I just started working with Uploadify with our Java/JSP Applications and for that I use a servlet instead of the upload.php to do the upload to the server.
I was wondering if there is any servlet example ?? or anyone has additional info for those of us that use JSP instead of PHP?
I follow the example but it doesn't seem to do anything. i changed the script attribute to a JSP file and it doesn't get called.
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function() {
$("#fileUpload1").fileUpload({
'uploader': 'mypath/uploader.swf',
'cancelImg': 'mypath/cancel.png',
'script': 'mypath/upload.php', // a jsp file???
'folder': 'files',
'multi' : false
});
});
</script>
You'd better be using commons file-upload. In the link provided there are details on how exactly to us it in a servlet of yours.

I have designed a product recommendation hub using Java and JavaScript in Eclipse. Basic functionality is, if the person enters the product name, it will retrieve the relevant product reviews from the local XAMPP database, perform sentiment analysis on it and dispalys whether the product is recommended or not based on the number of positive or negative sentiments. My questions:
Is it possible to convert this local JSP UI page into a globally accessible web page without modifying my java code?
If Yes, please guide me. If No, please justify to get a clear understanding.
Is it possible using Amazon AWS?
You could load the page via ajax/jquery.
In the target page, create a div tag that will be your placeholder:
<div id="myPlaceholder"></div>
and add some javascript like:
<script type="text/javascript" src="//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.11.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
$(function() {
$.get("/theurlofthecurrentpage?some=thing", function(data) {
$("#myPlaceholder").html(data);
});
});
</script>
If the JSP control does full postbacks, you may have to update it to handle it clientside. hopefully this helps.
I need to call small part of JSP page(like only div load) when a method is invoked? I know we can load whole JSP page from Servlet. Is this possible or any other solution for this?
know we can load whole JSP page from Servlet. Is this possible
Yes it is possible, you forward your request to jsp from servlet and it will render that jsp, here is an exact same example
1) Set some session or request variable equal to some value, say boolean myVar = true.
2) Redirect from your jsp page from your servlet.
3) In the jsp page, check for particular condition for the variable myVar. If condition is fulfilled, using scriptlets or JSTL display only the relevant part of you jsp.
You can use AJAX(Asynchronous Javascript and XML) for this purpose
For example, Suggestions, that appear without any refresh for auto-complete in google search, are using Ajax. JSP code will contain the Ajax code and will send the information to the servlet in form of XmlHttpRequest object and then takes the response from servlet as xmlhttp.responseText. The result can be written at JSP page by using DOM.
To initiate this process, you need to use the onkeyup in input tag like this:
<input type="text" onkeyup="methodName(this.value)"
Learn more about Ajax
To use AJAX with Java, try this
Ajax for Java Web Applications
$('#myDiv').load('serverPage.jsp #server_div_id');
OR
$.ajax({
url: 'serverPage.jsp',
success: function(data) {
data=$(data).find('div#id');
$('#mydiv').html(data);
}
});
I am using Struts in my application.
I am trying to submit a form using javascript. Hence I did this in html file:
<html:form name="returnForm" action="/returnMedia">
and this in <script> tag:
document.forms["returnForm"].submit();
This is normally what we do while submitting a form using javascript.
But in struts 1.2, I am getting an exception, asking me to set the type for the form also.
Checking the docs, it seems this is not the correct way to submit the form in struts 1.2.
Please let me know how to proceed with this.
Thanks,
how about this
{
document.forms[0].action = "UserAction.do?method=add"
document.forms[0].submit();
}

I am working in a web application using struts. I am performing some operations in struts action class and using session.setAttribute i am setting result value. My struts action class sends result to jsp page where i am displaying result. I have to display message after loading jsp page, hence i am trying to use jquery. But i am not getting how to handle http sesion request in jquery.
Earlier i was taking one property in sturts-config.xml and setting the value instead of sending http session request parameter. But it doesn't work for me, because every time when i refresh my page it takes initial value from struts-config.xml. i am taking struts property as hidden field in jsp page by writing:
<html:hidden property="propname" styleId="id_propname" name="formname" />
for setting property value null I am writing following code in jquery.
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function()
{
alert("some text");
$("#id_propname").val("");
});
</script>
Is there any way where i can directly get the http session request in jquery ? please reply me if you can give some suggestions I thanks to all valuable suggestions in advance.
IMHO there is no simple way to pass your session to the jquery . What you can do is to set the value of some hidden field and declare a global variable on the script and access the value and check for the valid condition if any .
Although its ugly and highly discouraged to use scriptlet inside jsp , this might work :-
<% String sessionVal = session.getAttribute("yourSessionValue").toString() %>
<html type="hidden" id="id_propname" name="propname" value=<%=sessionVal> >
In your jquery :
<script type="text/javascript">
var sessionVal;
$(document).ready(function()
{
sessionVal = $("#id_propname").val();
alert("this is the session value at Script " + sessionVal );
});
</script>
Null check for session is not done.
Or
If you are using tag libraries you can set the session value on form bean and use something like this in jsp :-
<logic:equal name="yourFormBean" property="yourProperty" value="someDefinedValue">
Do your action here
</logic:equal> <br />
Well http Sessions and Requests, in the form of java Objects and related to servlets, live in the server side. JQuery on the other hand will "normally" live in the client side... therefore your problem description is a bit "off".
The parameters you "send" in the httpsession or/and in the httprequest are for the jsp generation where jQuery does not play any part. What then gets sent to the browser is the HTML generated by the jsp engine. This HTML when in the browser can then be used by jQuery.
By the way the framework name is Struts and not Sturts.
Taking in account this information I don't really understand what in fact you want to do.
arrays.jsp:
//...
var x = <c:out value="${x}"/>
<c:if test="${empty doExternal}">
processExternalArrays();
</c:if>
//...
I want to minify/obfuscate JavaScript contained in a large JSP file in which numerous JSP/JSTL variables are mixed into the JavaScript code such as in the snippet above.
The code relies on variables populated using server-side logic and then passed to the client-side code, as above.
I'm already minifying my JS files using YUI compressor but I don't know what to do about the JavaScript code in my JSPs.
Is it possible to minify/obfuscate this code, given that it is dynamically created?
Probably the best solution for you would be use Granule JSP tag.
You can download it at
http://code.google.com/p/granule/
code sample is:
<g:compress>
<script type="text/javascript" src="common.js"/>
<script type="text/javascript" src="closure/goog/base.js"/>
<script>
goog.require('goog.dom');
goog.require('goog.date');
goog.require('goog.ui.DatePicker');
</script>
<script type="text/javascript">
var dp = new goog.ui.DatePicker();
dp.render(document.getElementById('datepicker'));
</script>
</g:compress>
...
Have you taken a look at htmlcompressor? In short it's a:
Java HTML/XML Compressor is a very
small, fast and easy to use library
that minifies given HTML or XML source
by removing extra whitespaces,
comments and other unneeded characters
without breaking the content
structure.
It's main function is so compress HTML and XML, but it also comes with JSP tags that can be used to compress inline JavaScript blocks by leveraging YUI Compressor. Check out the Google Code page, especially the Compressing selective content in JSP pages section.
I don't see other ways than fully delegating the job to pure JS with help of Ajaxical powers in combination with a Servlet which returns the desired information on an Ajax request (in flavor of JSON?).
E.g. in Servlet
Map<String, Object> data = new HashMap<String, Object>();
data.put("doExternal", doExternal);
data.put("x", x);
response.setContentType("application/json");
response.setCharacterEncoding("UTF-8");
response.getWriter().write(new Gson().toJson(data)); // Gson is a Java-JSON converter.
and in JS (with little help of jQuery since it makes the Ajax works less verbose)
$.getJSON('servleturl', function(data) {
var x = data.x;
if (!data.doExternal) {
processExternalArrays();
}
});
This way you end up with clean JS without server-side specific clutter.
Ensure that your output is gzip encoded (apache mod_deflate). Minimizing the html/js first may make it a bit smaller, but not by much.
If you can't, or don't want to, move your JavaScript out of your HTML, one possibility would be to create a tag handler that wraps the content of your <script> tags:
<script type="text/javascript"><js:compress>
...
</js:compress></script>
The handler could probably extend SimpleTagSupport. You'd then have to investigate the Java APIs for compressors/minifiers, like YUI Compressor or dojo ShrinkSafe, and use them to process the tag body.
Edit: Sorry, I skimmed the other answers and it appears that Zack Mulgrew might be referencing a taglib that already does exactly what I'm suggesting...
Edit2: Yup, JavaScriptCompressorTag. Guess I'll have to up-vote his answer ;-)...
