The version of Jenkins I am using seems to not be correctly picking up the value for Java Home that I am setting as a Global Variable
if I run a clean install on my pom as a Pre Build Step - it picks up the Java Home variable that I set
If I run a clean install on my pom as a Build step - it picks up another version of Java on my linux box thats not set as Java Home
I have tried a few things including deleting the version of Java that the Build Step is picking up but to no avail. For now I will execute my build as a Pre Build step until I have figured out the problem
The version of jenkins I am using is Jenkins ver. 1.565.3
Have you configured the JDK installation under Manage Jenkins Global Configuration?
Have you configured your maven job to use that particular JDK? (If you have just one, it will always use that one)
Jenkins will install and maintain it's own JDK, independent of what you have pre-installed on the operating system

When I run mvn clean test, it gives me the following error:
'mvn' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."
This is the link of my project.
I can run the tests by right-clicking on the Runner.java => Run as => JUnit Test. I can also run the tests from the JUnit 4 Test Explorer Tab.
I have read some articles where it's suggesting to set the PATH for Maven but all of them are about the case where you are installing Maven separately. I am not sure what PATH do I need to set when Maven is coming with Eclipse.
I did not install Maven separately, it came with my Eclipse version.
My Eclipse Version :
Eclipse IDE for Java Developers
Version: 2019-03 (4.11.0)
Build id: 20190314-1200
Some IDEs (IntelliJ for example) have their own version of maven for internal purpose. But it doesn't mean that's able to be used by the command line. If you want to compile your project using mvn clean install/package/deploy/test/etc you must install maven in your machine and set de VARs in the OS.
I guess Eclipse has the same behavior that Intellij, so please also install maven in your machine
This error means that Windows cannot find an executable program called "mvn". This means it is not on your path/current directory.
When you right click and run your junit tests, it invokes it using the JVM, using the java command. I suspect if you type "java -v" into CMD, it will not give you the same error.
Since Windows does not know where to look for maven, you must tell it implicitly, by setting your path to the directory containing the mvn executable. You can lookup "eclipse bundled maven default location" to find this, although it might be worth downloading it separately from the Apache website, and manually specifying the path.
I am struggling to get a simple maven project running on Jenkins, which runs on my new Ubuntu server (16.04.)
I have installed Jenkins onto an Ubuntu, installed Maven and JDK.
I can connect to bitbucket and access my remote repository and get hold of my code. However, when I try to build I get the message
cannot run program "mvn" (in directory "/var/snap/jenkins/workspace/project") no such file or directory
I have added $JAVA_HOME and $MAVEN_HOME to my /etc/environment as variables and also into my path.
I have looked at the Global Tool Configuration, but this seems to be no help.
When I set the Maven installer to point at Maven home I get a message
/usr/share/maven is not a directory on the jenkins master
When I try to get Jenkins to install maven for me I get
Failed to install <truncated>apache-maven-3.5.3.bin.zip to /var/snap/jenkins/6/tools
...
Caused by: java.security.InvalidAlgorithmParameterException: the trustAnchors parameter must not be empty
I think I have hit a dead end. What could I be missing, or how can I get past these obstacles ?
Many Thanks
Go to Manage Jenkins -> Global Tool Configuration. I always elect to have Jenkins install and manage Maven, vs install and bring my own.
It has taken a long time to get to the bottom of this.
By default the
sudo apt-get install jenkins
seems to install a Snap version of Jenkins.
This snap version holds data in different locations (which is why I struggled to find the initialAdminpassword
Additionally, the snap setup only has a JRE, which cannot be overridden to a JDK, and therefore does not seem to work properly with Maven.
Eventually, I completely uninstalled Jenkins, and then followed the instructions on the official Jenkins site:
https://pkg.jenkins.io/debian-stable/
This overrides the base apt-get packages, and points to the jenkins.io packages.
From here on in, it all behaved as per the documentation.
I have a master/slave setup running on Windows 2008 RC2. The master doesn't really do anything other than being a master.
The slave I have then runs the build, which works fine for maven projects (Jenkins maven projects). If I create a free-style project I cannot run mvn.bat using a maven target. The exception is that mvn.bat cannot be resolved (path not found).
Maven is installed on the slave through the master, that is, maven was pushed onto the slave through the "install maven" feature.
Does anyone have an idea as to how I can resolve this? I'm using the interface for installing as I do not have access to the system through e.g. remote desktop. Thus I can upgrade/change the maven version for one or more projects, so a system property does not solve my problem on the long run.
As Slav wrote, using "Default" as Maven Version will find what is installed on the operating system (that is, somewhere on the system path).
The solution is to select a version and not "Default". I have installed Maven 3.0.5 using the Jenkins installed, selecting this version fixed the issue. Or you could setup the path on the system, but this requires access to the server (which I do not have, only the web interface).
I'm learning how to build Jmeter with Eclipse.
I followed some online steps and downloaded Jmeter binary and source files, unzipped them into the same directory, created a java project in eclipse and used ant build but when i build i got the following error
\workspace\apache-jmeter-2.11\build.xml:801: Class not found: javac1.8
I'm using JRE8, JDK1.8 and ant 1.9.4.
Saw some similar post with answers saying that this is an issue with ant version < 1.9 but i'm already using ant 1.9.4.
Help please.
As that is a problem encountered with versions of Ant which are not compliant with Java 8, I suggest you check your Ant configuration. Go to your Eclipse settings and check it. Then, check your project settings, maybe you have project-specific settings which override your general Eclipse settings.
In the settings, you can choose which Ant install you want to use. By default, Eclipse is using it's own, which is probably not the last available. If you have installed Ant 1.9.4, you should select "External installation" or something, with the version of Ant you installed.

I recently tried to use maven-release-plugin since it is apparently the recommended way of building and packages releases in the Maven universe.
However I wanted to use this within Eclipse, as the rest of my development workflow is Eclipse based. I normally run Maven commands via the m2eclipse plugin provided as part of Eclipse Juno (4.2)
I noticed a few oddities when I tried to run "release:prepare" within Eclipse:
Some extra files were created in the root project directory - "pom.xml.releaseBackup" and "release.properties". Do they really belong there? Have I got the release directories set up correctly? I wouldn't really consider these temporary artifacts as part of my source code tree......
The pom.xml gets manually overwritten with the updated release number. Eclipse warns you and is happy to reload the updated version - but is this generally safe?
The prepare ultimately fails giving the error [ERROR] Failed to execute goal org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-release-plugin:2.0:prepare (default-cli) on project clisk: Failed to invoke Maven build. Error configuring command-line. Reason: Maven executable not found at: C:\Users\Mike\git\clisk\EMBEDDED\bin\mvn.bat -> [Help 1] - presumably because I am using the built-in Maven excetable provided by m2eclipse rather than the command line. I guess I could install command line maven as well.... but is that sensible or will it just cause more problems?
Given these kind of issues, Is there a way to get maven-release-plugin to work smoothly within Eclipse, or should I just give up and continue to do releases manually?
I have been using release plugin, but only from command line.
Re. 1. The backup files that release plugin creates are needed if something goes wrong in time of preparing the release. You can always rollback the prepared release using release:rollback command. When you do release:perform they will be deleted.
Re. 2. The plugin changes the version number from snapshot version for example: 0.0.1-SNAPSHOT: to release version: 0.0.1. Then after release:perform release version is moved to the maven repository and release plugin changes version again to 0.0.2-SNAPSHOT. Now you can use you full released (tested) version in your testing or production enviornment and snapshot version for developping purposes.
Re. 3. I don't know what is causing the problem, but I don't see the problem by using release plugin from command line.
Also mvn 3.3.3 installs a mvn.cmd file, instead of a mvn.bat file in Windows.
You should copy mvn.cmd to mvn.bat
Well i know this link is OLD , but to help some on who reffers this link for the issue 3.
Install maven separately on to local Box and give the path of the installation under Windows->Preferences--> maven--> Installation. Also you have to define the same in the run configuration within the Eclipse.
Attached is a link that explains the same.
http://maven.40175.n5.nabble.com/Build-Failure-prepare-release-td510949.html
You might be able to overcome the error you mention by installing command line Maven and configure Eclipse to use that rather than the embedded one by choosing Window -> Preferences -> Maven -> Installations, but I agree with the advice of making your releases outside Eclipse.
