I apologize if this is an absolutely dunce question. I typically use Intellij Idea, and I'm not quite so familiar with Eclipse, so maybe this is part of my problem. I'm trying to compile a jar, I've done the export, as jar file, and checked "create .class files" in the output options, I click finish, and it "compiles" the jar file for me in the output.
I go to check the .jar file (open in Winrar) and the .jar file contains a folder named src, with all the .java source code, and there are no .class files in the .jar file. I figured maybe I could just change the file extension, because I thought maybe it just didn't change the extension, but when I got to view the file, it is clear that it hasn't even been parsed, as it is still in source format.
I receive no compile errors when I try to export it in Eclipse. I do have build errors for the entire project, but I'm not so worried about the entire project, I just wanted to compile one .jar file. And the build errors are not relating to the .jar file I'm trying to build, they are related to other files. Is it necessary to fix every build error to compile one .jar file? I'm just not quite sure why it would "compile" with no build errors, and then not actually compile.
Thank you in advance for any help!
Right click on your project > select Export... > select if your project is runnable or only JAR > check the option "Export Java source files and resources" > Finish

I did some robot framework python examples with pybot, and referenced .py files as my library files. The folder structure I used was test/lib/myLib.py and test/test/myTest.robot, where /test was at the same level as the /src folder in my project in eclipse.
I then tried to do similar things with a java project using jython. I have /test/test/myTest.robot which imports the library ../lib/myLib.java. I even tried importing this file using RIDE, but it always shows up as red text, meaning the import failed. The specific message I get from using jybot on the command line is:
"Importing test library 'C:\Users\cody\git\myProject\test\lib\myLib.java' failed: ImportError: No module named myLib"
I read that I might need to add it to classpath, and I think in order to do so, I need to make it a .jar file. I'd rather not do all that if possible to just leave it as a .java file. I attempted to add the lib folder to the build path... By that I mean I added the /test/lib folder to the "Source folders on build path". I also exported the darn thing as a jar and added that as a library. All this was done from the project properties in Eclipse.
I'm pretty stuck... any ideas how to get this working?
Java being a compiled language, you need to compile your java Class before importing it with RobotFramework.
Normally, Eclipse would do that for you, and put the resulting .class files inside a bin repository. If not, you can issue the javac path/to/file.java command, and move the resulting .class file where you want it (somewhere referenced by the classpath.
From within the .robot file, you should have the line Library test/lib/myLib, without neither .java nor .class at the end.
I have made use of JDBC in one of my projects and it worked flawlessly in Eclipse. I had to add the ojdbc6.jar to Java Build Path to the project BTW. (I have also not included any Class.forName statements in the code since I heard it's optional for JDBC 4 and above)
When I export the project into a jar file, and try to run it, it complains saying "No driver found for JDBC" and so on. I can see that this is because the ojdbc6.jar is missing from the build path now. Can someone please let me know of a solution?
Thanks!
Here is a simple method to export a JAR that uses external jar as libs:
You have to write a manifest file, I named it jar.manifest.
The content in manifest file looks like:
Manifest-Version:1.0
Main-Class:com.enginebai.activity.MyJDBCProgram
Class-Path:lib/ojdbc6.jar lib/some-externam-lib.jar
and make sure to put a blank line under Class-Path, otherwise the JAR won't run. (I have no idea why to put a blank line over there.)
Let's go back to eclipse:
In eclipse, you export your classes and remember to select above manifest file.
Make sure your ojdbc6.jar be in project/lib folder.
Open your terminal and cd to project root directory, enter `java -jar your-jar-name.jar', it should work then.
put ojdbc6.jar on classpath when you run your jar
I have done some research and found a solution that seems to work.
I have exported the project into a "Runnable Jar file" instead of just a "jar file".
This way, I was actually able to repack Jar files from my Build Path into the new Jar file I am exporting my project to. Simple and clean.
You also might want to look at signed Jar files and any other certificates in your existing jar files in the Build Path. They cannot directly be repacked through the export option.
I am trying to build the project Sharpen by versant. I will start out that I don't know anything really about java and it's tools, hence why I am trying to build Sharpen(Java to C# converter). So I ended up building the project, but now I am left with a bunch of .class files in the bin directories.
How can I turn those .class files into a executable .jar file so I can run it? Sharpen is an eclipse plug in, so will I need to do anything extra, and will I have to manually remove files from their subdirectories in the bin folder and add them to the main bin directory?
Go to file->export->JAR file,
select "Export generated class files and sources" and make sure that your project is selected, and all folder
I am using eclipse IDE and want to edit the attached source file of the jar file. For doing this i downloaded the src.zip and attached the file, but it is opening as a .class though I am able to read the file (which is a .class file) but i also want to edit the file.
Why I am not allowed to edit it? how to open an attached file with .java extension not .class extension.
thanks in advance
That's not possible. In order to edit the source, you have to unpack the JAR and create an eclipse project, from which you can then create a JAR with the modified code.
Because you have to link it... Source files are not tied to compiled classes in jar, so if you edit it, nothing will happen to the jar file
You have to create a separate project in Eclipse, and rebuild the jar with your modifications
.class files are not readable by human being unless you decompile it. Many decompilers exist. Carefull about what you are allowed to do and what you aren't, though...
Usually, .java aren't in .jar.
My project runs fine from Eclipse.
But when I tried to make it into a jar file or executable file it doesn't work.
I used the option "Export-Runnable JAR file"
The following message appears just after the eclipse finished the exporting process
JAR export finished with wornings , see details.
the details were ..
Exported with compile warnings:Mario/src/Map.java
and the same for other classes like
Exported with compile warnings:Mario/src/Player.java
and so on.
So that I used the other option "Export - JAR file"
It works fine and nothing appears while exporting it from Eclipse.
But when I try to open the file it gives me
Couldn't find the main class:Frame.Program will exit
Somebody have any idea about what the problem is?
Your MANIFEST.MF file inside the META-INF dir should have a Main-Class attribute pointing to your main class.
The important thing for executable jar is Manifest. Make sure it exists and points to the correct class with main method
