I created web App Test Project using the following Maven command:
mvn archetype:generate -DgroupId=com.vanilla.cache -DartifactId=TestProject -DarchetypeArtifactId=maven-archetype-webapp -DinteractiveMode=false
After it I converted this project to Eclipse
mvn eclipse:eclipse -Dwtpversion=2.0
After it I created new Servet named com.vanilla.test.TestServlet in eclipse and when I'm running it using Tomcat 7.0. I'm getting the following error.
SEVERE: Allocate exception for servlet Test

Please help. What am I missing?
I solved the problem.
Project - > Properties -> Java Build Path -> Source .
I added /src and restarted tomcat.

When I am run my application after entering the URL, this exception is coming.I am using Eclipse and Tomcat7.0.35. I also added Jstl.jar and jstl1.2.jar

The error is telling you it cannot find the class because it is not available in your application.
If you are using Maven, make sure you have the dependency for jstl artifact:
<dependency>
<groupId>javax.servlet</groupId>
<artifactId>jstl</artifactId>
<version>1.2</version>
</dependency>
If you are not using it, just make sure you include the JAR in your classpath. See this answer for download links.
Download the following jars and add it to your WEB-INF/lib directory:
jsp-api-2.0.jar
jstl-1.2.jar
By default, Tomcat container doesn’t contain any jstl library. To fix it, declares jstl.jar in your Maven pom.xml file if you are working in Maven project or add it to your application's classpath
<dependency>
<groupId>javax.servlet</groupId>
<artifactId>jstl</artifactId>
<version>1.2</version>
</dependency>
Probably the jstl libraries are missing from your classpath/not accessible by tomcat.
You need to add at least the following jar files in your WEB-INF/lib directory:
jsf-impl.jar
jsf-api.jar
jstl.jar
Add jstl jar to your application classpath.
Just a quick comment: sometimes Maven does not copy the jstl-.jar to the WEB-INF folder even if the pom.xml has the entry for it.
I had to manually copy the JSTL jar to /WEB-INF/lib on the file system. That resolved the problem. The issue may be related to Maven war packaging plugin.
Add JSTL library as dependency to your project (javax.servlet.jsp.jstl.core.Config is a part of this package).
For example, if you were using Gradle, you could write in a build.gradle:
dependencies {
compile 'javax.servlet:jstl:1.2'
}
I had the same problem. Go to Project Properties -> Deployment Assemplbly and add jstl jar
I get a java.lang.VerifyError: Cannot inherit from final class exception when executing HttpSolrClient solr = new HttpSolrClient("http://localhost:8983/solr/mycore");
I use SolrJ 5.5.0 with Java 1.7. Other than that I use commons-httpclient 3.1. This is the detailed error I get:

There were 2 httpcore libs(httpcore 4.0 from axis2 1.6.2 and httpcore 4.4.1 from solrj 5.5.0) in my .m2 folder. Removing httpcore 4.0 helped me to fix the problem. The reason is org.apache.http.params.BasicHttpParams class in httpcore 4.0 is a final class.
I'm working on an assignment that requires some .jar files. The assignment requires me to do some work on a Tomcat servlet with JSP files.
I included my .jars in the Java Build Path in Eclipse, and copied/added them to the WEB-INF/lib directory.
When I run the project like so: http://localhost:8080/project/ I see the index.jsp page with empty divs where data should be from the code executed via the TestServlet.java.
Looking for the reason why, I see the following error when I check out http://localhost:8080/project/TestServlet:

Which is weird, since, again, I included the .jars in the Java Build Path and copied/added the .jars to the WEB-INF/lib directory.
Any ideas or help?
just to be sure, first you put the jar in the web-inf/lib and after you add it in t
project > build path > configure build path > add jar , in that order , correct?
try in the "libraries" tab moving the jar at the top or almost the top... would be a problem of visibility
You must try to add the jar in your classpath, project > build path > configure build path > add jar (or external jar)
Even i had the same problem.This is how I solved it:
You can add the external jar to the tomcat folder->lib-> add your external jar in your system ,after adding remove that folder from your project and add again or you can remove the tomcat folder and copy all the jars from tomcat folder->lib and you can add it as your external jars to your project
Consider the following code:
m_Writer = new PrintWriter(new FileWriter("LoginHistory.dat"));
m_Writer.println(Integer.toString(s_NumOfLogins));
m_Writer.println(m_LoginHistoryStr);
m_Writer.close();
Any ideas why I don't find any file called LoginHistory.dat?
Thanks
Update: I've just found that I get an exception after line:
m_Writer = new PrintWriter(new FileWriter("LoginHistory.dat"));
and its details are:
Any ideas what is the real problem?

It seems plain that you don't have permission to create that file where you're trying to create it, hence the "Access denied" message. You'd need to find a directory where you're allowed to create files. If you're not sure where a file is going to be created, you can see its full path with File.getAbsolutePath() or File.getCanonicalPath().
I'm trying to convert this portlet https://github.com/tlipski/newsletter-for-liferay which was made to compile with maven, to a Liferay Project (then I can work with it in the Liferay IDE). Everything seems to work fine but I don't know where should I put the hibernate.cfg.xml file in the Liferay Project to make it work. At the moment I have it in the WEB-INF/classes folder and I'm getting this error:

Try putting the hibernate.cfg.xml file in the root of your src/ folder. Then edit the liferay-plugin-package.properties file and go to the portal dependency jars. Add the hibernate3.jar to your project. Then it should work on deployment.
