Can prepareStatement do the same thing like Statement? - java

My DB is Oracle.
I know Statement can mix SQL sentences(insert or delete or update) into one single batch. Here is my code.

You can create a batch by PreparedStatement.addBatch() and you can execute it by PreparedStatement.executeBatch

Statement:
Use for general-purpose access to your database. Useful when you are using static SQL statements at runtime. The Statement interface cannot accept parameters.
PreparedStatement:
Use when you plan to use the SQL statements many times. The PreparedStatement interface accepts input parameters at runtime.
CallableStatement:
Use when you want to access database stored procedures. The CallableStatement interface can also accept runtime input parameters.

If it is an auto generated key, then you can use Statement#getGeneratedKeys() for this. You need to call it on the same Statement as the one being used for the INSERT. You first need to create the statement using Statement.RETURN_GENERATED_KEYS to notify the JDBC driver to return the keys.
Here's a basic example:

Note that you're dependent on the JDBC driver as to whether it works. Currently, most of the last versions will work, but if I am correct, Oracle JDBC driver is still somewhat troublesome with this. MySQL and DB2 already supported it for ages. PostgreSQL started to support it not long ago. I can't comment about MSSQL as I've never used it.
For Oracle, you can invoke a CallableStatement with a RETURNING clause or a SELECT CURRVAL(sequencename) (or whatever DB-specific syntax to do so) directly after the INSERT in the same transaction to obtain the last generated key. See also this answer.

I'm using SQLServer 2008, but I have a development limitation: I cannot use a new driver for it, I have to use "com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver" (I cannot use "com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver").

With Hibernate's NativeQuery, you need to return a ResultList instead of a SingleResult, because Hibernate modifies a native query

This is the simplest solution for SQL Server as well as a few other SQL dialects (e.g. Firebird, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, where you'd use RETURNING instead of OUTPUT).

With Hibernate's NativeQuery, you need to return a ResultList instead of a SingleResult, because Hibernate modifies a native query

if you try to get a single result, which causes most databases (at least PostgreSQL) to throw a syntax error. Afterwards, you may fetch the resulting id from the list (which usually contains exactly one item).

If you are using Spring JDBC, you can use Spring's GeneratedKeyHolder class to get the inserted ID.

If you are using JDBC (tested with MySQL) and you just want the last inserted ID, there is an easy way to get it. The method I'm using is the following:

Remember to add the connector/J to the project referenced libraries.
In my case, the connector/J version is the 5.1.42. Maybe you will have to apply some changes to the connectionPath if you want to use a more modern version of the connector/J such as with the version 8.0.28.

I have a problem with following method. The method generate a valid query, but it cannot insert the table monitor.

You aren't commiting, and you aren't closeing your Statement (or Connection). You could use a try-with-resources close and add a commit like

Also, I strongly recommend you use a PreparedStatement and ? placeholder (or bind paramters) for performance and security reasons instead of building your inserts as String.
Thanks for the help and advise, finally I found the problem, my old insert method is work fine(but I update and refact as Elliott Frisch advised), the problem is only I swap two columns with different types,so PhPMyAdmin is handle the error(give 0 to mismatch value), but Java JDBC cannot resolve, so drop the insert task.

MySQL load Data with "true" in it

is it possible to load only the strings from my database to my server, which have "true" in it? E.g.: It should load"a.b.e.true" but not "a.b.e" When yes, how can I do that? I am using Java.
Yes; it would be slow, but your query would be something like this:
SELECT string_column FROM table_name WHERE string_column LIKE '%true%'
If you also want to match on "TRUE", then you'd replace LIKE with ILIKE (which is case-insensitive).

How to check database from java if exists row with given criteria?

I have table VIDEO (VideoID int Primary Key, Address Varchar(100)) and I want to search table to see if there is video with given address. But I am not sure if this code works good, and if this could be better done.
Here is my code:

Be sure you have an index set on column ADDRESS. Then your query should run fast.
It is better to use a prepared statement to pass the address value to the query. And you should close the result set and the statement.

The code is fine, except for the way you're embedding strings in your query. If address contains a quote character, the query will become invalid. And this is only a small part of the problem. Doing it like this opens the door to SQL injection attacks, where malicious users could enter an address which completely changes the meaning of the query.
Always use prepared statements to bind parameters:

stmt.setString(1, address); // proper escaping is done for you by the JDBC driver

Also, you should use finally blocks to close your result sets and statements.
Your code is vulnerable to SQL Injection, it should use a prepared statement instead of building the SQL query via string concatenation.
Apart from that, it looks OK.
