This is the problem i face when i try to download glassfish support on eclipse. What is this ? And how can i get rid of this ?
Read timeout when trying to reach the jars required for installation. Do other updates work within eclipse? Is network connection fine outside eclipse? If fine outside eclipse check eclipse network settings. If not fine outside eclipse check OS network settings first.
For Eclipse select from menu: "Window" > "Preferences". Then type filter text "network" or select "General" > "Network Connections". There you can define proxy if needed.

I'm trying to add a new tomcat server in eclipse. However, when I'm defining a new server, the interface seems abnormal(the icons are all red):
what's more, after I click 'Next', there is no page telling me to select Tomcat installation directory.
After I click on finish, there is a problem pop up and I cannot start the server:
Could anyone tell me what's wrong with my eclipse and what should I do? Thank you!
my environment:
eclipseEE: neon.2
os: macOS Sierra
tomcat: apache-tomcat-8.0.41
Close Eclipse ide
Go to {workspace-directory}/.metadata/.plugins/
Delete the following folders:
org.eclipse.wst.server.core.prefs
org.eclipse.jst.server.tomcat.core.prefs
org.eclipse.core.runtime/.settings
Open Eclipse ide and try to configure again
Another option is when you open Eclipse ide and choose other workspace and configure all again.
If the problem persist maybe your eclipse or tomcat files are corrupts, try to download and setup all again.

While open the .jmx file in Jmeter we are facing the above issue in Jmeter. Any can able to find the solution for this error?
we are try to open the jmx in 2.12,2.13,3.0 and 3.1 version but we are facing the above issue. But same jmx we can able to open in different system
Jmeter version 5.4.1 was not loading existing jmx file, it started working after I changed the theme from Dracula to windows.
Anyone facing a error in opening the jmx file
Try this
Open jmeter
Select option
Select look and feel
And select the windows option
Wait till jmeter gets restart
And try to open the jmx file again
Basically you have some missing plugins (i.e libraries).
So please double check that you have the same libraries on the different systems
you can check the libraries by going on to the folder
apache-jmeter-3.1\apache-jmeter-3.1\lib
Replace the missing libraries by copy paste then restart jmeter
It is due to missing plugin in the JMeter version. The JMX file contains references to a plugin called Flexible File Writer.
So, download it and keep in /lib/ext folder and restart JMeter. Import the script, it will work. If error occurs, it might depends on some other plugins, so identify them and add it to JMeter as mentioned above.
Note: You can use Plugin Manager for easy management of plugins.
If on mac:
Options -> Look and Feel
Select Nimbus
Click 'Yes' to restart
Try saving or opening a file
enter image description here
Drag and drop your file and it will work
I currently have a sprimgmvc app that uses maven. I am currently using mvn:package to build war and deploy it to tomcat to develop and this is getting very cumbersome. I dont have the eclipse configured to automatically build and deploy to tomcat for that matter?
Can anyone please provide me steps that I need to take so that if I make any changes in my project I can just hit save and run and it will deploy to the tomcat OR a way in which I dont use tomcat but use maybe jetty or something else to build and test my app?
Thank you
download STS > Import your project as maven project to the new workspace > mvn install (only once to download all your dependencies) > run AS > Server > baam!
For any other eclipse version pretty much the same but you need to open the server window and configure tomcat , basically open the server tab > new > select your tomcat installation path and then .. just run it on the server. You can even modify code while running your app.
I was able to make this work using some helpers from: Running Tomcat from within Eclipse always gives me 404 (but index.html works) and following these steps:
I suspected that there was something wrong with the initial set up in eclipse. So, I closed the project in eclipse using: Right Click project > Close Project
Then I deleted any files related with eclipse from the folder. These were: .settings, .project, .classpath
I then Re-imported the project as maven project.
I used Window > Show view > server view
In the server view I created a new server and pointed it to XAMPP > tomcat since I already had tomcat.
Right click on the project > Run As > Run on Server.
It should run properly at that point in the browser as well
Make sure to check Right Click Project > Properties > Deployment Assembly - There should be Maven Dependencies added to the project and the deploy path for that should be "WEB-INF/lib"
here is a my way to debug and run maven web project with eclipse. though code is not hot deployed but it works fine for me.
Steps are as follows
open command prompt and go to your project directory. Lets say it is /opt/myhome/myproj
run mvnDebug tomcat:run command, make sure you have mvn and mvnDebug at system path
A message will be appeared like one mentioned in screenshot attached below, this states that maven is waiting for remote connection.
Now we need to Remotely connect to maven from IDE. To do that
Right click on the project and select "DebugAs" ---> "Debug configuration"
Add an new entry under Remote Java application with highlighted details and then select Debug button.
switch back to your terminal and you will get a screen like one displayed below
your web app is ready to debug, put a break point and call it and your IDE will switch to debug perspective
We are done with it. now if you make some changes in your code. you need to stop it from terminal with Ctrl-C and re-execute mvnDebug tomcat:run and then Remote Debug from IDE.
As i mentioned in starting code is not hot deployable as in local debug mode but it is pretty much better approach than rebuilding war and deploy it to external tomcat instance.
I hope this targets your query
I've been up for hours now, searching online for a solution. I can happily say, this has really pissed me off.
Upon opening 'Install New Software' I get "'Contacting Software Sites' has encountered a problem.
Some sites could now be found. See the error log for more detail."
Here's the error log:

Any ideas?
I want to install MercurialEclipse but it cannot find the repository, same for the defaults.
I had the same problem. And found solution on russia site.
In file eclipse.ini under line -vmargs add this line:
-Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true
This will resolve problem.
Site with explanation
I have encountered the same problem. I have resolved disabling the site using:
Window → Preferences → Install/Update → Available software Site
Here the site that can be used have a tick (enabled). You must find the site that caused the problems and disabled them.
I hope this could be useful.
I encountered the same problem and solved it by disabling the McAffee Host Intrusion Detection program during the installation.
I noticed an additional symptom that I wasn't able to browse the Internet using the Eclipse Internal Web Browser feature using below Eclipse Menu navigational steps:
Window → Show View → Other → General → Internal Web Browser.
I have had the same problem in the past when installing new software in Eclipse.
In my case it has always been a problem with my Eclipse Proxy settings.
Eclipse > Preferences > General > Network Connections
Make sure you have your proxy settings configured correctly. If you are on a college or office network you can get the Proxy details of the administrator. In my case I had to configure the HTTP, HTTPS and the SOCKS.
The SOCKS requires that you input your username and password.
NOTE: If your network username or password changes you will have to update this.
In my case I had to change the "Active Provider" drop down from 'Direct' to 'Manual'
This solved all my problems
More info at http://help.eclipse.org/helios/index.jsp?topic=%2Forg.eclipse.platform.doc.user%2Freference%2Fref-net-preferences.htm
I had the same issue, to resolve it, I preformed the following steps:
Made sure the internal browser was able to connect to the internet.
Window/preferences
install/update
available Software sites
click on each row that is checked, one at a time and at the bottom right side of the window it will tell you if the resource is available or not. If that resource is not available then uncheck it. I then added the following resource site and this was able to fix the error.
Name:Composite Marketplace Repository
Location:http://marketplace.eclipse.org/repo
HOPE THIS HELPS...
This is a shot in the dark and might not help but, have you tried the following:
Can you connect to internet at all through Eclipse?
Open the internal webbrowser. In Eclipse: Window -> show view -> Other -> General: Internal web browser.
Look up any normal adress, is it working?
Can you connect to another update site? Try for example Eclipse Emma:
http://update.eclemma.org/ Do you see anything there?
What are your proxy preferences? Go to Window -> preferences ->
General: Network connections.
The active provider:
Specifies the settings profile to be used when opening connections. Choosing the Direct provider causes all the connections to be opened
without the use of a proxy server. Selecting Manual causes settings
defined in Eclipse to be used. On some platforms there is also a
Native provider available, selecting this one causes settings that
were discovered in the OS to be used.
If internet is working fine outside of Eclipse, try changing to
Native. After that, try Direct.
I have encountered problems where an update site would not load, then
I had to remove it and add it again. This forces Eclipse to reread the
contents of the site even if it has a cached copy. So, if you still
get no connection to the indigo update site, but everything else is
working, try that. Go to Window -> Preferences -> Install/update:
Available Software sites. Then remove and add the indigo site. Just
remember to copy the adress so you can add it again.
This is a copy and paste from this post.
If the embedded browser works but updates will not work you might just be using a 32 bit Java on a 64 bit eclipse. Download the 32-bit version and see if that helps. Worked for me.
I also encountered the same problem and nothing here worked. What I found the problem to be was an issue with the versions of openjdk and oracle-java...as a result I installed all versions from 6-8...I'm not sure which one fixed the issue but after installing all of them the problem was resolved. Hope this helps
I was having the same problem and I checked my proxy setting for all the browsers which was installed ......... One of the browser(IE 8 for my case ) was using the proxy setting to execute the testing sites of the company ...........
I unchecked that one ......... restarted my eclipse and now its working fine ..........
My solution was:
Window → Preferences → Install/Update → Available software Site
edit the problematic sites-> remove the 's' from 'https' on the site lines!
using Luna.

As suggested in a comment below by #lostiniceland, this is a simpler way to achieve the above:
Goto Preferences -> Install Update -> Available Software Sites => select the entry and click the "Reload" button to the right. This is sometimes also helpful when you have a local updatesite for testing custom plugins
My Eclipse Installation:
SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 11.
Eclipse Neon 64-bit
Oracle JDK jdk1.8.0_51 64-bit
I worked out and followed many of the suggestions in the web and nothing helped.
Except that one:
In eclipse Go to "Window -> preferences -> General: Network connections" and set the "Aktiv Source" to "Native"
Exit eclipse
In the shell prompt, type
"export http_proxy=http://proxy-rzf:8080" (your own proxy server and port)
invoke eclipse
DONE!!!
If you then go to the eclipse "Network connections" settings you will see something like the image:
I hope i could help somebody with that. It cost me a lot of hours searching and trying.
Ahoy!
I was wondering if there's a way to configure eclipse not to open the browser (internal or external, doesn't matter) when the user selects Run As > Run or server in a specific (or any) web project.
Couldn't find that option...
On Eclipse Juno through Oxygen, change the preferences (Window->Preferences->General->Web Browser) to add a new external web browser and set it's location as "/bin/true" (under UNIX), "/usr/bin/true" (under Mac OS Yosemite through Mojave), or "C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe" with parameter "/c" (under Windows). Then set this as the default browser.
After this, whenever you "Run on server", Eclipse will spawn this command (which immediately succeeds) instead of touching your browser.
This isn't a per-project setting though.
No there is not. The way to do this is not click on the apllication and run as, but to click on your server and launch it(and deploy your application). Then you will get rid of browser opening.
If you run the server from the server view it won't open the browser.
I was wondering the same question
Instead of clicking the run button
try press Relaunch
(I'm on STS)
You should try this:
In MyEclipse, change the preferences (Window->Preferences->General->Web Browser) check radio button (use external web browser) and click on new to add a new external web browser and set it's location of your browser and enter name (as your choice), then click on ok.
Just fixed this issue for me. You should do the following:
Create a file null.bat that contains something like "#echo off". It doesn't really matter where you put it.
Go to Eclipse=>Preferences=>General=>Web Browser, check "Use external web browser". Create a new external Web broswer.
Name it something and
point the Location to where you stored your null.bat
That way Eclipse runs your null.bat and does nothing :)
In latest version of Eclipse 2022-03 or later
Simply Click on Window--->Web Browser--->Internal Web Browser.
You can select other browser too as per your wish.
