I am writing the code in eclipse. In my project explorer there is an error(red x mark) displayed on my project name. But there are no errors in the other sub folders. Can any one say where can i find those errors.? What is to be done to find the problem. Thanks in advance
The errors from Eclipse are usually avaiable from Error Log View
Window -> Show View -> Erro Log View
Also you can try to clean and rebuild the project.
One possible cause for such thing is build path issues. Go to your project build path and look at the list of included jars: check if you have any jar marked with the same red x. Also, check the eclipse "Problems" tab.
Go to the 'Problems' tab (hit Ctrl-3, then start typing Problems). It will give a description of what's wrong.

I am a computer science student learning Java, so I do some work at home and at college on a mixture of Linux and Windows. I have a problem after copying a new project into the Eclipse workspace. The project shows up, but with a red exclamation mark and an error saying:
The project cannot be built until build path errors are resolved
How can I fix this? I tried the solution described here, but it didn't work.
Identify "project navigator" or "package explorer" view.
Right click on your project, select Build Path --> Configure build Path.
In the emerging window, you will find four tabs, select "Libraries".There, under "Web app libraries" (expand it), you will see the libraries added to the project's classpath. Check if all of them are available. If one or more are not (they'll have "missing" beside their name and a red mark on their icon), check if you need them (perhaps you don't); if you don't need them, remove it, if you need them, exit this window, look out for the missing jar and IMPORT it into your project.
Open the Problems view. You can open this view by clicking on the small + sign at the left hand bottom corner of eclipse. It's a very tiny plus with a rectangle around it. Click on it and select problems.
The problem view will show you the problems that need to be resolved.
If the message says "the project is missing the required libraries...", you need to configure your build path by right clicking on your project, selecting properties, then build path. Add the required jar files using the libraries tab.
-If there are other problems other than missing libraries, you need to post the exact problems here to get a precise solution.
If you can't find the build path error, sometimes menu Project → Clean... works like a charm.
In my case, all libraries in the build path were OK.
To solve it, I deleted all project metadata (.project, .classpath, .settings) and re-imported the project as a Maven project.
Right click your Project > Properties > Java Build Path > Libraries
Remove the file with red "X" (something like JRE...)
Add Library
That's how I solved my problem.
I also had this problem in my system, but after looking inside the project I saw the XML structure of the .classpath file in the project path was incorrect. After amending that file the problem was solved.
If not working in any case...then delete your project from the Eclipse workspace and again import as a Maven project if that is a Maven project. Else import as an existing project.
I tried all the previous given solutions, but they didn't work, but it works for me.
In Eclipse, go to Build Path, click "Add Library", select JRE System Library, click "Next", select option "Workspace default JRE(i)", and click "Finish".
This worked for me.
Go to Project > Properties > Java Compiler > Building
Look under Build Path Problems
Un-check "Abort build when build path error occurs"
It won't solve all your errors but at least it will let you run your program :)
Since last night, Eclipse hasn't been letting me run any of my projects and gives me the error "Your project contains error(s), please fix it before running it".
This happens regardless of which project I use.
There are no code errors in any projects
There are no missing files (R.java, etc.) or folders (src, res, etc.)
There are no errors in the console (even on verbose) or the error log screen
I've cleaned all the projects, and each individual project many times
I've restarted ADB, Eclipse, and my computer
I have no idea what to do next, so hopefully its fixable.
NOTE: I am using Git, and this occurred after switching to my master branch to export a new update to one of my apps.
Thank you in advance! (:
Edit 1: I have also tried deleting and re-importing the projects before I posted this.
Click Window -> Show View -> Problems, that should show what exactly Eclipse thinks is wrong with your project. Sometimes you can simply delete the problem from that view, and Eclipse believes you everything is fine (yep, weird, I know).
Also, after you switch branches using an external source control tool (one not integrated into Eclipse through a plugin), Eclipse sometimes won't pick up all changes, you'd need to manually refresh the whole project file tree.
If nothing else helps, try setting up a new Eclipse workspace and importing your project there.
check your build paths - there could be jars and dependencies that are outside of the app that need to be opened or imported.
another trick is to edit an xml file, just change one word to intentionally cause an error, save the file, then change it back to proper syntax and save again. Error magically disappears.
another trick is to edit a java file, (cause error, save, fix error, magically error free)
I had this problem and I have fixed it. My issue was this:
I somehow managed to require another project in my build. That project had errors in it, which I believe is what caused the issue. I think this happened when I accidentally asked Eclipse to fix my build path or something when I was trying to fix a mistake. To correct this issue go to (on mac):
Right click on your project folder in the Package Explorer
In the menu, go to "Build Path"
Select "Configure Build Path"
Go to the "Projects" tab (along the top).
Is there anything in there? If there is and you weren't expecting there to be, select the project that is in that folder and hit "Remove"
This fixed the issue for me. Hope it helps.
I think you need to clean your project. Do project -> clean. Should work fine after that.
Try using Project->Android Tools->Fix Project Properties besides checking for your Android path. Check if your ANDROID_HOME and ANDROID_SDK are set correctly besides adding tools and platform-tools are set correctly in environment variable PATH.
Hope this helps!
Go to your .android folder and delete your debug certificate.
E:\Users\(your profile)\.android
Inside that folder there is a file name 'debug.keystore'. Delete that, clean and try to build the project again. Sometimes this error is caused when the certificate expires.
I found this answer here and it solved my problem ;-)
I think go to project ->clean some error can be solve this problem
Go to Projects in the menu bar
Then check the menu Build Automatically.
This helped for me.
I am working on a project in Eclipse. Usually, whenever there are compilation errors in a particular file, the file name in the Package Explorer view is shown with a red box and a cross. This helps to find files with compilation errors easily. However, in one particular project, I have some files with compilation problems, but those are not shown with red in the package explorer. Only when I open the files in eclipse, do I see the compilation errors. Also, this behavior is happening only in one project. Other projects are showing compilation errors properly in the package view. Any idea why this is happening ?
Is there an error red cross on the project?
Check the Problems view. (Window -> Show View -> Problems)
It could be that there is a build path error, or another error at the project level.
Often I've found that "cleaning" the project helps show those errors in the package explorer. Go to Project -> Clean... and select the projects you want to recompile.
Also it might even be easier to use the error view to jump directly to the source of your error without the lengthy way using the package explorer.
I'm building an Android app.
I worked today on my app, and suddenly I saw that all the projects in the workspace are marked with an error. I don't know what caused it, and I can't find explanation of the error anywhere.
I'm using Helios with Windows 7. I even tried downloading Eclipse again but it didn't help.
Today I tried to integrate Facebook with my app. Their tutorial required me to try to get a hesh key from a keystore. In the process I added an Environment Variable named JAVA_HOME, and pointed it to the JDK.
I don't know if it's the cause of my problem, but I think it might be related.
I really don't know what to do.
Thanks!
Try this. In eclipse, go to Project --> Clean --> Select "clean all projects". This should rebuild all projects.
Try cleaning your android project. I get problems with Eclipse sometime, and if I clean the project, it fixes it.
Find the "Problems" view. That will give you more details. Post the description of the problems, we can get more information.
click Window -> Show View -> Problems
Typically, the problem is with a resource you've recently added to your project (drawable, assets, raw, etc.)
Some things to check are:
Invalid XML files
Invalid 9-patch images (outer 1-pixel border must be full black or transparent)
Typically, just start by removing a resource, then cleaning your project (Project > Clean). If the errors go away, that resource is your problem. If not, continue this process until the error DOES go away. Start with the most recent resources you've added, naturally.
i solved error or all project showing errors this way.... close eclipse.
then Right Click on eclipse shortcut-->open file location-->open command widows there and type "eclipse.exe -clean" eclipse the starts..and in my case errors were gone...hope it helps
I've created a Java project from existing source with an Ant build script in Eclipse. I cannot run my project because Eclipse tells me that there is at least one error in it.
Now, I know that the project runs fine on the command line, so I suspect an Eclipse configuration error.
As far as I can tell, the only feedback that I have from Eclipse is
a little red X on my project in the Package Explorer window
(source: gregmattes.com)
and dialog window when I try to run the project says there are errors in the project
(source: gregmattes.com)
This is all wonderful, but what is the error?
Is there a "show me the next error" button somewhere?
In the past, on other Eclipse projects, I've notice other little red X's on folders containing source files with errors, the little red X's appear on the source files as well. I scanned (manually) through all of the source files and I haven't found any other red X's (again, where is the "next error" button?).
If I select the "Proceed" button I am greeted with a java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError for my main class, which makes me suspect a classpath issue. I've checked the classpath, and I'm fairly certain that it's correct. Is there a way to see the exact jvm command line that Eclipse is invoking? I realize that it might be invoking the JVM programmatically, and not on a "real" command line. In any case, is there a way, other than the run configuration dialog, to see what is actually happening when I hit the "Proceed" button?
The errors are shown in the Problems view. If it is not opened, go to:
Window > Show View > Problems
Also accessible with the keyboard shortcut Alt+Shift+Q,X
Selecing Window -> Show View -> Problems will open the Problems view, that should have a list of all problems, their location and nature (it can be configured to show only project- or file-local problems, so you may also have to click on the project). Most likely you have a config error in your project, e.g. a reference to a JAR library that cannot be found.
View Errors/Warnings Project based
if you get that kind of an error which shows a red cross on the project folder just refresh that project right clicking on it i was having the same problem as above so try and see...
