Receiving SMS in Android Manifest.xml - java

I try to receive an sms in my app and I think the problem is in my AndroidManifest.xml file
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<manifest xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
package="com.amin_amini.smstestmobi"
android:versionCode="1"
android:versionName="1.0.0">
<uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="8" android:targetSdkVersion="15" />
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.RECEIVE_SMS"/>
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.SEND_SMS"/>
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.READ_SMS"/>
<application android:icon="#drawable/ic_launcher" android:label="#string/app_name">
<activity android:name=".SMS"
android:label="#string/app_name">
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" />
<category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" />
</intent-filter>
</activity>
<receiver android:name=".SmsReceiver"
android:enabled="true"
android:exported="true"
android:permission="android.permission.BROADCAST_SMS">
<intent-filter android:priority="1000">
<action android:name="android.provider.Telephony.SMS_RECEIVED"/>
</intent-filter>
</receiver>
</application>
</manifest>
My SmsReceive.java is like this
package com.amin_amini.smstestmobi;
import android.content.BroadcastReceiver;
import android.content.Context;
import android.content.Intent;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.telephony.SmsMessage;
import android.widget.Toast;
public class SmsReceiver extends BroadcastReceiver
{
#Override
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent)
{
//---get the SMS message passed in---
Bundle bundle = intent.getExtras();
SmsMessage[] msgs = null;
String str = "";
if (bundle != null)
{
//---retrieve the SMS message received---
Object[] pdus = (Object[]) bundle.get("pdus");
msgs = new SmsMessage[pdus.length];
for (int i=0; i<msgs.length; i++)
{
msgs[i] = SmsMessage.createFromPdu((byte[])pdus[i]);
str += "SMS from " + msgs[i].getOriginatingAddress();
str += " :";
str += msgs[i].getMessageBody().toString();
str += "\n";
}
//---display the new SMS message---
Toast.makeText(context, str, Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
}
Toast.makeText(context, "Hey", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
}
}
I'm sure my problem is in manifest.xml because the
Toast.makeText(context, "Hey", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
don't show anything.
what should I do ?
edit:
As our friends said bellow I used
Log.i("Hey","Hey" );
in my function but nothing will be shown in LogCat
So I'm defenetly sure that my problem is in me AndroidManifest.xml
note: I'm using android 4.0.3 on HTC Sensation

Change Your receiver code to that, it will help you, if still its not working then may be you have installed another SMS apps which will have higher priority and will abord the broadcast services.
<receiver android:name=".SmsReceiver">
<intent-filter android:priority="1000">
<action android:name="android.intent.action.PHONE_STATE" />
<action android:name="PACKAGE_NAME.android.action.broadcast"/>
<action android:name="android.provider.Telephony.SMS_RECEIVED"></action>
</intent-filter>
</receiver>

Yes your code is working fine here.
this is my androidmanifest
<receiver android:name=".SmsReceiver" >
<intent-filter >
<action android:name="android.provider.Telephony.SMS_RECEIVED" />
</intent-filter>
</receiver>
and i have added these permission
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.SEND_SMS" />
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.READ_SMS" />
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.RECEIVE_SMS" />
or download this code.. i have made this . it recieve sms and shows in dialog box.

android.intent.action.BOOT_COMPLETED on Jellybean

I am stuggling to get my intent started on boot, basically the service is not appearing in my running or cached processes. I know since 3.1 you must have an activity that has run for the service to work, so this is what I have
MainActivity
import android.app.Activity;
import android.content.Context;
import android.content.Intent;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.widget.Toast;
public class StartActivity extends Activity {
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState)
{
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
Context context = getApplicationContext();
CharSequence text = "Updater Started";
int duration = Toast.LENGTH_SHORT;
Toast toast = Toast.makeText(context, text, duration);
toast.show();
startService(new Intent(this,UpdaterService.class));
finish();
}
}
My intent
import android.content.BroadcastReceiver;
import android.content.Context;
import android.content.Intent;
import android.widget.Toast;
public class StartIntent extends BroadcastReceiver {
#Override
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
Intent myIntent = new Intent(context, UpdaterService.class);
context.startService(myIntent);
CharSequence text = "Updater Started";
int duration = Toast.LENGTH_SHORT;
Toast toast = Toast.makeText(context, text, duration);
toast.show();
}
}
and finally my appmanifest
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<manifest xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
package="com.package.removed"
android:versionCode="1"
android:versionName="1.0" >
<uses-sdk
android:minSdkVersion="10"
android:targetSdkVersion="19" />
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE"/>

<intent-filter>
<action android:name="android.intent.action.BOOT_COMPLETED"/>
</intent-filter>
</application>
</manifest>
Basically my toast is never displayed, does anyone know what I have missed?
Your intent-filter is outside of the receiver. It should be like this:
<receiver android:enabled="true" android:name=".StartIntent" android:exported="false" >
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="android.intent.action.BOOT_COMPLETED"/>
</intent-filter>
</receiver>

Google cloud messaging receiver intent does not start (broadcast intent callback: result=CANCELLED forIntent)

I am trying to make a GCM client, registration is fine. I am also successfully sending messages from server. However, the client does not start the intent. It says
09-30 08:39:59.795: W/GTalkService(4667): [DataMsgMgr] broadcast intent callback: result=CANCELLED forIntent { act=com.google.android.c2dm.intent.RECEIVE cat=[dol.framework] (has extras) }
My Intent
public class GCMService extends IntentService{
public GCMService(String name) {
super("GCMService");
}
protected void onHandleIntent(Intent intent) {
Bundle extras = intent.getExtras();
String messageType = gcm.getMessageType(intent);
android.util.Log.i("hi","test");
if (!extras.isEmpty()) {
if (GoogleCloudMessaging.MESSAGE_TYPE_MESSAGE.equals(messageType)) {
Logger.logInUI(tag, "Received: " + extras.toString());
}
}
GCMReceiver.completeWakefulIntent(intent);
}
}
And my receiver
public class GCMReceiver extends WakefulBroadcastReceiver {
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
ComponentName comp = new ComponentName(context.getPackageName(),
GCMService.class.getName());
startWakefulService(context, (intent.setComponent(comp)));
Logger.log("hi","eetett");
setResultCode(Activity.RESULT_OK);
}
}
And finally my manifest
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<manifest xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
package="dol.framework"
android:versionCode="1"
android:versionName="1.0" >

<permission android:name="dol.framework.gcm.permission.C2D_MESSAGE"
android:protectionLevel="signature" />
<uses-permission android:name="dol.framework.gcm.permission.C2D_MESSAGE" />

<category android:name="dol.framework" />
</intent-filter>
</receiver>
<service android:name="dol.framework.GCMService"/>
</application>
</manifest>
Sorry for the wall of text. Both GCMService and GCMReceiver is at top of my package (dol.framework). What am I doing wrong? Other than those, I am not doing much. Only registering the device and then I am sending a message to this device. Log prints the message at top but does nothing. Shouldn't I start service or something? I didn't see anything related on examples.
In the permission you defined and used for GCM you have dol.framework.gcm.permission. It should be dol.framework.permission, since your app's package is dol.framework.
Try changing the receiver bit of your manifest to this:
<receiver
android:name=".GCMReciever"
android:exported="true"
android:permission="com.google.android.c2dm.permission.SEND" >
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="com.google.android.c2dm.intent.RECEIVE" />
<action android:name="com.google.android.c2dm.intent.REGISTRATION" />
<action android:name="dol.framework" />
</intent-filter>
</receiver>

broadcast intent cancelled. Android GCM

I've been struggling with this error for a lot and I just gave up. Every time I try to send a message using GCM this error appears on LogCat. What I'm failing to do? I've followed Android examples to set up GCM Notifications.
This is the LogCat Error
Edit: The message actually gets through but I don't think this error is normal.

Log.d("ID",registrationID);
String error=intent.getStringExtra("error");

}
else if(action.equals("com.google.android.c2dm.intent.RECEIVE"))

Toast.makeText(context, data1, Toast.LENGTH_LONG);
}
} catch (Exception e) {
Log.d("Error", "error en C2DM"+e.toString());

}
Fixed, you just need to add setResultCode(Activity.RESULT_OK); at the end of the onReceive(); method

Android : sms receiver is not working

I am writing an sms receiver android code but it is not working.
It compiles will but when I get an sms it did not displayed as supposed to be when using Toast.
This is my code:
package com.example.homecontrolingbysms;
import android.content.BroadcastReceiver;
import android.content.Context;
import android.content.Intent;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.telephony.SmsMessage;
import android.widget.Toast;
public class SmsReceiver extends BroadcastReceiver{
#Override
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent)
{
//---get the SMS message passed in---
Bundle bundle = intent.getExtras();
SmsMessage[] msgs = null;
String messageReceived = "";
if (bundle != null)
{
//---retrieve the SMS message received---
Object[] pdus = (Object[]) bundle.get("pdus");
msgs = new SmsMessage[pdus.length];
for (int i=0; i<msgs.length; i++){
msgs[i] = SmsMessage.createFromPdu((byte[])pdus[i]);
messageReceived +="From "+ msgs[i].getOriginatingAddress();
messageReceived+=" : ";
messageReceived += msgs[i].getMessageBody().toString();
messageReceived += "\n";
}
//---display the new SMS message---
Toast.makeText(context, messageReceived, Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
}
}
}
I also posted manifest to make sure all important parts of code are available
manifest.xml:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<manifest xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
package="com.example.homecontrolingbysms"
android:versionCode="1"
android:versionName="1.0" >
<uses-sdk
android:minSdkVersion="8"
android:targetSdkVersion="17" />
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.SEND_SMS"/>
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.RECEIVE_SMS"/>
<application
android:allowBackup="true"
android:icon="#drawable/ic_launcher"

Register smsreceiver by adding below code in menifest file
<receiver android:name="com.shreymalhotra.smsreceiver.SmsReceiver">
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="android.provider.Telephony.SMS_RECEIVED" />
</intent-filter>
</receiver>
This links may help you.
Receiving SMS on Android App
http://shreymalhotra.me/blog/tutorial/receive-sms-using-android-broadcastreceiver-inside-an-activity/
Please check it.
if you want to receive some broadcasts , blew things must be done.
1. In the manifest.xml ,you must declare your receiver with the intent filter
exp:
2. if the broadcast that you want to receive is ordered, you must make sure your priority.
android:priority="1000"
I think your manifest looks okay; the problem is with the line:
Mistake is in this part I think can you change this
Bundle bundle = intent.getExtras();
SmsMessage[] msgs = null;
String messageReceived = "";
if (bundle != null)
to something like this
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
Log.i(TAG, "Intent recieved: " + intent.getAction());
intent.getAction().equals(ACTION) {
Bundle bundle = intent.getExtras();
if (bundle != null) {
Object[] pdus = (Object[])bundle.get("pdus");
(you need to do an object comparison on the action string, or just do no comparison), in your manifest file you have misspelled SMS_RECEIVED.
