Applets (or at least untrusted applets) are not allowed to access the local file system. This is kind of a good thing as most people might get upset if random websites had such access.
If you want to access a file go through javax.jnlp (just google it) and it'll provide an API that presents the user with a file chooser to allow applets to read a specific file of their choosing.
If it's just a file that is part of the applet, use either a resource (Class.getResourceAsStream) or through an http connection (URL)

But it was worked well with JDK7. I am not getting what is the problem and how to solve it. And i tried downloading 'jsdg-stubs-jre1.5.jar' which contains sun.swing classes and copying that jar to WEB-INF/lib folder but no use. How to solve it please help me. TIA!
"accessClassInPackage.sun.swing" which signifies that in Webstart it is not allowed to use the package sun.swing.
You need to sign your applet, and with latest jdk 8 security, will block any applet signed with an untrusted certificate authority.So if you self sign this applet put low the security settings.untill it executes.
As an example here.
The thing with java 8 is that we have the security level ranging from high to very high ,while on java 7 it ranged from medium and above.The setting was only intended to block malicious or unsigned apps in java 8.However sometimes it may cause trouble with active X controls.If your app is running using low setting ,good otherwise i suggest java7, unless you dont use enhanced features like lambda expressions and other stuff
Between java7 and java8 there were a bunch of security restrictions added to the way applets are constrained in sandbox mode - especially in communicating over the network.
Check if anything here applies to your case - it may not be applicable, but these need to be checked anyway.
I am facing a strange situation with my java swing application. In my pc(win-7 x64 and jre-7), it is working fine.I am able to run the jar file on my system, but on a windows xp machine with jre7 installed, it gives the following error trace:

If we note the line:
Authentication credentials (https://dev.twitter.com/pages/auth) were missing
or incorrect. Ensure that you have set valid consumer key/secret, access token/
secret, and the system clock is in sync.
Failed to validate oauth signature and token
The authentication is failing due to invalid consumer key/secret. But then why the same app on windows 7 machine, is running perfectly?
Note that in my app, I am using the oob(PIN based) authentication using Twitter4j(v-3.0.5).
Being a java developer myself, I am quiet surprised with this as java is known for its platform independence. So is there anything wrong with the platform independence of java?
This doesn't look like Java VM or Windows OS issue. I would suspect there is something to do with oob implementation or the wrong PIN was entered. I assume the PIN needs to be entered for each machine.
We have a client server application which runs using spring remoting framework and we are using jetty server and Java 1.7. We deliver both client and server to the customers.
At one of customer's office, for one of the user login, he is getting this Exception which is mentioned in the title of the postjava.net.SocketException:Unexpected end of file from the server. He is actually doing the search for something which makes a server call and finally he ends up getting this error in the error log.
The weird thing is, nobody else in the Customer's office gets this error. It is very weird.
And also i googled about this exception but did not get appropriate answer.
Please provide your suggestions.

Exception : java.lang.RuntimeException: java.lang.ExceptionInInitializerError
Judging from the stack trace, it looks as if you are calling javax.imageio.ImageIO.read(File). In Eclipse, it likely works because it is accessing the local filesystem to read the image. Try using Class.getResourceAsStream() to read the file off the classpath (i.e. from the jar) and then pass the InputStream to javax.imageio.ImageIO.read(InputStream).

Is there anything special that needs to be done in order to connect to an SQL database from an applet?
Here is the code that handles the connection:
private void connectDB(){
try{
String driverName = "com.mysql.jdbc.Driver";
Class.forName(driverName);
String url = "jdbc:mysql://localhost/database";
String user = "user";
String pass = "pass";
connection = DriverManager.getConnection(url, user, pass);
System.out.println("Connected");
}catch(Exception ex){
ex.printStackTrace();
}
}
I changed the username, password and database here, but in my code they are correct.
Edit
Since connecting to the SQL server didn't work (I imagine it was hosted on a different host), I have ended up changing the way I access the database. The applet opens a connection to a PHP file on the host, which in turn connects to the database. Either way this is more secure.
This is being caused by the security model for applets. Here's a good article summarizing the two main ways around this issue - either sign the applet or use a policy file. Let us know if you still experience problems after trying one of these:
http://www.coderanch.com/how-to/java/HowCanAnAppletReadFilesOnTheLocalFileSystem
You need to sign your applet. Here is some good documentation on how.
