You have to use JDK (Java Development Kit), not JRE. You can get OpenJDK at https://adoptopenjdk.net/. OpenJDK 11 or higher is recommended but OptaPlanner 8.x runs on Java 8 as well.
I run the application inside Netbeans and it runs OK, bu I am getting a java.lang.NullPointerException when I run the application out of Netbeans. I create the .nbm to public them in the update server. When user apply the updates and run the application, they get the error. the log file is showed above.

I am unable to run an application, one of the functions of which is to show the serial ports and i can run the application in Netbeans but can't do the same when I try to run it in an exported executable jar, I don't know what's causing the problem, I already have the necessary serial comm files in the right places, I really need help guys..

I am using a JApplet which passes the value through the ObjectOutputStream to connect to the database. If the value is present in the database then the JApplet will be redrawn. When I run my program in NetBeans using Tomcat 7 in browser, it runs perfectly. I have the reports in reports\templates\Contractor_Bill.jrxml and the results in reports\results\. It works fine in Netbeans 6.5, but when i copy the dist folder containing exec jar file to a new place and run the jar it throws this exception.
I also created the report folder in the new place, and it still generates the same exception.
