I want to create a custom adapter for my list view. Is there any article that can walk me through how to create one and also explain how it works?
public class ListAdapter extends ArrayAdapter<Item> {
private int resourceLayout;
private Context mContext;
public ListAdapter(Context context, int resource, List<Item> items) {
super(context, resource, items);
this.resourceLayout = resource;
this.mContext = context;
}
#Override
public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) {
View v = convertView;
if (v == null) {
LayoutInflater vi;
vi = LayoutInflater.from(mContext);
v = vi.inflate(resourceLayout, null);
}
Item p = getItem(position);
if (p != null) {
TextView tt1 = (TextView) v.findViewById(R.id.id);
TextView tt2 = (TextView) v.findViewById(R.id.categoryId);
TextView tt3 = (TextView) v.findViewById(R.id.description);
if (tt1 != null) {
tt1.setText(p.getId());
}
if (tt2 != null) {
tt2.setText(p.getCategory().getId());
}
if (tt3 != null) {
tt3.setText(p.getDescription());
}
}
return v;
}
}
This is a class I had used for my project. You need to have a collection of your items which you want to display, in my case it's <Item>. You need to override View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) method.
R.layout.itemlistrow defines the row of the ListView.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<TableLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:orientation="vertical"
android:layout_width="fill_parent">
<TableRow android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:id="#+id/TableRow01"
android:layout_height="wrap_content">
<TextView android:textColor="#FFFFFF"
android:id="#+id/id"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="id" android:textStyle="bold"
android:gravity="left"
android:layout_weight="1"
android:typeface="monospace"
android:height="40sp" />
</TableRow>
<TableRow android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_width="fill_parent">
<TextView android:textColor="#FFFFFF"
android:id="#+id/categoryId"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="categoryId"
android:layout_weight="1"
android:height="20sp" />
<TextView android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_weight="1"
android:textColor="#FFFFFF"
android:gravity="right"
android:id="#+id/description"
android:text="description"
android:height="20sp" />
</TableRow>
</TableLayout>
In the MainActivity define ListViewlike this,
ListView yourListView = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.itemListView);
// get data from the table by the ListAdapter
ListAdapter customAdapter = new ListAdapter(this, R.layout.itemlistrow, List<yourItem>);
yourListView .setAdapter(customAdapter);
I know this has already been answered... but I wanted to give a more complete example.
In my example, the ListActivity that will display our custom ListView is called OptionsActivity, because in my project this Activity is going to display the different options my user can set to control my app. There are two list item types, one list item type just has a TextView and the second list item type just has a Button. You can put any widgets you like inside each list item type, but I kept this example simple.
The getItemView() method checks to see which list items should be type 1 or type 2. According to my static ints I defined up top, the first 5 list items will be list item type 1, and the last 5 list items will be list item type 2. So if you compile and run this, you will have a ListView that has five items that just contain a Button, and then five items that just contain a TextView.
Below is the Activity code, the activity xml file, and an xml file for each list item type.
OptionsActivity.java:
public class OptionsActivity extends ListActivity {
private static final int LIST_ITEM_TYPE_1 = 0;
private static final int LIST_ITEM_TYPE_2 = 1;
private static final int LIST_ITEM_TYPE_COUNT = 2;
private static final int LIST_ITEM_COUNT = 10;
// The first five list items will be list item type 1
// and the last five will be list item type 2
private static final int LIST_ITEM_TYPE_1_COUNT = 5;
private MyCustomAdapter mAdapter;
#Override
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
mAdapter = new MyCustomAdapter();
for (int i = 0; i < LIST_ITEM_COUNT; i++) {
if (i < LIST_ITEM_TYPE_1_COUNT)
mAdapter.addItem("item type 1");
else
mAdapter.addItem("item type 2");
}
setListAdapter(mAdapter);
}
private class MyCustomAdapter extends BaseAdapter {
private ArrayList<String> mData = new ArrayList<String>();
private LayoutInflater mInflater;
public MyCustomAdapter() {
mInflater = (LayoutInflater)getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE);
}
public void addItem(final String item) {
mData.add(item);
notifyDataSetChanged();
}
#Override
public int getItemViewType(int position) {
if(position < LIST_ITEM_TYPE_1_COUNT)
return LIST_ITEM_TYPE_1;
else
return LIST_ITEM_TYPE_2;
}
#Override
public int getViewTypeCount() {
return LIST_ITEM_TYPE_COUNT;
}
#Override
public int getCount() {
return mData.size();
}
#Override
public String getItem(int position) {
return mData.get(position);
}

case LIST_ITEM_TYPE_1:
convertView = mInflater.inflate(R.layout.list_item_type1, null);
holder.textView = (TextView)convertView.findViewById(R.id.list_item_type1_text_view);
break;
case LIST_ITEM_TYPE_2:
convertView = mInflater.inflate(R.layout.list_item_type2, null);
holder.textView = (TextView)convertView.findViewById(R.id.list_item_type2_button);
break;
}
convertView.setTag(holder);
} else {
holder = (ViewHolder)convertView.getTag();
}
holder.textView.setText(mData.get(position));
return convertView;
}
}

Google has an example called EfficientAdapter, which in my opinion is the best simple example of how to implement custom adapters. http://developer.android.com/resources/samples/ApiDemos/src/com/example/android/apis/view/List14.html
#CommonsWare has written a good explanation of the patterns used in the above example
http://commonsware.com/Android/excerpt.pdf
check this link, in very simple via the convertView, we can get the layout of a row which will be displayed in listview (which is the parentView).
View v = convertView;
if (v == null) {
LayoutInflater vi;
vi = LayoutInflater.from(getContext());
v = vi.inflate(R.layout.itemlistrow, null);
}
using the position, you can get the objects of the List<Item>.
Item p = items.get(position);
after that we'll have to set the desired details of the object to the identified form widgets.
if (p != null) {
TextView tt = (TextView) v.findViewById(R.id.id);
TextView tt1 = (TextView) v.findViewById(R.id.categoryId);
TextView tt3 = (TextView) v.findViewById(R.id.description);
if (tt != null) {
tt.setText(p.getId());
}
if (tt1 != null) {
tt1.setText(p.getCategory().getId());
}
if (tt3 != null) {
tt3.setText(p.getDescription());
}
}
then it will return the constructed view which will be attached to the parentView (which is a ListView/GridView).

You can take a look at this sample in the official ApiDemos. It shows how to extend BaseAdapter and apply it to a ListView. After that, just look at the reference for BaseAdapter and try to understand what each method does (including the inherited ones) and when/how to use it.
Also, Google is your friend :).
Here is the complete walk through to create a custom adapter for list view step by step -
https://www.caveofprogramming.com/guest-posts/custom-listview-with-imageview-and-textview-in-android.html
public class CustomAdapter extends BaseAdapter{
String [] result;
Context context;
int [] imageId;
private static LayoutInflater inflater=null;
public CustomAdapter(MainActivity mainActivity, String[] prgmNameList, int[] prgmImages) {
// TODO Auto-generated constructor stub
result=prgmNameList;
context=mainActivity;
imageId=prgmImages;
inflater = ( LayoutInflater )context.
getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE);
}
#Override
public int getCount() {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
return result.length;
}
#Override
public Object getItem(int position) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
return position;
}
#Override
public long getItemId(int position) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
return position;
}
public class Holder
{
TextView tv;
ImageView img;
}
#Override
public View getView(final int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
Holder holder=new Holder();
View rowView;
rowView = inflater.inflate(R.layout.program_list, null);
holder.tv=(TextView) rowView.findViewById(R.id.textView1);
holder.img=(ImageView) rowView.findViewById(R.id.imageView1);
holder.tv.setText(result[position]);
holder.img.setImageResource(imageId[position]);
rowView.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
Toast.makeText(context, "You Clicked "+result[position], Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
}
});
return rowView;
}
}
A more compact example of a custom adapter (using list array as my data):
class MyAdapter extends ArrayAdapter<Object> {
public ArrayAdapter(Context context, List<MyObject> objectList) {
super(context, R.layout.my_list_item, R.id.textViewTitle, objectList.toArray());
}
#Override
public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) {
View row = super.getView(position, convertView, parent);
TextView title = (TextView) row.findViewById(R.id.textViewTitle);
ImageView icon = (ImageView) row.findViewById(R.id.imageViewAccessory);
MyObject obj = (MyObject) getItem(position);
icon.setImageBitmap( ... );
title.setText(obj.name);
return row;
}
}
And this is how to use it:
List<MyObject> objectList = ...
MyAdapter adapter = new MyAdapter(this.getActivity(), objectList);
listView.setAdapter(adapter);
BaseAdapter is best custom adapter for listview.
Class MyAdapter extends BaseAdapter{}
and it has many functions such as getCount(), getView() etc.
It is very simple.
import android.content.Context;
import android.content.DialogInterface;
import android.support.annotation.NonNull;
import android.support.annotation.Nullable;
import android.support.v7.app.AlertDialog;
import android.view.LayoutInflater;
import android.view.View;
import android.view.ViewGroup;
import android.widget.ArrayAdapter;
import android.widget.Button;
import android.widget.ImageView;
import android.widget.TextView;
import java.util.List;

I need help to make listview adapter. Below is code please make the adapter both value name with roomid.
JSONArray rooms = jsonObject.getJSONArray("rooms");
for (int i = 0; i < rooms.length(); i++) {
JSONObject room = rooms.getJSONObject(i);
String name = room.optString("room");
String roomid = room.optString("roomid");
final RoomModel sched = new RoomModel();
sched.setName(name);
sched.setroomId(roomid);
CustomListViewValuesArr.add(sched);}
listView = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.ChatlistView);
RoomModel.java
public class RoomModel {
private String name, id, roomid;
public String getName() {
return name;
}
public void setName(String name) {
this.name = name;
}
public String getId() {
return id;
}
public void setId(String id) {
this.id = id;
}
public String getroomId() {
return roomid;
}
public void setroomId(String roomid) {
this.roomid = roomid;
}
}
try the following Adapter......
public class MyAdapter extends BaseAdapter {
Context con;
ArrayList<your type> mlist;
RoomModel sched;
public MyAdapter(Context con,ArrayList<your type> mlist )
{
this.con=con;
this.mlist=mlist;
}
#Override
public int getCount() {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
return mlist.length;
}
#Override
public Object getItem(int position) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
return mlist[position];
}
#Override
public long getItemId(int position) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
return position;
}
#Override
public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
sched=mlist.get(position);
LayoutInflater inflater=(LayoutInflater)con.getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE);
convertView=inflater.inflate(R.layout.your_layout,parent,false);
TextView tv1=(TextView)convertView.findViewById(R.id.your_textview);
tv1.setText(sched.getId());
TextView tv2=(TextView)convertView.findViewById(R.id.your_textview);
tv2.setText(sched.getName());
TextView tv3=(TextView)convertView.findViewById(R.id.your_textview);
tv3.setText(sched.getroomId());
return convertView;
}
}
and change the following code.
JSONArray rooms = jsonObject.getJSONArray("rooms");
for (int i = 0; i < rooms.length(); i++) {
JSONObject room = rooms.getJSONObject(i);
String name = room.optString("room");
String roomid = room.optString("roomid");
final RoomModel sched = new RoomModel();
sched.setName(name);
sched.setroomId(roomid);
CustomListViewValuesArr.add(sched);}
listView = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.ChatlistView);
MyAdapter adapter=new MyAdapter(this,CustomListViewValuesArr);
listView.setAdapter(adapter);
OK as requested by Sandeep, I will give you simple hint but I can't give you full codes that you can directly copy and paste. Just follow instructions
Create an XML file for single item of the list which may have certain elements as you need, for example It's single_item.xml which has 3 TextView
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical">
<TextView
android:id="#+id/tvId"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_gravity="center_horizontal"
android:text="Sample Id"
android:textColor="#0414f4"
android:textAppearance="?android:attr/textAppearanceLarge"
android:textSize="10sp" />
<TextView
android:id="#+id/tvTitle"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_gravity="center_horizontal"
android:layout_marginTop="10dp"
android:text="Sample Title"
android:textColor="#000"
android:textAppearance="?android:attr/textAppearanceLarge"
android:textSize="20dp"
android:textStyle="bold" />
<TextView
android:id="#+id/tvBody"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="Sample body"
android:textSize="16sp"/>
</LinearLayout>
and after getting the reference of listView from main layout set the adapter like this, And here modelList is an ArrayList.
mAdapter = new CustomAdapter(MainActivity.this, R.layout.single_item, modelList);
mAdapter.notifyDataSetChanged();
mListView.setAdapter(mAdapter);
Then the class CustomAdapter looks like this
public class CustomAdapter extends ArrayAdapter<Model> {
ArrayList<Model> modelList;
Context context;
public CustomAdapter(Context context, int resource, ArrayList<Model> objects) {
super(context, resource, objects);
this.modelList = objects;
this.context = context;
}
#Override
public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) {
// Check if an existing view is being reused, otherwise inflate the view
if (convertView == null) {
convertView = LayoutInflater.from(context).inflate(R.layout.single_item,parent,false);
}
// Lookup view for data population
TextView tvId = (TextView) convertView.findViewById(R.id.tvId);
TextView tvTitle = (TextView) convertView.findViewById(R.id.tvTitle);
TextView tvBody = (TextView) convertView.findViewById(R.id.tvBody);
// Populate the data into the template view using the data object
tvId.setText(String.valueOf(model.getId()));
tvTitle.setText(model.getroomId());
tvBody.setText(model.getName());
// Return the completed view to render on screen
return convertView;
}
}
NOTE : I have commented and made it simple as possible to help you. Hope this may help. You can comment if any problem raised.
I have a ListView in my MainActivity which has a customAdapter to it. I am implementing a slider on each of the list items. I have also attached a footerView to my listView. Now my problem is that, the setOnClickListener is not fired, and I am not able to print the position's of the listView. It only print's for the footerView alone, which I have attached.
The code for MainActivity is
public class MainActivity extends Activity {
private static final String TAG = "MainActivity";
private Context mContext;
private ListView mainListView;
private TextView addContact;
private EditText inputName;
private List<String> contactList = new ArrayList<String>();
private MainListAdapter mainAdapter;
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
requestWindowFeature(Window.FEATURE_NO_TITLE);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
mContext = this;
init();
}
private void init() {
mainListView = (ListView)findViewById(R.id.lv_main);
initListData();
View footerView = getLayoutInflater().inflate(R.layout.listview_item_main, null);
footerView.setBackgroundColor(getResources().getColor(R.color.gold));
addContact = (TextView)footerView.findViewById(R.id.tv_item_name);
addContact.setText(getString(R.string.plus));
mainListView.addFooterView(footerView);
mainAdapter = new MainListAdapter(mContext, contactList);
mainListView.setAdapter(mainAdapter);
mainListView.setOnItemClickListener(new OnItemClickListener() {
#Override
public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> parent, View view, int position, long id) {
Log.e(TAG, "on click item " + position);
if (position == contactList.size()) {
addContact.setVisibility(View.GONE);
inputName.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE);
}
}
});
inputName = (EditText)footerView.findViewById(R.id.et_input_name);
inputName.setOnEditorActionListener(new OnEditorActionListener() {
#Override
public boolean onEditorAction(TextView v, int actionId, KeyEvent event) {
if (actionId == EditorInfo.IME_ACTION_DONE || actionId == EditorInfo.IME_ACTION_GO) {
InputMethodManager imm = (InputMethodManager)mContext
.getSystemService(Context.INPUT_METHOD_SERVICE);
if (imm.isActive()) {
imm.hideSoftInputFromWindow(v.getApplicationWindowToken(), 0);
}
String strInput = inputName.getText().toString();
contactList.add(strInput);
addContact.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE);
inputName.getText().clear();
inputName.setVisibility(View.GONE);
}
return false;
}
});
}
private void initListData() {
// temp data
contactList.add("Jacob");
contactList.add("Nicolas");
contactList.add("David");
contactList.add("Jacob");

Please help me to listen to the onItemClickListener in the MainActivity's list. I am not able to figure out where I went wrong. Thanks in advance.
you have to put your "setOnItemClickListener" to your Adapter class insted of MainActivity.
public View getView(final int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) {
// Declare Variables
ViewHolder holder;
View iView = convertView;
if (convertView == null) {
iView = inflater.inflate(R.layout.listview_item, parent, false);
holder = new ViewHolder();
holder.txt_name = (TextView) iView.findViewById(R.id.name);
Typeface custom_fontG = Typeface.createFromAsset(
context.getAssets(), "KozGoPr6N-Regular.otf");
holder.txt_name.setTypeface(custom_fontG);
holder.txt_desc = (TextView) iView.findViewById(R.id.detail);
holder.ivProfile = (ImageView) iView.findViewById(R.id.flag);
iView.setTag(holder);
} else {
holder = (ViewHolder) iView.getTag();
}
// Get the position
resultp = data.get(position);
// Locate the TextViews in listview_item.xml
// Capture position and set results to the TextViews
holder.txt_name.setText(resultp.get(OurTeam.TAG_NAME));
holder.txt_desc.setText(resultp.get(OurTeam.TAG_DETAIL));
imageLoader.displayImage(TAG_IMAGEURL + resultp.get((OurTeam.TAG_IMG)),
holder.ivProfile, options);
// Capture ListView item click
iView.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View arg0) {
// Get the position
// your code
}
});
return iView;
}
At a time you can handle click event either in Adapter class of in Activity. in your case you are doing both.
And to manage
addContact.setVisibility(View.GONE);
inputName.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE);
Write above on click event of what ever is main view in listview_item layout (Do not forget to pass addContact and inputName views to your CustomAdapter).
public class MainActivity extends Activity {

add this below line in your listview_item parent layout only.
android:descendantFocusability="blocksDescendants"
actually when the list item contains a element which can get focus then list item click listener not work.
Add this to the parent of your Listview and parent of your listview_item and try again:
android:descendantFocusability="blocksDescendants"
Like this:
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:descendantFocusability="blocksDescendants"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:background="#color/background"
tools:context="${packageName}.${activityClass}" >
<ListView
android:id="#+id/lv_main"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:cacheColorHint="#android:color/transparent"
android:listSelector="#android:color/transparent" />
and this:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:descendantFocusability="blocksDescendants"
android:minHeight="100dp" >
<com.example.yo.view.MyViewPager
android:id="#+id/vp_list_item"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="100dp" />
</RelativeLayout>
If this does not work, call isFocusable() on your EditText and TextView
addContact.isFocusable(false);
inputName.isFocusable(false);
I am guessing you made a common error. Please check/try both changes.
1) add android:descendantFocusability="blocksDescendants" into the ListView UI ("#+id/lv_main").
Note: If this and 2nd suggestion does not work, then the Listview layout may need rework.
2) mainListView.setItemsCanFocus(false);
Note: The Listview may be confused with focusing on an item in the UI.
I think the suggested code by "Nirmal Shethwala" looks good. It has the if/else block for if (convertView == null).
EDIT: I noticed you inflated 3 xml layout files in getView(). You can only have one, and that is listview_item in your code. I know this is not well documented. I have tried this in the past. The reason is getView() method has to return only one view, and your code return convertView; like me.
Sorry I know this will take some modifications in your layout.
I read along the code here (weblink). And the code has been modified a little bit to become like this:
FileArrayAdapter.java
public class FileArrayAdapter extends ArrayAdapter<Item> {
private Context c;
private int id;
private List<Item> items;
public FileArrayAdapter(Context context, int textViewResourceId,
List<Item> objects) {
super(context, textViewResourceId, objects);
c = context;
id = textViewResourceId;
items = objects;
}
public Item getItem(int i) {
return items.get(i);
}
#Override
public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) {
View v = convertView;
if (v == null) {
LayoutInflater vi = (LayoutInflater) c
.getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE);
v = vi.inflate(id, null);
}
/* create a new view of my layout and inflate it in the row */
// convertView = ( RelativeLayout ) inflater.inflate( resource, null );
final Item o = items.get(position);
if (o != null) {
TextView t1 = (TextView) v.findViewById(R.id.TextView01);
setDefaultTextColor(t1);
TextView t2 = (TextView) v.findViewById(R.id.TextView02);
setDefaultTextColor(t2);
TextView t3 = (TextView) v.findViewById(R.id.TextViewDate);
setDefaultTextColor(t3);
/* Take the ImageView from layout and set the city's image */
ImageView imageCity = (ImageView) v.findViewById(R.id.fd_Icon1);
String uri = "drawable/" + o.getImage();
int imageResource = c.getResources().getIdentifier(uri, null,
c.getPackageName());
Drawable image = c.getResources().getDrawable(imageResource);
imageCity.setImageDrawable(image);
if (t1 != null)
t1.setText(o.getName());
if (t2 != null)
t2.setText(o.getData());
if (t3 != null)
t3.setText(o.getDate());
}
return v;
}
private void setDefaultTextColor(TextView tx) {
tx.setTextColor(Color.parseColor("#f8f9fe"));
}
}
And also another object I made so far:
Item.java
public class Item implements Comparable<Item>{
private String name;
private String data;
private String date;
private String path;
private String image;
public Item(String n,String d, String dt, String p, String img)
{
name = n;
data = d;
date = dt;
path = p;
image = img;
}
public String getName()
{
return name;
}
public String getData()
{
return data;
}
public String getDate()
{
return date;
}
public String getPath()
{
return path;
}
public String getImage() {
return image;
}
public int compareTo(Item o) {
if(this.name != null)
return this.name.toLowerCase().compareTo(o.getName().toLowerCase());
else
throw new IllegalArgumentException();
} }
WIth the list layout a bit customized below:
listupload_row.xml
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:orientation="vertical" >
<ImageView
android:contentDescription="#string/file_sharing_file_folder"
android:id="#+id/fd_Icon1"
android:layout_width="50dip"
android:layout_height="50dip" >
</ImageView>
<TextView
android:id="#+id/TextView01"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_marginLeft="5dip"
android:layout_marginTop="5dip"
android:layout_toRightOf="#+id/fd_Icon1"
android:singleLine="true"
android:text="#+id/TextView01"
android:textStyle="bold" >
</TextView>
<TextView
android:id="#+id/TextView02"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_below="#+id/TextView01"
android:layout_marginLeft="10dip"
android:layout_toRightOf="#+id/fd_Icon1"
android:text="#+id/TextView02" >
</TextView>
<TextView
android:id="#+id/TextViewDate"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_alignParentRight="true"
android:layout_below="#+id/TextView01"
android:layout_marginLeft="5dip"
android:text="#+id/TextViewDate" >
</TextView>
</RelativeLayout>
My question is:
I know If I want to put Checkbox then I should put it under the XML (layout).
But my case is, I want to make the longClick available for showing the Checkboxes.
And how to do that?
If I simply add this code below, of course it will set the ListView to have onLongClick event....
dList.setLongClickable(true);
dList.setOnItemLongClickListener(new OnItemLongClickListener() {
public boolean onItemLongClick(AdapterView<?> arg0, View arg1,
int pos, long id) {
// show the checkbox of each lines
return true;
}
});
But to make it once onLongClick executed, how do I show the Combobox? and vice versa....
One possible solution is to hide/show the checkbox based on a flag that is toggled when an item receives a long click.
Do something like this in your adapter's getView method:
#Override
public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) {
...
if(showCheckBoxes) {
v.findViewById(R.id.checkbox).setVisible(View.VISIBLE);
} else {
v.findViewById(R.id.checkbox).setVisible(View.GONE);
}
...
}
and then in your long click listener:
dList.setOnItemLongClickListener(new OnItemLongClickListener() {
public boolean onItemLongClick(AdapterView<?> arg0, View arg1, int pos, long id) {
showCheckBoxes = !showCheckBoxes;
fileArrayAdapter.notifyDataSetChanged();
return true;
}
});
Its simple add checkbox in xml and make visibility gone
android:visibility="gone"
And declare a radiobox in FileArrayAdapter class as you did with textbox and the put your
onItemLongClickListener();
In that check if checkbox is visible then make it disappear or if not visible the make it visible.
if(cb.isVisible()){
cb.setVisibility(View.GONE);
}else{
cb.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE);
}
Thats's it.

How to use ArrayAdapter<myClass>

Closed 9 years ago.
I want to fields of arrayList to listView but how can I write adapter I dont know. Please help me!!!
I need a my adapter class . I have to see on listView tutar:1.34 kalem="xx"
Class:
public class Income {
String kalem;
int tutar;
public int getTutar() {
return tutar;
}
public void setTutar(int tutar) {
this.tutar = tutar;
}
int id;
public int getId() {
return id;
}
public void setId(int id) {
this.id = id;
}
public String getKalem() {
return kalem;
}
public void setKalem(String kalem) {
this.kalem = kalem;
}
}
ArrayList:
sqliteHelper helper = new sqliteHelper(getApplicationContext());
ArrayList<Income> liste=helper.getAllIncome();
There are two ways you can build the adapter:--
Use some adapter provided by Android system like:-
SimpleCursorAdapter
ArrayAdapter,etc
example:--
ListView listView = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.<list_view_id>);
ArrayList<Income> income_array_list = <get the arraylist from whatever sources>;
ArrayAdapter<Income> arrayAdapter = new ArrayAdapter<Income>(
this,
android.R.layout.simple_list_item_1,
income_array_list );
listView.setAdapter(arrayAdapter);
Create your own custom adapter.
I just used only two field just to show you how to build custom adapter,Rest you can build by looking this code.
Example:-
IncomeListAdapter class
private class IncomeListAdapter extends BaseAdapter {
ArrayList<Income> mDisplayedValues;
LayoutInflater inflater;
public IncomeListAdapter(Context context) {
// TODO Auto-generated constructor stub
mDisplayedValues = <your_Income_list>;
inflater = (LayoutInflater) context
.getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE);
}
#Override
public int getCount() {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
return mDisplayedValues.size();
}
#Override
public Object getItem(int arg0) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
return null;
}
#Override
public long getItemId(int position) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
return 0;
}
#Override
public View getView(final int position, View convertView,
ViewGroup parent) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
View v = convertView;
ViewHolder holder;
if (v == null) {
v = inflater.inflate(R.layout.listrow_income, null);
holder = new ViewHolder();
holder.tvTutar = (TextView) v
.findViewById(R.id.tvTutar);
holder.tvId = (TextView) v.findViewById(R.id.tvId);
v.setTag(holder);
} else
holder = (ViewHolder) v.getTag();
holder.tvTutar.setText(mDisplayedValues.get(position).getTutar());
holder.tvId.setText(mDisplayedValues.get(position).getId());
return v;
}
class ViewHolder {
TextView tvTutar;
TextView tvId;
}
}
listrow_income.xml:--
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="?android:attr/listPreferredItemHeight"
android:gravity="center"
android:orientation="horizontal"
android:padding="8dp" >
<TextView
android:id="#+id/tvTutar"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:textColor="#323232" />
<TextView
android:id="#+id/tvId"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:textColor="#android:color/white" />
</LinearLayout>
Try this
private ListView lv;
public void onCreate(Bundle saveInstanceState) {
setContentView(R.layout.your_layout);
lv = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.your_list_view_id);
// Instanciating an array list (you don't need to do this,
// you already have yours).
sqliteHelper helper = new sqliteHelper(getApplicationContext());
ArrayList<Income> your_array_list = helper.getAllIncome();
// This is the array adapter, it takes the context of the activity as a
// first parameter, the type of list view as a second parameter and your
// array as a third parameter.
ArrayAdapter<Income> arrayAdapter = new ArrayAdapter<Income>(
this,
android.R.layout.simple_list_item_1,
your_array_list );
lv.setAdapter(arrayAdapter);
}
