton value="Show Message">
<f:ajax execute="inputName" render="outputMessage" />
</h:commandButton>
<h2><h:outputText id="outputMessage"
value="#{userData.welcomeMessage !=null ?
userData.welcomeMessage : ''}"
/></h2>
</h:form>
</h:body>
</html>
apparently the doctype wasnt right.
and of course the UserData from the tutorial. when running the project on tomcat 9 i can see the title and h2 heading, but no button or input field.
why is that?
i actually asked this question on serverfault, but since it was closed there i reposted it here. i hope that is ok.
somebody answered on serverfault and after that i did change my pom.xml to this:
<project xmlns="http://maven.apache.org/POM/4.0.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://maven.apache.org/POM/4.0.0 http://maven.apache.org/xsd/maven-4.0.0.xsd">

<artifactId>jsf-impl</artifactId>
<version>2.2.14</version>

</dependencies>
and did run "maven clean install" on the command line in the project directory.
after downloading a lot of smaller files it said if finished.
yet the webpage does not change, theres nothing on it besides the title and one heading.

so what did i miss to get this simple example running?
i did never find out what was wrong with this, but for readers of this post the ajaxguessnumber example from the java ee tutorials runs without a hitch in netbeans.
Also this tutorial:
http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/tutorials/obe/java/HomeWebsocket/WebsocketHome.html#overview
is great for getting into jsf2 / websockets.
I tried to use jersey moxy to test json, my maven dependency only has 'jersey-media-moxy' with version 2.22.2.

public class JsonService {

#Path("/get")
#Produces(MediaType.APPLICATION_JSON)
public JsonObject getJson() {
JsonObject obj = new JsonObject();
obj.setId(1);
obj.setName("json_test");
return obj;
}
#POST
#Path("/post")
#Consumes(MediaType.APPLICATION_JSON)
public Response createJson(JsonObject obj) {
String result = "json object saved : "+obj;
return Response.status(201).entity(result).build();
}
}
However, when I run this project with Tomcat 8.0 in eclipse, and type
http://localhost:8080/webapp/rest/json/get
following error thrown :

when I am invoking maven build with clean install the target folder is like below
target folder structure
Deployment assembly -->
src/main/java -->WEB-INF/classes
src/main/resources -->WEB-INF/classes
src/main/webapp -->WEB-INF/classes
Now when I run the project from Tomcat (right click -->run as --> run on server) it is showing "resource not available" error
First try a maven - update project, then clean and build your app again.
I do not see deployment descriptor in your project structure. Check in Project Facets, if you have marked Dynamic Web module.
In my pom.xml, I have the following profile :
<profile>
<id>local</id>
<build>
<finalName>webProject</finalName>

I am running tomcat with the following command from my command line:
mvn clean tomcat7:run -Plocal
Everything works great except when I edit and save my java files (using intellij) nothing happens. The app doesn't reload at all. I have tried waiting and refreshing, but nothing has worked.
Any ideas?

Well it was a simple fix. Ill share it if anyone has the same problem. The problem was Intellij was not compiling the java files.
To get this to work, I had to go Build->Compile... (ctrl+Shift+F9).
Or, you can go to File ->Settings->Compiler->make project automatically and Intellij will do it automatically.
