Autocomplete functionality for contacts module - java

I have an application which has a contacts module and I am using JAVA for the same.I have to implement the "Auto complete" functionality for the same. I.e., as i start typing the alphabets, search results start appearing and will eventually narrow down to the matching letter after entering the same.
Please help me with some reference JAVA code, API's and some cool stuffs to go as an add-on.

If you are looking for some example see this
http://viralpatel.net/blogs/2009/06/tutorial-create-autocomplete-feature-with-java-jsp-jquery.html
This one is basic example to make a auto complete.
And if you want some jazzy look and field then you can use jquery plug in client side
http://jqueryui.com/demos/autocomplete/
http://www.devbridge.com/projects/autocomplete/jquery/
http://www.ajaxdaddy.com/demo-jquery-autocomplete.html
I think this will help you.

I think you need to use Ajax for the same . Check out irctc.co.in , they use Ajax for station completion , quite effortlessly

Trasparent intro overlay to introduce user the app

I was wondering to create something like a setup wizard for when the user first starts my app. This is needed due to the complexity of the app to help the user. Searching for something like this I found a library that isn't a setup wizard, but lets you point an element on the screen and give some info about it.
The library is this link. (Showcase View Library by Espin)
I'm able to show one indication using this, but I can't concatenate more than one indication, you know, the first is shown, you pulse next and goes to the nex indication, this way until you arrive to the end and pulse finish.
Looking for any tutorial or step-by-step guide that could help me doing this, I found one, but it was done with old code, and the newest version of the library has some changes that doesn't fit the example. I've tried modifiying the code of this example to match with the new version of the library, but I don't get to view the indication one by one, I just get all them overlapped.
This is the link to the library's ShowcaseView class where all this logic is defined: ShowcaseView.java
And this is how the doc says to implement it ot your app:
new ShowcaseView.Builder(this)
.setTarget(new ActionViewTarget(this, ActionViewTarget.Type.HOME))
.setContentTitle("ShowcaseView")
.setContentText("This is highlighting the Home button")
.hideOnTouchOutside()
.build();
Has someone worked with this library and knows how could I concatenate few indications?
What's missing in v5
ShowcaseViews: the class which queues up ShowcaseViews in a
tutorial-type method. I never really liked this class (generally, you
should use SCV sparingly); I'll add it back in based on the Builder
class when I can.
So either:
implement it by yourself and submit a pull request.
Or wait for the next release.
Or use v4
Or submit an issue on github to directly ask the author when this will be released.

Want to create a form filler - is java, jsp, html enough?

Summary - Want to make a simple website form filler. The website is NOT mine and I cannot edit its source code. Don't know what tools/languages are needed. Would java, jsp, html be enough ?
Request - Please reconsider your decision to close or downvote. I only need to know if java is enough or not.
There is a form on a website, say for reserving a visit to only one dentist. You fill your details and the date and time you want to visit. Then, it tells you if an appointment can be made or not, somewhere in the webpage.
This web page is NOT protected by CAPTCHA. I don't want to enter my details all the time to look for a reservation. I want to make code to do it for me.
I want to make code which will -
1 - Fill the details into the form and "press" submit.
2 - Then, read the resulting page and find out if a reservation is
available or not. If yes, do something like maybe - pop up a GUI
message, send e-mail or whatever.
3 - Repeat the above steps every 5 hours or so.
What are the languages and tools I would need to do this job ? Would I need more than java, jsp and html (thats all i know now) to make such code ?
Thanks.
I will suggest you try CURL. That will make you solution more simple in my opinion.
You can execute HTTP GET/POST with CURL, which is enough to solve your problem. Give it a try, and if you get block you can ask a more specific question about CURL or HTTP.
Hope it helps.
IMO, If you really just want to fill up some forms to check a reservation, no need to code anything, why not just install a plugin, Selenium, record your actions there and just run it at specified times: http://docs.seleniumhq.org/
Sure.
You need a web server and a database on the back end.
Since you feel comfortable with Java, JSP/HTML would probably be an ideal solution.
IMHO...

How to use Java to sent and read a third party javascript variables

I have two javascript files:
http://www.dublinbikes.ie/design/marseille/javascript/gmaps_common.js
http://www.dublinbikes.ie/design/marseille/javascript/gmaps_search_station.js
Which for http://www.dublinbikes.ie/All-Stations/Station-map# website
What I want to do is to simulate the search a station status action that on the left hand side by set variable 'value' a station number and pass it to gmaps_common.js for execute, then read the result from gmaps_search_station.js that executed variable called html from LeftBlock(id) function.
Because I need run whole process automatically several times, so please suggest me could I use Java to do this and how.
Thank you very much for the help.
You should never try to emulate a JavaScript interpreter just to get js variables out of it - just do the same thing the script would do in your language. Java is mighty enough.
The script just gets a list of stations from http://www.dublinbikes.ie/service/carto, and then queries details from http://www.dublinbikes.ie/service/stationdetails/dublin/{number} (example). Java has lots of HTTP and XML libraries, it will be no problem for you to do that, too.

Component for select friends to invite add my app

I'm trying to build component to select friends and send an invitation from my application to them. The following image displays the component provided by Facebook (in this example is another kind of invitation, but the component is the same).
http://facebook-developer.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/invite-form-output.jpg
I tried to use the site instructions: http://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/fbml/request-form/
But the content is confusing. I need to implement this component in Java and in the case of the site there is a call to the getFacebookUtils () without explanation of what library it belongs in addition to a more concrete explanation.
Need help using this component provided by facebook in Java.
Thank you.
Thats under the Legacy API and you should not use it for something that is new. Also, to be clear, you cannot send invites, you can only prompt the user to send "invites". What you should use is the Request Dialog (2.0/Frictionless), which is the replacement for "invites". You implement it using javascript on the front end, assuming you are using a web interface.

How to retrieve query parameter in Wicket

I am using wicket application to initiate my Java method in my code. I have the url as follows
http://localhost:8080/web/resources/org.apache.wicket.Application/StartMethod
I want to add an extra option at the end client=cutomser1
http://localhost:8080/web/resources/org.apache.wicket.Application/StartMethod?client=customer1
As I want these use the same code but for different customers
So when I run this URL from command promte it should fetch the Customer1 into my Java code
in this way..
String client = customer1
How can I implement this in Java. I mean I want to fetch this String name customer1
Wicket is strong in data binding and you should take advantage of that.
If you display in the browser data from Customer1, the Wicket knows that when you do requests from that page.
The translation of request parameters to variables happens behind the scene.
That is disconcerting at first but really powerful when used as intended.
I would suggest you select a good tutorial from the answer to this question and go through a couple of examples to see how things are done. This may take an afternoon but this will pay back for itself before the week is out.
I think I am a bit too late, but still I will say that you can use PageParameters in your page and you should make the page bookmarkable.
