I suspect it will print something like
Hello avax.swing.JTextField[,0,0,0x0,invalid,layout=javax.swing.plaf.basic.BasicTextUI$UpdateHandler,alignmentX=0.0,alignmentY=0.0,border=javax.swing.plaf.BorderUIResource$CompoundBorderUIResource#58372a00,flags=296,maximumSize=,minimumSize=,preferredSize=,caretColor=sun.swing.PrintColorUIResource[r=51,g=51,b=51],disabledTextColor=javax.swing.plaf.ColorUIResource[r=184,g=207,b=229],editable=true,margin=javax.swing.plaf.InsetsUIResource[top=0,left=0,bottom=0,right=0],selectedTextColor=sun.swing.PrintColorUIResource[r=51,g=51,b=51],selectionColor=javax.swing.plaf.ColorUIResource[r=184,g=207,b=229],columns=0,columnWidth=0,command=,horizontalAlignment=LEADING]
You've still got a lot of livin' left to do!
Or some such.
This is because you're using
jTextPane1.setText("Hello " + jTextField1 + "\n You've still got a lot of livin' left to do!");
Which automatically calls the jTextField1's toString method (nice feature when you're use to it).
Instead you should be using JTextField#getText to get the text that the field contains, for example...
jTextPane1.setText("Hello " + jTextField1.getText() + "\n You've still got a lot of livin' left to do!");
The other problem is, there is nothing calling the jButton1ActionPerformed method to actually print anything.
You need to attach an ActionListener to the buttons and have them call the method to update text...
For example...
jButton1.addActionListener(new ActionListener() {
#Override
public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
jButton1ActionPerformed(e);
}
});
You'll need to do this for each button...
Now, I suggest you put away the form designer and take some time read through Creating a GUI With JFC/Swing. It will give you a greater appreciation of how Swing GUIs are created and how a tool like the form designer can be used.

I just want to ask if I can change the text in radio button.
For example:
here in the picture if I put a number, it will show the number factors at the radio button. ( the factor 1 will just show in Jlabel and the rest of the factor will show at the Radio button) the problem part at the private void checkbtnActionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) I already tried to use .setText() but I think this will not work for radio button or button group. Is there another way to do that

Ok to start I made a jframe with the built in jFrame creator for netbeans. I added a combobo (jcbClass) and in the model options in bottom right of screen I added a few items. So I double clicked the combobox to add more items to jcbClass based on the previous combobox's selected item.
but when I run the program and change the race combobox nothing more is added to jcbClass. I have tested jcb.addItem("bob"); in many places just to see if it even adds it to the combobox in the first place and it does not. Please help I am quite frustrated over this simple task.

I am building a product database and when I'm using the update database function my program crashes.
The issue is one string the program itself throws in.
I retrieve the data from the database text file and because I'm using numberformat.getCurrencyInstance and it throws in a dollar sign. So I threw in an exception String price = updatePriceTextField.getText().substring(1); so it would bypass the dollar sign in the beginning of the text field and send the information back to the textfile and save.
Now it brought up my current problem which is: when I enter a number bigger than 999 and I get to thousands, it brings in a comma: example: $3000.00 is now $3,000.00 and when i try to send that information back to the database it throws in an error and crashes.
Now I know I could just simply add in another substring to avoid, and solve the problem like that, but what if the price of the object lets say is: $300000000.00 the the program throws in 2 commas $300,000,000.00 and would crash again. So what sort of exception or command should I throw in to bypass these commas except substring.
Sorry for the long post, but I tried to explain the issue as well as I could.

Use a JFormattedTextField instead, this way you just use getValue and it will return you the unformatted value for the field.
See How to Use Formatted Text Fields for more details
a little information on my assignment:
Based on the Person class previously defined, design your own Java application that displays a form for a user to enter their name, year_of_birth and employment status. The provided data will be used to instantiate a Person object. The form should also include a JButton and a JTextField. When the user clicks on the JButton the application should display “Welcome [name]! You are [age] old. Time has been kind to you.”, where [name] and [age] are the current values of the name and age attributes of the Person object.
I am a little new to creating GUI's. I have used the jFrame design that allows me to create the design of the GUI. I am having trouble using that form to display the results. Specifically, having the button display the results, having there name stored in a variable once they type it in, and brining up a dialog box once the button is clicked with the message.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am already past the due date and very confused on how coding for GUI's go.
There is whole lot of unnecessary code you have. you need to clean it up for example you have 3 dialog instances. you do not need them. coming to your question you need to write implementation like:
private void jButton1ActionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) {
// This will display message
JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(this, "Welcome" + name.getText() + " ! You are " + getAge(Integer.parseInt(year_of_berth.getText())) + " old. Time has been kind to you.");
// here you need to write code to populate your Person Object.
}
Hope this helps
You don't need a event for every textField. This:
name.addActionListener(new java.awt.event.ActionListener() {
public void actionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) {
nameActionPerformed(evt);
}
});
year_of_birth.addActionListener(new java.awt.event.ActionListener() {
public void actionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) {
year_of_birthActionPerformed(evt);
}
});
I wipe this fragment of code.
You only need an event when the user click the button, therefore this event what you'll need.
Instead of the methods nameActionPerformed() and year_of_birthActionPerformed(), I would create a getName() and getYearOfBirth() methods.
private String getName(){
return name.getText();
}
private int getYearOfBirth(){
return Integer.parseInt(year_of_birth.getText());
}
Then, in the method of button event:
private void jButton1ActionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) {
String name = getName();
int year = getYearOfBirth();
System.out.println("Welcome" + name + " ! You are " + getAge(year) + " old. Time has been kind to you.");
}
