I created an Android app which communicates via USART with a µC in order to evaluate data. My co-workers and customers should use the tablet for only this purpose now. Is there any possibility to "hide" the Android OS or making it inaccessible?
Devices are rooted and I am willing to build custom ROMs (even though I do not have any experience with that yet). Are there any approaches available that I do not have to start from scratch?

The first thing I tried was to start the app just after the boot of the device (Quite easy with this).
Then, I get Android source code, and I hide the bottom bar using this code
The problem is, if your application is not stable ... you'll have some problem.
If you want to modify Android source code, the developper doc contains a very good tutorial to start !

Hi I was building some tests for Android and now I want to run the same tests on IOS. Sometimes in my code I have to open google chrome then go back and launch the app, for that I use

and

My question is:
how can I use a similar command for IOS? I know that it has driver.launchApp(); but If I insert the Bundle_Name it doesn’t work. Is there another way?
To get quiet the same functionality for iOS with Appium you might look into using deep links:
driver.get('deep_link_url')
It allows navigating directly to appropriate screen of your iOS app.
However:
deep links should be implemented in your iOS application
it works only for Simulators at the moment.

My understanding of the GWT is that it provides an SDK and API that allows you to code in Java, and it generates all the client-side HTML, CSS and JavaScript required to run a full-fledged web (or mobile web) app.
My understanding of PhoneGap is that it allows you to code against its JavaScript API and, through configuration, allows you to tell it which native mobile platforms (Android, iOS, Windows Phone, etc.) it should create nativee wrappers for. Hence you "write once, run many" with it, turning your JavaScript code into a native Android app, native iOS app, etc.
If these two assumption are incorrect, please begin by correcting me! And, if there are any caveats to these assumptions, please let me know!
Assuming my understanding on GWT and PhoneGap are more or less correct, I want to try and use them together for an app that would be available as (1) a web app, (2) a mobile web app, (3) an Android app and (4) as an iOS app.
I want to "daisy-chain" these two in my Ant build, whereby my pure Java code is converted (via GWT) into JavaScript (that complies to the PhoneGap API), and then a second build process uses PhoneGap to create and deploy:
A Java WAR (web and mobile web app)
An Android APK
An iOS binary (I believe this is an IPA file, but I may be wrong)
So with those as the "givens", here are my questions:
Is this possible? If not, why? Any way to hack- or juryrig-together a solution that forces this to work?
I've noticed something called gwt-phonegap - will I need this in order for my proposed solution to work, or would this library just be a "nice to have"? Why or why not?
Any other considerations I am not thinking of here? Other libraries or tools that would behoove me?
Note: I have heard (but am not asserting!) that Titanium is superior to PhoneGap. Titanium, however, is not free. And I am quite broke. Thanks in advance for any help here!

I want to make an application that allow the user to take a picture of text either from android device Gallery or from android Camera application in a Panorama mode .But i can not find any source or tutorial to do this.How can i do this in my application? how to make an application that take picture from android camera application in a panaroma mode?

I don't know if it's still actual for you, but hope it will be helpful for someone.
Panorama feature is already implemented in standard android camera at least since Android 4.0 (perhaps it was available in even earlier versions but I'm not sure, you can check it), so since source code is open for everyone, it might be the easiest way just to copy required functionality.
Although you can download source of apps from https://android.googlesource.com/ (you want LegacyCamera or Camera), you can't just open project of any standard app in Eclipse or other IDE. For example, LegacyCamera depends on Gallery2 and other dependences that might be hard to be resolved.
I spent several days trying to move panorama feature to separate project. You can download it from here: https://github.com/yankeppey/PanoramaSample . Several remarks:
Functional core (creating one panorama image from several ones, progress notices, etc) is on native part.
I used java code from from LegacyCamera which was used in Android 4.0-4.1, not 4.2, because it was significantly easier for me. Native part is taken from 4.2, it has only minor changes inside and almost the same JNI interfaces.
This project is just to help you move panorama feature to your own app, it's not like kind of library, don't expect clean code without bugs, it's just pretty dirty and buggy project. If I have time I'll try to make it cleaner, but there is no warranty :)
I have to play flash (swf) in my program when the user clicks on a link. Which is best? Concentrate on android 2.2 and use the Adobe Flash Player, or what do you recommend? I have tested WebView, but can not play swf in the emulator. HTC has a custom flash player but it feel like a limitation.

Have you considered using Flash to create an AIR app for Android rather than using Java? If you have to download and run external swf files, this seems like a path of least resistance to me. Of course, this requires learning ActionScript, but it's not difficult if you know Java.
It's hard for me to give you a solid recommendation, much like toggy-tog-togs answer. B/c we don't know exactly how many swfs or what kind of swfs you are playing.
I mean, if your application is pretty much just playing swf's and you need a UI to run it, it might be worth looking at Air and Flex.
However, to address that first problem you had. I haven't tested it myself, but I am nearly 100% certain, that your emulator won't play flash content in a webview b/c you don't have flash player installed on the emulators. :-) Android supports Flash content but only after you download and install the player from the App store.
So you might want to try running your emulator and installing the Flash player app. I don't even know if that is possible but you ought to try it out. :-)
By the way, the Android emulator is trash, if you are serious about developing for the Android platform, you really have to pick up a device or two to debug on.

So your using JAVA if you are then it is best to open up the browser that is the easiest but if you are wanting to use it in the application (This is less loading time if it is included in the package) but it costs try using JFlashPlayer (It Costs For the full version) http://www.jpackages.com/jflashplayer/download/ This runs very fast on the android platform. Hope I could help.
It seems as if every Android application I really want to make is impossible to make with the current SDK. It doesn't give me access to certain things I would like to work with. This is an example of one of these things.
I know it is possible since I've seen apps in the market that do things that the SDK cannot do. My basic question is can someone point me in the direction of how to create such an application. I've searched around, but all of the links I've found are for developing with the SDK. A simple link to a tutorial that can show me how to access Android elements that aren't available through the SDK would be great.

You will not find a tutorial on it because the NDK is in flux..
What I have found is ..
One of the Eclipse CDT has blog posts on how to setup NDK projects in Eclipse.
The people who know Android Embedded C and frameworks are usually on certain IRc channel.
Plenty of code documentation..
Google search for android jni wrapper blog posts.
But keep this in mind several areas require state management as hey interact with hardware buffers in a certain way..ie audio..video..etc.
