In have a progress bar spinner that appears once the login button is clicked, I would like the elements behind the spinner to dim or darken while the spinner is visible on the screen. My layout file looks like this currently:
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:paddingBottom="#dimen/activity_vertical_margin"
android:paddingLeft="#dimen/activity_horizontal_margin"
android:paddingRight="#dimen/activity_horizontal_margin"
android:paddingTop="#dimen/activity_vertical_margin"
tools:context="apps.kusasa.biz.MainActivity" >
<EditText
android:id="#+id/EditText01"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_above="#+id/editText2"
android:layout_alignLeft="#+id/editText2"
android:layout_alignRight="#+id/editText2"
android:ems="10"
android:hint="Username"
android:inputType="text" />
<EditText
android:id="#+id/editText2"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_above="#+id/loginBtn"
android:layout_centerHorizontal="true"
android:ems="10"
android:hint="Password"
android:inputType="textPassword" >
<requestFocus />
</EditText>
<Button
android:id="#+id/loginBtn"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_alignLeft="#+id/EditText01"
android:layout_alignParentBottom="true"
android:layout_alignRight="#+id/EditText01"
android:layout_marginBottom="67dp"
android:text="Login" />
<ImageView
android:id="#+id/imageView1"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_above="#+id/EditText01"
android:layout_alignParentLeft="true"
android:layout_alignParentRight="true"
android:layout_alignParentTop="true"
android:src="#drawable/pics_logo" />
<ProgressBar
android:id="#+id/progressBar1"
style="?android:attr/progressBarStyleLarge"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_above="#+id/editText2"
android:layout_centerHorizontal="true"
android:layout_marginBottom="77dp" />
</RelativeLayout>
My button click method:
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
switch (v.getId()) {
case R.id.loginBtn:
spinner.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE);
// etc
}
}
How do I achieve this? Thanks!
This will be tough when your spinner is in the same layout as the elements that you would like to dim. I would move the spinner to a separately (parent) layout and then apply a background color with an alpha channel to the relativelayout.
For example #99000000
What I did was creating a custom dialog, which has only the progress bar (instead of a complete dialog as view):
class ProgressBarDialog(context: Context) : Dialog(context) {
override fun onCreate(savedInstanceState: Bundle?) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState)
requestWindowFeature(Window.FEATURE_NO_TITLE)
setContentView(R.layout.progress_bar_dialog)
setCancelable(false)
this.window.setBackgroundDrawable(ColorDrawable(Color.TRANSPARENT))
}
override fun onBackPressed() {
// do nothing
}
}
The view (progress_bar_dialog.xml):
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:background="#android:color/transparent">
<ProgressBar
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_centerInParent="true" />
</RelativeLayout>
That's it. The dimmed background is given (by the Dialog() it extends) and by setting setCancelable(false) and overriding the onBackPressed() method the user can't dismiss it until waiting is over.
You just need to use it in your activity:
var mMyProgressBarDialog = ProgressBarDialog()
and then call mMyProgressBarDialog.show() when you need it to appear and mMyProgressBarDialog.dismiss() when you need it to disappear.
Hope this helps.

I have a bottomsheet implemented in my app. I used inflater to show the bottomsheet dialog, here is my code in NewSignUpActivity to show the bottomsheet dialog.
class NewSignUpActivity : AppCompatActivity() {
private lateinit var btnBottomSheet: RelativeLayout
override fun onCreate(savedInstanceState: Bundle?) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState)
setContentView(R.layout.activity_rider_or_bike)
btnBottomSheet = findViewById(R.id.riderBtn)
val bottomSheetCallback = object : BottomSheetBehavior.BottomSheetCallback(){
override fun onStateChanged(bottomSheet: View, newState: Int) {}
override fun onSlide(bottomSheet: View, slideOffset: Float) {}
}
val bottomSheetView = layoutInflater.inflate(R.layout.layout_bottom_sheet, null)
val bottomSheetDialog = BottomSheetDialog(this)
bottomSheetDialog.setContentView(bottomSheetView)
val bottomSheetBehavior = BottomSheetBehavior.from(bottomSheetView.parent as View)
bottomSheetBehavior.setBottomSheetCallback(bottomSheetCallback)
btnBottomSheet.setOnClickListener {
bottomSheetBehavior.state = BottomSheetBehavior.STATE_EXPANDED
bottomSheetDialog.show()
}
}
}
Here's how it looks like in view.
As you can see, there's button on the bottomsheet I want to navigate to another layout activity once I clicked the YES button, how can I do that? I am very new to android development using Kotlin.
EDITED: Added my XML file for bottomsheet dialog please see below._ name of file is layout_bottom_sheet.xml

Already the BottomSheetView layout is inflated with:
val bottomSheetView = layoutInflater.inflate(R.layout.layout_bottom_sheet, null)
And this layout hosts the YES button, so you can just use findViewById(). Assuming that the id of the YES button is btn_yes:
val btnYes = bottomSheetView.findViewById<Button>(R.id.btn_yes)
btnYes.setOnClickListener {
startActivity(myIntent) // Add your activity intent
}
UPDATE:
As you provided the id of the YES button which is yellowBtn, then you can use it:
val btnYes = bottomSheetView.findViewById<Button>(R.id.yellowBtn)
btnYes.setOnClickListener {
startActivity(myIntent) // Add your activity intent
}

I set onclick on FrameLayout and LinearLayout, i wanna show log is status but when i touch it, nothing happen.
And then, i set android:layout_width="1dp", android:layout_height="1dp" of id: status_bar_all_contents, it show log: status, but status_bar_all_contents will gone, so i dont want that.
So how to fix when i touch it and show log status?
Ps: Sorry for my english is not good.
Layouts typically pass-through clicks to their children.
You can try this solution here disabling all children onclicks and enabling the FrameLaoyuts onclicks. But I don't think that will work with the LinearLayout on top of that.
Android frame layout click listener not working
My advice wrap the entire view in a ConstraintLayout, and position 2 basic <View>s
One <View> that is constrained to match the FrameLayout
One <View> that is constrained to match the LinearLayout
These <View>s will act as overlays.
<View
android:id="#+id/status_bar_overlay"
app:layout_constraintEnd_toEndOf="#id/status_bar"
app:layout_constraintStart_toStartOf="#id/status_bar"
app:layout_constraintTop_toTopOf="#id/status_bar"
app:layout_constraintBottom_toBottomOf="#id/status_bar" />
<View
android:id="#+id/status_bar_all_contents_overlay"
app:layout_constraintEnd_toEndOf="#id/status_bar_all_contents"
app:layout_constraintStart_toStartOf="#id/status_bar_all_contents"
app:layout_constraintTop_toTopOf="#id/status_bar_all_contents"
app:layout_constraintBottom_toBottomOf="#id/status_bar_all_contents" />
Set the two View's onClickListener in the Activity and there you go.
I am having trouble getting the Toolbar and TabLayout to hide when I scroll up. I have 3 different xml files: 1) Toolbar, 2) TabLayoutFragment (here I have the TabLayout and ViewPager, and I include the toolbar here, and 3) HomeFragment (contains the RecyclerView). I need for the Toolbar to hide when I scroll up, and I have seen in many other posts that most people use a CoordinatorLayout instead of a Relative Layout or Linear Layout, and then they have to add app:layout_scrollFlags="scroll|enterAlways" which I have done, but I still can't get the Toolbar to hide when scrolling the RecyclerView up.
I've also added this to the RecyclerView, but still nothing... app:layout_behavior="#string/appbar_scrolling_view_behavior"
Could someone point out what is missing here?

You can make it programmatically by adding the addOnScrollListener method.
On the RecyclerView.SCROLL_STATE_DRAGGING method hide the toolbar and TabLayout and on RecyclerView.SCROLL_STATE_IDLE method you can show it again if you want to show them again.
You can try it in such way:
recyclerview.addOnScrollListener(new RecyclerView.OnScrollListener() {
#Override
public void onScrollStateChanged(RecyclerView recyclerView, int newState) {
if (newState == RecyclerView.SCROLL_STATE_IDLE) {
// Show your view again.. If you want to show them..
} else if (newState == RecyclerView.SCROLL_STATE_DRAGGING) {
// Hide your view..
}
super.onScrollStateChanged(recyclerView, newState);
}});
Or You can use recycler view's addOnScrollListener method:
Refer: addOnScrollListener
recyclerView.addOnScrollListener(new RecyclerView.OnScrollListener() {
#Override
public void onScrolled(RecyclerView recyclerView, int dx, int dy) {
if (dy > 0) {
//Scrolling down
// Show your controllers from here
} else if (dy < 0) {
//Scrolling up
// Hide your controllers from here
}
}});
Also, you can add some animations there to show and hide your toolbar and tab layouts.
Place the toolbar and the tablayout within the ScrollView group to get the scrolling part.
<ScrollView>
<Toolbar></Toolbar>
<Tablayout></Tablayout>
</ScrollView>
I need to allow user to CLICK anywhere on the screen, so I've implemented onClick listener for mainLayout and it worked great.
But the problem is I've got to add a scrollview inside mainLayout to support small screen sizes and after adding scrollview, it blocks the parentLayout (in my case mainLayout) CLICK EVENT.
Just to exaplin this, a sample layout is as follows.
<!-- MAIN LAYOUT WHERE I NEED
THE CLICK EVENT-->
<LinearLayout
android:id="#+id/mainLayout"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:background="#bebebe"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:onClick="onClick_MainLayout">
<ScrollView
android:id="#+id/mainScrollView"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent">
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical">
<Button
android:id="#+id/button1"
android:layout_width="100dp"
android:layout_height="40dp"
android:text="TEST BUTTON 1"
android:onClick="onClick_Button1"/>
<Button
android:id="#+id/button2"
android:layout_width="100dp"
android:layout_height="40dp"
android:text="TEST BUTTON 2"
android:onClick="onClick_Button2"/>
<TextView
android:id="#+id/textview1"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="My Text View"/>
</LinearLayout>
</ScrollView>
</LinearLayout>
I searched for this and found various ideas like disableing onClick manually in all other views inside scrollview etc but non of them works.
NOTE: I tried both implementing onClick listener manually in java and adding android:onClick="onClick_MainLayout" in to layout. Both the same.
EDITS ----------------------

And in on create
findViewById(R.id.mainLayout).setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener()
{
#Override
public void onClick(View v)
{
Log.v("MyLogs", "Click Event Fires...");
}
});
Your Scroll view overlaps the linear layout i.e #mainLayout,so
set its height to wrap content
then you can perform onclick for both scroll view buttons and mainlayout.
Pls tell me if i wrong.

I only want my textview with id clickable_txtView to be clickable in relative layout. Here is the code -
<RelativeLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_gravity="center"
android:id="#android:id/empty"
android:clickable="false">
<ImageView
android:layout_width="120sp"
android:layout_height="130sp"
android:layout_centerHorizontal="true"
android:src="#drawable/flower"/>
<TextView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:gravity="center"
android:paddingTop="120sp"
android:text="Dont click me />
<TextView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:id="#+id/clickable_txtView"
android:gravity="center"
android:paddingTop="140sp"
android:clickable="true"
android:text="Click me" />
</RelativeLayout>
#OnClick(R.id.clickable_txtView)
public void txtViewClick() {
//Some event
}
Thr problem is I am able to click whole relative layout and some event happens after onclicking relative layout.
How do I avoid this and make it limited to text view only.
Your textview has an attribute android:paddingTop="140sp" which basically wraps over the entire relative layout, because of which you are having the problem with onClick behaviour.
Use this RelativeLayout structure (provide ID to the "don't click me" textview, and place the "clickable textview" below it.
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:id="#android:id/empty"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_gravity="center">
<ImageView
android:layout_width="120sp"
android:layout_height="130sp"
android:layout_centerHorizontal="true"
android:src="#mipmap/ic_launcher"
android:layout_alignParentTop="true"
/>
<TextView
android:id="#+id/do_not_click"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:gravity="center"
android:paddingTop="120sp"
android:enabled="false"
android:text="Dont click me" />
<TextView
android:id="#+id/clickable_txtView"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:clickable="true"
android:gravity="center"
android:layout_below="#id/do_not_click"
android:text="Click me" />
</RelativeLayout>
In your activity where you are inflating this view try this:
first initialize your textview
TextView textView = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.clickable_txtView);
then apply clickListner on it
textView.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
//Do your work here
}
});
I'm not sure but you can try adding below line to your parent layout
android:touchscreenBlocksFocus="true"
like
<RelativeLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_gravity="center"
android:id="#android:id/empty"
android:touchscreenBlocksFocus="true">
