Im having some layout issues, what I want to happen
1. My discussions_edit_text_wrap should be at the bottom of the view, when keyboard slides up it must be visible above the keyboard
2. The discussions_list_view should be just above the discussions_edit_text_wrap, also when keyboard slides up this should scroll to enable the user to view content. When the keyboard is closed this listview should not occupy the whole screen even if it has alot of items.
What happens
1. As the code is currently the list view shows but occupies the whole screen and runs underneath the edit text which sits at the top of the screen.
Help would be much appreciated, Thanks!
Here is the code:
<RelativeLayout

The fact is, when I show the keyboard on clicking in the editText, the view is not scrollable and the result is this :
I search like 3 hours on the internet but I found nothing, the only result that I found was to put this on the onCreate of my activity
getWindow().setSoftInputMode(WindowManager.LayoutParams.SOFT_INPUT_STATE_HIDDEN|WindowManager.LayoutParams.SOFT_INPUT_ADJUST_PAN|WindowManager.LayoutParams.SOFT_INPUT_ADJUST_RESIZE);
But it doesn't work either. (I've tried with and without each flag)
The second thing I've tried was to put the ScrollView into the RelativeLayout, but sameresult, doesn't work.
The thing I would like is that the keyboard appears below the edit text and that we do not see the button SEND RATE (except if the user scroll) and, finally, the user should be able to scroll even when the keyboard is displayed.
Am I doing something wrong or what ?
Thanks in advance !!
I have seen a few similar questions, but they want the things to show up, I want to hide them.
Basically I have a bunch of elements in my RelativeLayout and when the activity shows, the keyboard pops up, since I have an editText, and the elements that are aligned in the Bottom go up along the keyboard, I don't want that, I want them to stay hidden, any idea how can I achieve this?

The last two elements before the scrollview are the ones that need to stay hidden.
add the following to your activity in the manifest:
android:windowSoftInputMode="adjustPan"
from the API:
The activity's main window is not resized to make room for the soft keyboard. Rather, the contents of the window are automatically panned so that the current focus is never obscured by the keyboard and users can always see what they are typing. This is generally less desirable than resizing, because the user may need to close the soft keyboard to get at and interact with obscured parts of the window.
By my understanding of your question you do not want the keyboard to push the UI elements at the bottom of your layout.
To achieve this all you need to do is put the following line into your manifest activity tag:
android:windowSoftInputMode="adjustNothing"
I have been struggeling the last 2 hours to get the layout of an RecycleView working the way I want it to. Basically all I want is that three items of the RecycleView fit onto one screen width, like this: Example

That is almost what I wanted but the items are now sized based on the length of the description. Instead I want the description to wrap if needed. Can someone elaborate on why this is happening an how to fix it?
why this is happening
You set the width of the RelativeLayout as wrap content. It makes the widh wrapped to the content as the name suggest.
How to fix it
You have to change it to a fixed value, say 200dp.
Here are some other things I have noticed in the provided layout:
You should consider using "match_parent" instead of "fill_parent" because it is deprecated since API level 8.
layout_centerInParent="true" have no effect in the CardView because it is already filled to the parent
Remove the line weightSum="3" in the CardView because it won't work on RelativeLayout
I am designing a layout for an activity where some contents like Textview, spinner and buttons are arranged in the upper part of the screen. I want to position image view to the bottom of the screen with a match_parent attribute to fill to the remaining bottom of the screen and it has become a challenge to me as the image view is filling to the bottom of the remaining part of the screen. This is the entire layout of the upper section/part of the screen
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

this is remaining part of the layout with a view flipper for an image that I want it to fit down to the remaining part of the screen but its not fitting as it shrinks up

please kindly assist!
Try adding the imageview to the Viewflipper like so:
<ViewFlipper
android:id="#+id/simpleViewFlipper"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content">
<ImageView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:src=IMAGE />
</ ViewFlipper >
Having said that you might find some issues regarding swiping when using a viewflipper inside a scrollview
So, i want to make an adding activity which is used for 3 different tables.
In the last one i want the date EditText to be gone.
I know how to make it disappear but i want the layout o change too and this is how it looks when date EditText is present
3 EditTexts and Button with alignbottom set to date EditText
And this is how it looks when I set date EditText to gone
2 EditTexts and Button with alignbottom set to the gone EditText
Try layout like that:
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:orientation="horizontal"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent">
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content">
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="0dp"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_weight="2"
android:orientation="vertical">
<EditText
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="0dp"
android:layout_weight="1"/>
<EditText
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="0dp"
android:layout_weight="1"/>
<EditText
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="0dp"
android:layout_weight="1"
android:visibility="visible"/>
</LinearLayout>
<Button
android:layout_width="0dp"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_weight="1"/>
</LinearLayout>
</LinearLayout>
The thing is, that you need another supporting layout, which is the number two in my hierarchy, which will have android:layout_height="wrap_content", so when you set the visibility to gone to one of the EditTexts, it is gonna change the height of the LinearLayout according to the other two EditTexts height, where Button's height is always android:layout_height="match_parent".
LinearLayout with orientation of vertical containing the EditText, wrapped in a horizontal LinearLayout containing the Button too. If both the LinearLayout and the Button have a height of wrap content, they will adapt regardless of how many EditText there are
<LinearLayout
android:orientation="horizontal"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_centerVertical="true"
android:layout_centerHorizontal="true">
<LinearLayout
android:orientation="vertical"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_weight="1">
<EditText
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="New Text"
android:id="#+id/textView" />
<EditText
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="New Text"
android:id="#+id/textView2" />
<EditText
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="New Text"
android:id="#+id/textView3" />
</LinearLayout>
<Button
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:text="New Button"
android:id="#+id/button"
android:layout_weight="1"
android:background="#3e3e3e" />
</LinearLayout>
