How can I scroll vertically within a GridLayout? I have already tried using a ScrollView with the GridLayout as a Child, with RelativeLayout children within the GridLayout, but that results in all of the children piling on top of each other and or going outside of the layout.
Before Using the GridLayout in ScrollView:
After GridLayout in ScrollView:
I need to achieve that effect with the GridLayout inside the ScrollView as a Child
My XML layout file:
<ScrollView
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_alignParentBottom="true"
android:fillViewport="true">
<LinearLayout
android:id="#+id/boxContainer"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content">
<GridLayout
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="315dp">
<!-- RelativeLayout children go here -->
</GridLayout>
</LinearLayout>
</ScrollView>
I am initialising them in OnCreate with LayoutParams:
//MiddleLayout
GridLayout.LayoutParams middleLayoutLayoutParams = (GridLayout.LayoutParams)middleLayout.getLayoutParams();
middleLayoutLayoutParams.setMargins(2, 273, 400, 0);
middleLayoutLayoutParams.setGravity(Gravity.LEFT);
middleLayoutLayoutParams.width = 424;
middleLayout.setLayoutParams(middleLayoutLayoutParams);
middleLayout.setBackgroundDrawable(new ColorDrawable(Color.RED));
middleLayout.bringToFront();
//MiddleLayout1
GridLayout.LayoutParams middleLayoutLayoutParams1 = (GridLayout.LayoutParams)middleLayout1.getLayoutParams();
middleLayoutLayoutParams1.setMargins(431, 273, -2, 0);
middleLayout1.getLayoutParams().width = 645;
middleLayout1.setLayoutParams(middleLayoutLayoutParams1);
middleLayout1.setBackgroundDrawable(new ColorDrawable(Color.GREEN));
//TopLayout
GridLayout.LayoutParams topLayoutLayoutParams = (GridLayout.LayoutParams)topLayout.getLayoutParams();
topLayoutLayoutParams.setMargins(2, 0, -2, 676);
topLayout.getLayoutParams().width = 631;
topLayout.setLayoutParams(topLayoutLayoutParams);
topLayout.setBackgroundDrawable(new ColorDrawable(Color.rgb(255, 154, 0)));
//TopLayout1
GridLayout.LayoutParams topLayoutLayoutParams1 = (GridLayout.LayoutParams)topLayout1.getLayoutParams();
topLayoutLayoutParams1.setMargins(638, 0, -2, 676);
topLayout1.getLayoutParams().width = 440;
topLayout1.setLayoutParams(topLayoutLayoutParams1);
topLayout1.setBackgroundDrawable(new ColorDrawable(Color.BLUE));
//bottomLayout
GridLayout.LayoutParams bottomLayoutLayoutParams = (GridLayout.LayoutParams)bottomLayout.getLayoutParams();
bottomLayoutLayoutParams.setMargins(2, 0, -2, 2);
bottomLayout.getLayoutParams().width = 1073;
bottomLayout.setLayoutParams(bottomLayoutLayoutParams);
bottomLayout.setBackgroundDrawable(new ColorDrawable(Color.rgb(0, 0, 153)));
Any idea how I can get these to display properly within a GridLayout, or create the ScrollView/GridLayout Programatically?
Thanks!
I have been using GridLayouts by setting up the elements in rows and columns. The vertical scroll works without any problems. Have you tried something like this?
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<ScrollView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:id="#+id/container_scroll_view"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent" >
<GridLayout
android:id="#+id/container"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:columnCount="16" >
<TextView
android:id="#+id/orange"
android:layout_row="0"
android:layout_column="0"
android:layout_columnSpan="6"
android:text="Social" />
<Space
android:id="#+id/space_col"
android:layout_marginBottom="8dp"
android:layout_marginLeft="16dp"
android:layout_column="6"
android:layout_columnSpan="4" />
<TextView
android:id="#+id/blue"
android:layout_row="0"
android:layout_column="10"
android:layout_columnSpan="6"
android:text="Utilities" />
<TextView
android:id="#+id/red"
android:layout_row="1"
android:layout_column="0"
android:layout_columnSpan="6"
android:text="Games" />
<TextView
android:id="#+id/green"
android:layout_row="1"
android:layout_column="6"
android:layout_columnSpan="10"
android:text="Google" />
</GridLayout>
</ScrollView>
You can adjust the row height by adding margins for top/bottom to the text views as needed. Don't use the margins and gravity to position the children. Only use row/column spec.
You probably need a two-way GridView like this:
https://github.com/jess-anders/two-way-gridview
both horizontal and vertical options are supported.

I build a custom dialog to pop up an image with close button like this:
As you can see the dialog is not fitting the dialog layout and there's this white borer on the top and on the right, so how can i get rid the white border thing and make my custom dialog fit?
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"

getWindow().setBackgroundDrawable(new ColorDrawable(Color.TRANSPARENT));
Use Above Code in your Dialog class to make Dialog TransParent
Remove margin Top and right on LinearLayout:
android:layout_marginRight="5dp"
android:layout_marginTop="10dp"
To make the Dialog bigger, you can set those parameters to MATCH_PARENT.
int screenWidth = 0, screenHeight = 0 ;
Display display = thid.getWindowManager().getDefaultDisplay();
screenWidth = display.getWidth();
screenHeight = display.getHeight();
Dialog dialog = new Dialog(getActivity(), android.R.style.Theme_DeviceDefault);
dialog.requestWindowFeature(Window.FEATURE_NO_TITLE);
dialog.setContentView(R.layout.cart_empty);
WindowManager.LayoutParams lp = new WindowManager.LayoutParams();
lp.copyFrom(dialog.getWindow().getAttributes());
lp.width = screenWidth;
lp.height = screenHeight;
dialog.getWindow().setAttributes(lp);
dialog.show();
So i'm trying to create a board game token, and place that token at it's starting point. Just so happens on this level it starts on top of ImageView onetwo. However when i create the token and tell it where to go it shows up under the gridview. Any ideas or help would be appreciated!
I guess its because i'm using RelativeLayout.ALIGN_TOP inside a grid view but i haven't see the alternative.
Java:
public void createToken(){
// Let's create the missing ImageView
ImageView image = new ImageView(this);
// Now the layout parameters, these are a little tricky at first
RelativeLayout.LayoutParams params = new RelativeLayout.LayoutParams(75, 75);
params.addRule(RelativeLayout.ALIGN_RIGHT, R.id.onetwo);
params.addRule(RelativeLayout.ALIGN_LEFT, R.id.onetwo);
params.addRule(RelativeLayout.ALIGN_TOP, R.id.onetwo);
params.addRule(RelativeLayout.ALIGN_BOTTOM, R.id.onetwo);
image.setScaleType(ImageView.ScaleType.CENTER_INSIDE);
image.setImageResource(R.drawable.robo);
// Let's get the root layout and add our ImageView
GridLayout layout = (GridLayout) findViewById(R.id.gridLayout1);
layout.addView(image, params);
}
XML:
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:id="#+id/root" >
...
<GridLayout
android:id="#+id/gridLayout1"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_centerInParent="true"
android:columnCount="3"
android:rowCount="5" >
...
<ImageView
android:id="#+id/onetwo"
android:layout_width="75dp"
android:layout_height="75dp"
android:layout_columnSpan="1"
android:layout_rowSpan="1"
android:contentDescription="#string/gameboard"
android:gravity="center"
android:src="#drawable/tile" />
...
</GridLayout>
...
</RelativeLayout>
If you want to stack layout elements on top of each other then you should use a FrameLayout.
I ended up creating an imageview programmatically and then placing it inside the relative layout below on top of the imageview:
<GridLayout
android:id="#+id/gridLayout1"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_centerInParent="true"
android:columnCount="3"
android:rowCount="5" >
<RelativeLayout
android:layout_width="75dp"
android:layout_height="75dp"
android:layout_columnSpan="1"
android:layout_rowSpan="1"
android:id="#+id/LLoneone">
<ImageView
android:id="#+id/oneone"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:contentDescription="#string/gameboard"
android:gravity="center"
android:src="#drawable/tile" />
</RelativeLayout>
I would like to make an activity with this structure:
The idea is to put some text in the top, a banner allways in the top, the button OVER the banner and my canvas in the center of the view, using all the possible space.
I'm subclassing View to draw my canvas and overloading the onMeasure() method:
#Override
protected void onMeasure(int widthMeasureSpec, int heightMeasureSpec) {
// Calculate the size of the board
this.squareSize = MeasureSpec.getSize(widthMeasureSpec) / BOARD_NUM_ROWS;
this.leftMargin = (MeasureSpec.getSize(widthMeasureSpec) - squareSize*BOARD_NUM_COLUMNS) / 2;
this.topMargin = this.leftMargin;
// Set the size of the board to full width and aspect ratio height
int desiredWidth = MeasureSpec.getSize(widthMeasureSpec);
int desiredHeight = this.topMargin + (BOARD_NUM_ROWS * this.squareSize) + this.topMargin;
this.setMeasuredDimension(desiredWidth, desiredHeight);
}
And this is my XML:
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
xmlns:ads="http://schemas.android.com/apk/lib/com.google.ads"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
tools:context=".DrawLevelActivity"
android:background="#color/activity_background">
<TextView
android:id="#+id/instructionsText"
android:gravity="center"
android:paddingTop="10dp"
android:paddingBottom="10dp"
android:paddingLeft="0dp"
android:paddingRight="0dp"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" />
<com.mycanvas.BoardCanvas
android:id="#+id/boardCanvas"
android:gravity="center"
android:layout_below="#+id/instructionsText"
android:layout_centerVertical="true"
android:padding="0dp"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" />
<Button
android:id="#+id/solveButton"
android:gravity="center"
android:paddingTop="10dp"
android:paddingBottom="10dp"
android:paddingLeft="30dp"
android:paddingRight="30dp"
android:layout_below="#+id/boardCanvas"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"/>
<com.google.ads.AdView
xmlns:googleads="http://schemas.android.com/apk/lib/com.google.ads"
android:id="#+id/adView"
android:gravity="center"
android:paddingTop="0dp"
android:paddingBottom="0dp"
android:paddingLeft="0dp"
android:paddingRight="0dp"
android:layout_alignParentBottom="true"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
googleads:adSize="BANNER"
googleads:adUnitId="#string/admob_id" />
</RelativeLayout>
Unfortunately the button appear under the banner and I think that the reason is that the canvas is very large.
The set value in onMeasure() is always smaller than MeasureSpec.getSize(heightMeasureSpec)
The key here is to use a LinearLayout setting a layout_weight value just for your canvas. This way, the top and above views will wrap their content, and the canvas will fill the free space. The layout xml would look like this.-
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical" >
<TextView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="50dp"
android:gravity="center_vertical|center_horizontal"
android:background="#990099"
android:text="Some text here" />
<RelativeLayout
android:id="#+id/canvas"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:background="#999900"
android:layout_weight="1">
<!-- The canvas -->
</RelativeLayout>
<Button
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="Button" />
<RelativeLayout
android:id="#+id/banner"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="100dp"
android:background="#009999">
<!-- The banner -->
</RelativeLayout>
</LinearLayout>
Notice I set some hardcoded heights and colors so that you can easily see the results. This layout will render a view like this.-
I need to apply a translation animation to an ImageView, this ImageView is positioned at certain place and i need to animate it to the center of the screen. Here is my translate xml code, but it doesn't animate the ImageView to the center.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

Have a look at this question. I gave a similar answer but the animation is not from an xml but from code. Hope it helps.
EDIT:
Your problem is that the animation doesn't take into account the image dimensions. The animation is centering the origin coordinate of your ImageView.
I still suggest my solution.
I tried the code in the answer that I linked and it works. Just copy this function:
private void moveViewToScreenCenter( View view )
{
RelativeLayout root = (RelativeLayout) findViewById( R.id.WelcomeLayout );
DisplayMetrics dm = new DisplayMetrics();
this.getWindowManager().getDefaultDisplay().getMetrics( dm );
int statusBarOffset = dm.heightPixels - root.getMeasuredHeight();
int originalPos[] = new int[2];
view.getLocationOnScreen( originalPos );
int xDest = dm.widthPixels/2;
xDest -= (view.getMeasuredWidth()/2);
int yDest = dm.heightPixels/2 - (view.getMeasuredHeight()/2) - statusBarOffset;
TranslateAnimation anim = new TranslateAnimation( 0, xDest - originalPos[0] , 0, yDest - originalPos[1] );
anim.setDuration(1000);
anim.setFillAfter( true );
view.startAnimation(anim);
}
and call it passing your view as the parameter:
ImageView img1 = (ImageView) findViewById( R.id.welcome_innovaLogo );
moveViewToScreenCenter(img1);
If your image still disappear, maybe is because it is behind your other widgets, like the ListView. If that is the case, reestructure your xml layout definig the ImageView at the end, just after the Listview (just cut and paste the ImageView).
For future updates...
Apply view property animation to move position of widget. Image view in this case
int layoutWidth = parentLayout.getWidth();
layoutWidth = ((int) layoutWidth / 2) - (imageView.getWidth()) ;
Log.d(TAG, " position - " + layoutWidth);
imageView.animate()
.translationX(-layoutWidth)
.translationY(0)
.setDuration(500)
.setInterpolator(new LinearInterpolator())
.start();
Try adding delay to this code.
new android.os.Handler().postDelayed(
new Runnable() {
public void run() {
moveViewToScreenCenter( view );
}
},
1000);
I have a list of articles in a listView with text on the left, and an image on the right. If the article doesn't have an image, I'd like the text to go full-width (as opposed to having a marginRight of 60dp).
My noob-java thought process is: I'm already looping through and checking if there's an image... (if there is one, I change which image shows up) within that loop, can I somehow use java to alter the XML of my view to add or remove the imageView and add or remove the margin?
The code I'm using to repeat through and alter the image:
ImageLoader imageLoader = ImageLoader.getInstance();
imageLoader.displayImage("", viewHolder.thumbView); //clears previous one
if(article.filepath != null && article.filepath.length() != 0) {
imageLoader.displayImage(
"http://img.mysite.com/processes/resize.php?image=" + article.filepath + "&size=100&quality=70",
viewHolder.thumbView
);
}
My "article_entry_list_adapter.xml":
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<!-- Layout for individual news entries in a list -->
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:padding="10dp" >
<!-- Title of the news entry -->
<TextView
android:id="#+id/article_title"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_marginRight="60dp"
android:textSize="13sp"
android:textStyle="bold"
android:textColor="#drawable/list_title_selector" android:typeface="serif"/>
<!-- Subtitle contains author and date -->
<TextView
android:id="#+id/article_subtitle"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_marginRight="60dp"
android:layout_alignLeft="#id/article_title"
android:layout_below="#id/article_title"
android:textSize="11sp"
android:textColor="#drawable/list_subtitle_selector" />
<com.sltrib.views.WebImageView
android:id="#+id/article_thumbnail"
android:layout_width="50dp"
android:layout_height="50dp"
android:adjustViewBounds="true"
android:layout_alignParentRight="true"
android:background="#color/super_light_gray"
android:padding="1dp"
android:scaleType="centerCrop" android:cropToPadding="true"/>
</RelativeLayout>
I would suggest changing your xml layout to something like this:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:padding="10dp" >
<!-- Title of the news entry -->
<com.sltrib.views.WebImageView
android:id="#+id/article_thumbnail"
android:layout_width="50dp"
android:layout_height="50dp"
android:layout_alignParentRight="true"
android:adjustViewBounds="true"
android:background="#color/super_light_gray"
android:cropToPadding="true"
android:padding="1dp"
android:scaleType="centerCrop"
/>
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_marginRight="5dip"
android:layout_toLeftOf="#id/article_thumbnail"
android:orientation="vertical" >
<TextView
android:id="#+id/article_title"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="Titol"
android:textColor="#drawable/list_title_selector"
android:textSize="13sp"
android:textStyle="bold"
android:typeface="serif" />
<TextView
android:id="#+id/article_subtitle"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="Subtitol"
android:textColor="#drawable/list_subtitle_selector"
android:textSize="11sp" />
</LinearLayout>
Then, when there is no image, just set the WebImageView visibility to GONE and the text will take the parent's width.
With your example:
viewHolder.thumbView.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE); //to show the image
viewHolder.thumbView.setVisibility(View.GONE); //to hide the image
You can either alter your viewGroup (setting visibility of your imageView to GONE and adding a margin programmatically) or choose to inflate another xml. As you want to do =)
Just while looping setVisiblity(VIEW.Gone) of article_thumbnail.
TextView textView = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.textView1);
LinearLayout.LayoutParams llp = new LinearLayout.LayoutParams(LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT, LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT);
llp.setMargins(50, 0, 0, 0); // llp.setMargins(left, top, right, bottom);
textView.setLayoutParams(llp);
