ClassNotFoundException: javax.validation.ValidatorFactory - java

I am trying to run a Spring MVC application in my local machine through Tomcat, but I am seeing:
NoClassDefFoundError: javax/validation/ValidatorFactory
I have validation-api-1.0.0.GA.jar in webapp's lib folder. I am using Tomcat 7. Any guidance would be appreciated.

You have the necessary jar file you need in hibernate-validator. This jar includes the javax.validation.ValidatorFactoryvalidation-api. So if you are including validation-api explicitly, you might have dependency conflicts. If not, you might just be having class reloading issues. Try cleaning your tomcat and restarting your IDE.

add to pom.xml
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework.boot</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-boot-starter-validation</artifactId>
</dependency>

😤 I encountered the problem when I launched my tests for the first time.
The problem comes from an incompatibility between the test dependency and the validation dependency.
📝 My pom.xml:
<dependency>
<groupId>jakarta.validation</groupId>
<artifactId>jakarta.validation-api</artifactId>
<version>3.0.2</version>
</dependency>
😀 I solved the problem, I replaced jakarta.validation-api for spring-boot-starter-validation.
📝 My pom.xml:
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework.boot</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-boot-starter-validation</artifactId>
</dependency>

I had the same problem.
For 2 months i was trying to find solution.
There was a error i made.
I copied hibernate validator jar and pasted it in java installation directory.
Now i was using maven which also downloaded the validator jar.
There where two jars present and so the error arise.
The problem was solved accidentally when i reinstalled java in my system.

For me it was a conflict with jakarta.validation version 3.0.1. Rolling it back to 2.0.2 fixed it.

Include jakarta.validation-api within your project jar file , and that will force Tomcat to use it. in pom.xml add scope provided as follows:
<dependency>
<groupId>jakarta.validation</groupId>
<artifactId>jakarta.validation-api</artifactId>
<version>3.0.2</version>
<scope>provided</scope>
</dependency>
good luck.

java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError when marking a jar as provided

I have the follwing dependency in my webapp:
<!-- swagger -->
<dependency>
<groupId>com.mangofactory</groupId>
<artifactId>swagger-springmvc</artifactId>
<version>${version.swagger.springmvc}</version>
</dependency>
I want to reduce the size of the war file so I marked the swagger jar as provided:
<!-- swagger -->
<dependency>
<groupId>com.mangofactory</groupId>
<artifactId>swagger-springmvc</artifactId>
<version>${version.swagger.springmvc}</version>
<scope>provided</scope>
</dependency>
I added the swagger jar to tomcat's common lib folder so it should be provided by tomcat during runtime, but when i try to deply the app I got this exception:

I notice that the problem is comming from the org.springframework.context.annotation.ConfigurationClassPostProcessor.enhanceConfigurationClasses but i have all the spring jar required declared in my pom without the provided scope also when
running the webapp without the provided scope it work fine any idea?
I think the issue comes from another missing jar.
In the stacktrace we see
Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.fasterxml.classmate.TypeResolver
The com.fasterxml.classmate.TypeResolver is present in the jar classmate.jar, which is a dependency from swagger-springmvc.
When you use scope compile, the dependencies of swagger-springmvc are deployed as well.
With scope provided, you have to provide the swagger-springmvc jar, but also all its dependencies. Here, you need to provided classmate.jar.

You need to add Hibernate dependency to your project.
Basically, you need to add one of these jars:
http://www.jarfinder.com/index.php/java/info/org.hibernate.HibernateException
Here is how to do it from Eclipse:

How would i run test case in Intellij. I included the junit4.11 jar file to my module
Did you include the hamcrest-core-1.3.jar file in your classpath? If not included means include that jar and try once again.
add junit.jar to your project dependence.
you may also need to add hamcrest.jar in addition.
Open File->Project Structure,Click Modules->Dependences,add junit.jar.
Latest version of hamcrest-all is available at:
https://search.maven.org/search?q=a:hamcrest-all
Download this version (as opposed to the hamcrest-core) and that should do it.
If you come across this (and a few other threads) on this error and adding the jar to dependencies doesn't work, you will need to add to the general java classpath.
I encountered this error in OSX where maven would download the dependency, but not find it when in fork mode.
Adding all the hamcrest jars to Library/Java/Extensions finally fixed the problem when nothing else would.

You also need to include the Log4J JAR file in the classpath.
Note that slf4j-log4j12-1.6.4.jar is only an adapter to make it possible to use Log4J via the SLF4J API. It does not contain the actual implementation of Log4J.
You need to download log4j and add in your classpath.
In my environment, I just added the two files to class path. And is work fine.
slf4j-jdk14-1.7.25.jar
slf4j-api-1.7.25.jar
