Capturing and saving a screen shot - java

To save an image from the web in a folder?
I was thinking a behind the scenes screen shot or something. The image I am trying to get is at this link:
http://finance.yahoo.com/charts?s=CLF#chart5:symbol=clf;range=20010429,20040901;charttype=line;crosshair=off;ohlcvalues=0;logscale=on;source=undefined
Yahoo allows you to get just the chart of a specific symbol using something like this: http://chart.finance.yahoo.com/c/3m/d/msft , but i need to be able to specify the range of the chart.
Im looking for this to be done in java.

See this SO question: Convert web page to image
Search around for phrases like "render web page to image" - that should help you more than searching info about 'screenshots'.

how to get a blank canvas on which I can write using stylus

I am creating a service application where in the person who uses the service fills his data and signs it
Now I want to create a blank page where I can take the signature of the client on the TAB itself. So please help to do this. How can I implement it.
I have refereed to this http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Paths-Creating.html link but some how I am not able to work with it.
Please help.Thanks
You can do it using GestureOverlayView. Example in the links: http://www.intertech.com/Blog/android-gestureoverlayview-to-capture-a-quick-signature-or-drawing/
Specifically, create a GestureOverlayView in your layout xml file, then in your Activity class capture the gesture and save it as bitmap image.
Go through the developer API if you want to have specific function for your page, especially for events like Gesturing or Gesture Finish : http://developer.android.com/reference/android/gesture/GestureOverlayView.html
Hope that helps

Fetching correct news image - JAVA

I am trying to make a small news crawler.
I got every thing working after many tries.
Problem is that approx every HTML news page have more then 50 images.
Many of them are too small. So, i am filtering them simply by checking size.
Only images lager them 200x200 will be taken.
But there are many images on a single page which are large.
and some news articles not have any related image.
Lets take a example -
Link to News - http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/Over-9-3-lakh-TB-patients-in-India-undetected-Report/articleshow/24600851.cms
My code got this image - Image no. 0 http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/photo/10905539.cms
Image height - 300
Image width - 450
But this image is useless to image topic.
In simple words "How to get correct image dynamically"
I do not want to make code for each website.
A blank image is better then a wrong image.
I would recommend an approach where you identify the proximity of an image based on its position.. so, if an Image comes inside the article its probably an image about the article itself (except for ads which are very wide).
you can findout the source of the image and decide if it should interest you or not. for instance ad images usually come from a different server which doesn't belong to the site. (in your case indiatimes.com).
Consider the alt text. The alt text usually contains either the title completely or some words from the title.
Also, the article does not have any relevant image associated with the title.
I also suggest JSoup:
jsoup: Java HTML Parser
jsoup is a Java library for working with real-world HTML. It provides
a very convenient API for extracting and manipulating data, using the
best of DOM, CSS, and jquery-like methods.
jsoup implements the WHATWG HTML5 specification, and parses HTML to
the same DOM as modern browsers do.
scrape and parse HTML from a URL, file, or string
find and extract data, using DOM traversal or CSS selectors
manipulate the HTML elements, attributes, and text
clean user-submitted content against a safe white-list, to prevent XSS attacks
output tidy HTML

Getting pixel position of a text in an image

I am working on a research project. The scenario is this.
I am taking the screenshot of my desktop and then I process it using an API to get the position of a certain text on my Desktop.e.g , say I have the browser open on my desktop and I am on stackoverflow. Now I want to search the position of the logo stackoverflow on the screenshot taken. Then I want to simulate a click on it.I am using Java platform.
Now I have 2 questions:
1)Is there any free API(OCR) which I can use to process the screenshot to fetch text position (or can be done by some trick) and gives good results.
Or Any way you can suggest that I can use (instead of taking screenshot and processing it) to get the position of any text on the screen.
2)How can I simulate the click on the screen using the code by a background program running(I mean I have done it in Swing and other language UIs but this time its different as Now I want to click on the screen.
If I understood you right you want to move your mouse and click on the screen. That not that hard you could use the robot class from Java!
For example:
Robot rob = new Robot();
rob.keyPress( KeyEvent.VK_ENTER );
or what ever, there are so much bottons and movements you could with it. A list of all methods you find here.
And your other question I can't answer. I think there is no API that is able to search a text and give you the position. But what I know is that the robot class is able to capture the screen and put it into a BufferedImage. With it you could compare two pictures.
Maybe you could get use of this but I don't know if it is what you search.

android webview zoom at specific area

Is it possible to display a area from a website in webview. without display the whole page.
i have this website http://roosters.gepro-osi.nl/roosters/rooster.php?leerling=116277&type=Leerlingrooster&afdeling=12-13_OVERIG&school=905 .
and i only want to display the table in webview. any help?
Zooming to the right area is a little dirty I think. When the page changes the layout, you'll need to update your app. Also, it might look nice on your screen but ugly on others.
My idea would be to use JavaScript in the context of the loaded page, to manipulate the DOM so only the table is shown (which is a simple <table>). See this question: In Android Webview, am I able to modify a webpage's DOM?
If you can influence the HTML on the page, help yourself and give the desired table an id.

Detect background color of a website

I am trying to detect color of different elements in a webpage(saved on machine). Currently I am trying to write a code in python. The initial approach which I followed is:
find color word in html file in different tags using regular expressions.
try to read the hex value.
But this approach is very stupid. I am new to website design, can you please help me with this.
There can be multiple stylesheets, and many cascading styles. You don't know which elements visually end up being the "background" elements. I think if you're looking for something robust that will work on most webpages, you need to leverage a browsers rendering engine and focus on identifying what a user would see.
Consider using a web browser to render the page, taking a screen shot, and then doing image processing to find the most frequent color near the sides of the page. You can use a scriptable browser like phantomjs.
If you're new to programming, this approach is going to be wayyyyy over your head.
In java you can use JSOUP. Its quite good
Document doc = Jsoup.connect("http://YourPage.html").get();
Elements colors = doc.select("[bgcolor]");
I don't know anything about Java or Python, but could you have it parse the html code and look for something like 'background-color: < color >'?
