Check for updates in eclipse - java

I am trying to update ADT plugin from 20.0.3 to 22.6.2, I am using Eclipse juno, My eclipse takes almost 8 hours from the morning, Still it trying to Contacting Software Sites , I don't know what have to do now, Any help will be highly appreciable.
Note: Already I have unchecked all other software sites expect https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/

Try connecting to the site using your web browser.
If the browser succeeds and Eclipse fails, then the problem is most likely the Eclipse proxy settings.
If the browser also fails to access the site, then it is time to talk to your local network people ...
FWIW, I can connect to that site using a browser.

When google OAuth asks to open a URL for approval, I get "Firefox can’t establish a connection to the server at localhost:8888"

I'm a newbie having trouble to open a URL to approve a OAuth for a google sheets doc I created. Please excuse me if I don't describe the issue clearly. I'm not sure if I'm having a networking issue or a google OAuth issue, or something else.
When I run a java jar I created which reads a google sheets doc, the terminal provides a long URL to open and approve access to the google sheets doc I created. But Firefox gives me the error message noted in the subject, and says "Unable to connect". This is on my desktop Ubuntu PC. I tried also with Safari on my iphone, and it responded "Safari cannot open the page because it could not connect to the server".
I know the java code works well as does reading the google sheets because it worked when run within Eclipse IDE. When I did that, I went through successfully the OAuth consent and credential creation process and downloaded/saved the needed token. Subsequently, when I ran the java code, I opened a similar approval long URL, approved it, and all was well. Its OAuth is in "production" status, so the approval doesn't expire after 7 days (which it did when originally in "testing" mode). It's working well for a couple months now. I had gone through the google App verification process, but google replied "It looks like your app is only used by the people in your domain, so your project doesn’t need to be verified." I'm the only user of this java app and google sheet. Having this work successfully within Eclipse, now I'm trying to get it to run successfully as a JAR so I can run it from a script or console.
Thank you for any help or advice you could provide. I am new to coding, networking, etc. I'm teaching myself/hobby.
EDIT:
I forgot to mention, in the terminal, just after the URL is provided for the google OAuth approval process ("https://accounts.google.com/o/oauth2/auth?access_type=long_URL_and_client_id"), I had a java JAR exception:
"Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: Can't load library: /usr/lib/jvm/java-17-openjdk-amd64/lib/libawt_xawt.so"
That exception doesn't occur when I run my java program within Eclipse, but only when running the JAR version from the terminal. Is it the cause of the firefox issue I described in the title?
I was able to resolve my issue. The java exception I noted in the EDIT above was the cause. When I resolved it and re-ran my JAR, firefox was able to open the URL and complete the google OAuth process, and the JAR ran successfully.
The java exception was caused by a missing library because my installed java-17-openjdk was a headless version as described here. I installed the missing library/folder "/usr/lib/jvm/java-17-openjdk-amd64/lib/libawt_xawt.so" with "sudo apt install openjdk-17-jre".

Google App Engine - Eclipse Authentication

I have the Eclipse GAE Plugin keeping memory of a previous Google Authentication and thus not allowing me to upload a GAE app associated to a different account. The strange thing is that I can't find any GAE button at the bottom of My Eclipse Installation (as mentioned in some docs on the Internet). The only thing I have managed to do is to add the --no_cookies option in the upload command which opens a new tab in chrome allowing me to provide the right auth.
Unfortunately this doesn't seem to update the Eclipse configuration so I have to do it at any upload.
How should I fix that?

What is the alternatives for Java Applet to launch client programs using Chrome browsers?

I am working in a web application using ASP.net and C#.
My target is to check on a desktop application on the client machine .. If it was exist then I should launch it. Else if it wasn't exist, we should download, install and then launch it.
I could develop this module using Java Applet but unfortunately, Google decided to disable NPAPI in September 2015, So the applet will not working on Chrome.
My question is about the Applet alternatives to help me implementing the above scenario ?
The only (semi) viable option as far as I can see, is to offer the Chrome user a link to a JNLP file for a desktop application. Then when/if the JWS desktop application starts, have it report back to the server 'loaded OK' and then 'target app. installed/not installed'.
On your server, have a time out for waiting on the client to report back. If it passes that time, presume the client machine does not support Java at all and the user is checking some web service to try and figure out what app. opens a JNLP!
After searching about the most suitable way to achieve my goal, I think using custom protocols will be a nice solution to access my client applications from the web page.
This solution is used by many companies such as Microsoft (using mailto: to open Outlook application) and Apple (using itms: to open iTunes application).
The following link is a very good link which talk about a custom protocols:
https://support.shotgunsoftware.com/entries/86754-How-to-launch-external-applications-using-custom-protocols-rock-instead-of-http-
Once Google Chrome was the first to announce that they won’t be supporting NPAPI anymore, they were also the first to provide a new architecture in order to rewrite your code to work on their browser. You can take a look on Native Messaging, which “can exchange messages with native applications using an API that is similar to the other message passing APIs”. The problem is that this approach only works on Chrome, is not something that you can adapt to other browsers.
A more useful approach is FireBreath, a browser plugin in a post NPAPI world. Check the words below from one buddy of the project:
“FireBreath 2 will allow you to write a plugin that works in NPAPI, ActiveX, or through Native Messaging; it’s getting close to ready to go into beta. It doesn’t have any kind of real drawing support, but would work for what you describe. The install process is a bit of a pain, but it works. The FireWyrm protocol that the native messaging component uses could be used with any connection that allows passing text data; it should be possible to make it work with js-ctypes on firefox or plausibly WEB-RTC or even CORS AJAX in some way. For now the only thing we needed to solve was Chrome, but we did it in a way that should be pretty portable to other technologies.”

Netbeans Java web app deployment to web host

I have created a java web application in netbeans using a glassfish server and mySql database.
The web application is working correctly in my local environment and now i want to deploy to my host name which ive purchase from 1and1. Ive transfer my Web folder to my host name via FTP but im literally stuck now.
I know i have to somehow add the glassfish server to that host name but i dont how to do this.
can anyone help me please.
thanks in advance
Basically if you a remote control it is not a big deal.
basic steps would be
- install mysql
- install jdk
- install glassfish
Assuming you have a *nix based server.
Here you can find steps related to GF3 installation. However I do not like the way GF installation described there. Moreover I do not think you are going to have X environment on your server. So if you need to install GF3 you can follow installation for JDK and install GF3 from a zip file. The process is described in the the installation tutorial for GF4. It would be the same for GF3. There also you may find instructions how to install JDK7. At least one important step is missing in that tutorial however. If you do all the steps from that tutorial, your GF instance would not start when OS is restarted. You can find how to fix this in the official documentation. There you can find how you can configure your GF to start as a service. The steps are the same for v3 and v4.
Basically I provided the first two links because of additional information like how to enable WEB console for remote access. You cannot access it right after installation. You have to enable it by changing admin's password and.. but you find the description there.
You can find many blogs tutorials even videos if you google a bit. Tutorial for ubuntu more informative from my point. Many steps are not specific for ubuntu and could be reused for other distributions.
More thoughts about where and how to install GF here on stackoverflow
Just in case couple of links for mysql 5 installation
official documentation
tutorial for different distributions
Just in case. You can use putty for remote access. If your server is configured to allow this, you would be able to connect. You may want to ask support team to clarify it.
For windows it is even simpler
you can download an installer from here for GF4 of from here for GF3. You also can download a zip file and install GF as a service. See official documentation and step-bystep simplified tutorial with pictures here.
I think jdk and mysql would not be a problem on windows based server

Java Web Start - Does it work with Android?

As the title says, is deploying/using applications through Java Web Start a viable option? I found a few posts online from years ago saying that the JavaME applications are only available.
No, it's not an option. Android has an Application Store (called Android Market) that serves a similar purpose: managing applications install, updates and versions... So, technically, you don't need JWS.
Why not just host the .APK file locally on your lan on a webserver and allow people to download it from their browsers?
I believe the only way to get automatic updates like webstart is to use the android market. However, if you just want to deploy your app in your local lan, you can put the app as a link on an internal web server and have people navigate to it using the browser.
