To start Android Development I installed..
JDK 7
Downloaded and installed Eclipse in E:/ Drive on Windows 7
Then following the steps, installed Android ADT using Eclipse.
Everything fine till now but on trying to set preference its not accepting any folder.
On looking other suggestions online i founded that there is some setup a C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk but no such folder in my case.
Is my android-sdk in E:/ Drive instead of C:/
I just got a folder (after ADT installation) :
E:\Software\JAVA Tools\eclipse-mobile-juno-SR2-win32-x86_64\eclipse\plugins\com.android.ide.eclipse.adt.package_21.1.0.v201302060044-569685
i can't find any 'tools' folder even (as eclipse preference requires)
Don't know what to do. Please suggest me something
Hello please follow the simple steps to install eclipse and Android SDK there is an ADT-bundle so it consists of all like
1) Eclipse where u no need to install
2) Android SDK ,
3) ADT Plugins
So u simply Click on eclipse it will load automatically all like Android SDK and ADT plugins. So please follow the link to download the adt-bundle.
Note : Before that please install JDK .
My friend, who will install ANDROID SDK? It neither comes with JDK or Eclipse. Please go through these for proper setup link1, link2

I downloaded the package and unzipped it. When I click SDK application, black screen blinks for a fraction of second but sdk interface doesn't open. When I open it through eclipse, an error says "An outline is not available"?
There are 3 components in the package, namely Eclipse folder, SDK folder and SDK manager application.
The SDK application does not show the android icon. So I think there's some problem with the application.
Check out these snapshots :

I have the latest version of JDK installed. It's X64 for 64bit OS.
Did you try window-->sdk manager? if it didn't work either try copying the sdk application and paste it in the sdk folder and try again
https://developer.android.com/sdk/index.ht
Get Eclipse as well as SDK from this link it contain both
After Installing JDK just open Eclipse from Eclipse folder it will automatically take SDK location.
I recommend you to download Eclipse ADT version 22.6.3, you can download it from:
http://dl.google.com/android/ADT-22.6.3.zip
Also,if you can't launch the SDK there are two ways, go to SDK - tools - android.bat, it will launch the SDK :)
I'm trying to get an Android project running in IntelliJ by following the JetBrain instructions here but run into an error message when trying to Select the Project Template (step #2). The error is
"Cannot Create SDK
You need to configure a Java SDK first".
I'm doing this on a mac and followed the first page of instructions before the ones linked above. In particular:
I ran the command tools/android update sdk --no-ui from the terminal after downloading only the Android SDK content. I mention this because it says to "run the SDK Manager", but I see nothing of the sort in what I've unpacked. Running the aforementioned command downloaded and installed many Android API versions and revisions.
The JDK I downloaded was jdk-7u17. I installed it; is that all I need to do?
The error for "configure a Java SDK first" comes up when I press the "New..." button in step 2. Does anyone know how I can configure my Java SDK? Is there something I missed or that is missing from the JetBrain instructions?
EDIT: Apparently, a file browser comes up after clicking OK. This confuses me further, as it accepts setting my JDK location but what I want is to view an Android project. My Android SDK is in the folder named "android-sdk-macosx", but that's not bringing up the Android options when it's selected. How do I get to the Android templates?
Have you downloaded some of the Android SDK's? Try running tools/android sdk (this opens the SDK manager) and download one of the SDK's. Then add this to your project.
Have a look at the IntelliJ documentation, which explains how to setup your SDK.
You have to setup a JDK first (see also Setting up JDK 7 for IntelliJ on the Mac), then you will be able to open your Android project.
I've somehow managed to mess up my Eclipse and Android set-up and I'm not sure how to fix it. The symptoms of the problem are as follows:
In Preferences > Android, I try to select the location of android-sdk-linux, when select the error appears "This Android SDK requires Android Developer Toolkit version 20.0.0 or above. Current version is 18.0.0.v201203301601-306762. Please update ADT to the latest version."
Going to Help > Check for Updates in Eclipse, returns no updates found
Going to Help > Install new software and selecting work with ADT Plugin - https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/. Selecting Developer Tools and next, returns
Cannot complete the request. See the error log for details.
"Android DDMS" will be ignored because it is already installed.
"Android Development Tools" will be ignored because it is already installed.
"Android Hierarchy Viewer" will be ignored because it is already installed.
"Android Traceview" will be ignored because it is already installed.
"Tracer for OpenGL ES" will be ignored because it is already installed.
If I then take a look at what is already install, Android Development Tools is listed and the version is 20.0.0.v201206242043-391819
Now for the interesting part:
If I go to Help > About > Installation Details > Features is lists Android Development Toolkit as Version: 20.0.0.v201206242043-391819 but if I then go into Plug-ins it lists Android Development Toolkit as Version: 18.0.0...
Sorry for yet another question on updating the ADT as there already seem to be quite a lot of questions on the topic but I've tried the typically solutions and they does seem to be getting me very far
Some extra info, that people often ask for
OS: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Eclipse Platform: Version 3.7.2
In your installed folder of eclipse there is a folder named plugins.
Do the following:
Find the plugin file/folder of Andriod SDK and move it to some other folder for backup.
Download from Android site the latest version of Android SDK
Copy/paste it in your plugins folder
Restart eclipse
And everything should be fine.
Try using http://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/ instead of https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/
In the end, I just couldn't fix it so I complete uninstalled it and set it back up again from scratch, thanks for your help
Run software updates in Eclipse (Help > Check for Updates) and update the ADT.
I know I'm late to the game on this one, but I figured I would contribute since I ran into the same problem myself. In order to check for installed plugins in Eclipse, do the following.
From the Eclipse Preferences Menu..
-Select "Install/Update"
-From the General Menu, There should be a link button that says "Uninstall or Update"
This should take you to a prompt that will allow you to uninstall anything you've added onto your Eclipse setup!
Go to the below site
https://developer.android.com/sdk/installing/installing-adt.html
and download ADT-22.3.0.zip from the site.
then follow the procedures mentioned there..
uncheck "Contact all update sites during install to find required software"
see: Can not install Android ADT 21.1 on eclipse Juno (Windows 7) after upadate to SDK 21.1
After updating the Android SDK Tools to the latest version from the SDK manager, do the following:
Go to Eclipse->Help->Install new software
Type https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/ in the "Work with" Text box
From the list, select all and then click next
Now Eclipse will prompt you that in order to install these new software, Eclipse will uninstall the old version (in this case Android Developer Tools), click on next, read and accept the license and wait for it to download
Restart Eclipse and everything should be working fine.
I have Eclipse and Java SE and am running Windows XP and am trying to setup Android for Eclipse.
I first:
Visit http://developer.android.com.
2. On the main page that appears, click the link to download the Android SDK.
3. Find a link appropriate to your operating system (Windows, Mac OS X, or Linux).
4. Click the link to begin the download.
I installed the Android SDK Tools
I then installed ADT as followed ( note I used http instead of https ) under downloading the ADT plugin.
http://developer.android.com/sdk/installing/installing-adt.html
It gave me some errors saying that somethings needed to be installed which would have been installed if i'd installed Java EE.
I saw a site that said go into the SDK Manager, so I tried installing somethind and it gave me this error:
[2012-06-28 14:32:27 - DDMS] DDMS files not found: K:\Android\platform-tools\adb.exe
[2012-06-28 14:32:27 - DDMS] DDMS files not found: K:\Android\platform-tools\adb.exe
What does this mean, and how can I get Android to work. Do I still need some thigns that Java EE has for Android?
I hate to say it, but restart Eclipse. My recent install gets confused sometimes and that's how I fix it. Hasn't failed to correct it yet.
The file path is wrong. You probably renamed a file in the directory after you installed Eclipse, and now you have to change the file path manually or re-install the program. That's why in the instructions, you are asked to install to developer on your main drive, and not some other file.
After moving eclipse to another drive I experienced this problem. Fix it by setting the SDK folder at Eclipse > Window > Preferences > Android > SDK Location:
Changing the Drive letter from C to E fixed this for me. Locate your eclipse folder on your drive and correct the path or use the browse button.
The path for me was E:\adt-bundle-windows-x86_64-20140702\sdk
Shutdown any other app that might be connecting to the phone via adb.exe eg. Visual Studio using android sdk.
Restart eclipse if needed.
install the installer from http://developer.android.com/sdk/installing/index.html?pkg=tools andriod intaller it will be all right
Set your SDK path in Preferences (Eclipse > Window > Preferences > Android > SDK Location:)
im starting developing android applications and i learned from a Hello World tutorial. but when im running it this comes to the screen
Launch configuration ANSIBuffer references non-existing project Basic.
Please, help me and tell how i can run a android application.
Thanks
I would recommend downloading the official adt (android development tools) plugin for eclipse. You can find instructions on how to do that here: http://developer.android.com/sdk/eclipse-adt.html you need to make sure that you have the most recent version of android sdk installed before you do that. Instructions on how to install that are here (this includes a eclipse tutorial): http://developer.android.com/sdk/installing.html
I believe that that is all you need. Just ask if you need more help!
I did a guide once for a course, but it is in spanish:
http://otfusion.org/android/ (look for day 2)
But basically the guide is this:
Download JDK from here: Java SE - Oracle
Download Android SDK (.zip format, just unzip it in C:\android-sdk or if you are in *nix /home/user/android-sdk) from here: Android SDK - Developer Guide
Start ~android-sdk/tools/android and download your desired android target (eclair, donut, honeycomb, etc)
Download Eclipse for Java Developers* (as far I know, the latest eclipse WORKS on my notebook) from here: Eclipse - Indigo
Install eclipse in a readable/writable location like /home/user/bin or /opt/eclipse but give permission to the file - chown -r user:users /opt/eclipse (in Windows you must not have problems) otherwhise you will have problems.
Install ADT Plugin just add this site in Eclipse "Add Software" option (Help menu) https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/
Restart Eclipse
Start one AVD and initiate your project using the Run button (As Android project) or whatever hotkey you use.
