Maven : no main manifest attribute, in target/xx.jar, Unable to execute jar file

I wanted to run maven-assembly-plugin and create a jar file with all dependencies added to it. When I run java -jar jarfile.jar, I get the below error:
no main manifest attribute, in target/jarfile.jar
I went through several Stack Overflow posts for the same and tried all permutations and combinations. I tried adding both assembly and shade plugins. You can see the settings I have in my pom.xml above. I'm not really sure on how this is happening even though I added proper maven settings.
I verified that Java is running fine:
I verified whether I specified the main class correctly.
Everything looks fine for me except the results and I'm confused at the moment.
What might be going wrong? I expect some of them still mark the question as "duplicate", but I have been reading other posts and tried changing the settings accordingly. None of them worked.

This is using maven-jar-plugin and maven-shade-plugin rather than maven-assembly-plugin; Here is a good resource on the differences.

excluding dependency jars and decreasing build time maven

I have created pom.xml to build 2 jars. 1 will download data from hadoop so need Hive dependency jars (Java2Hive.jar ) anther jar Chat.jar doesnot need any of these dependencies. It may need few dependency like apache commons and apache utils. How to exclude and choose dependency jars?
Since It is adding all dependency jars, the size of both jars are 7MB and build time is always 6min. How to improve this performance and reduce the size?

Netbeans runtime configuration in jar

I have a maven project and jni4net is one of the dependency and it's running fine in Netbeans. But when i package it into a jar i get the error java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: no jni4net.n-0.8.8.0 in java.library.path. I solved this problem in Netbenas by setting Working directory and VM Options in Project Properties -> Run. Now is there a way to include these configurations while packaging it as jar, or any other solution.

Maven jar with dependencies?

I want to build the project so that final jar include all the dependencies in a single jar file
(if not possible includes classes from dependencies in to the jar file)
i followed the thread Including dependencies in a jar with Maven but lt included
the dependencies also which i even did not mention in my pom. Here is my POM which has just two dependencies.
I want when when final is built , it includes it specific dependencies mentioned in pom(either in classes or jar form)

When you run mvn package it generates an Jar file target/app-with-dependencies.jar. This Jar file include the compiled classes of the project itself and only the dependencies org.slf4j:slf4j-log4j12 and com.myProject:utils. It does not include the dependencies on which org.slf4j:slf4j-log4j12 depend.

IntelliJ Maven Selenium Build jar

I am using IntelliJ 12, Java 7, Selenium 2.31.0 and Maven. I can run my tests out of the IDE just fine but I am running into a problem trying to create a jar file. I can create the jar file double clicking on mvn clean and then double clicking install. All is well and the jar is created. The problem occurs when I go to run the jar via command line.
java -jar xyz-selenium-test-1.0.jar
Returns: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/openqa/selenium/WebDriver
I have added selenium-server-standalone-2.31.0.jar as a library in the project settings and as a dependency module in the project settings. I must be missing something in my pom file but I just don't know what it is. I have also attached my pom file as well.

You have to add your dependencies to the classpath when you run your program:
java -cp "selenium-java.jar:..." -jar xyz-selenium-test-1.0.jar
Maven also allows you to run a Main class with all the required dependencies in the classpath (see option 1 in the previous link).
Otherwise you can create a Jar with dependencies, which will contain everything you need to run your code:
