`Nullpointer within io.restassured.internal.support.PathSupport` when using given.post()

I'm building an integration-test using restAssured and Junit, and when calling the following code:

but I can't for the life of me figure out why! I've set a breakpoint on the line that throws and observed the input to that method, it turns out it is called many more times than I would expect from this test (the method concatenates 2 parts of a url) and the input that is actually defined in this failing test is processed without error. But then it is for some reason called a bunch of more times, on of which, invariably contains a null parameter and thus fails. Googling suggested there might be dependency-conflicts within my project, but I have been unable to find any.
To clarify, I'm not asking what a Nullpointer is, of that I am perfectly aware. Rather, it's the inner workings of rest-assured that has me confused.The nullpointer is merely the manifestation of my lacking understanding of this library's innards :)

I had the same problem.
I could fix it by removing .baseUri("localhost:9000") and use .port(9000) to set the port.

While running JUnitTest task in Gradle I'm getting the following error. The root cause which I found is DaoConfig.java unable to resolve the path to the resource file dao.xml which is in the same folder as DaoConfig.java. When I run the Junit test from the eclipse IDE I'm not getting any error like that. I am able to successfully execute test.

Gradle distinguishes between sources and resources. Sources are by default placed under src/main/java and resources under src/main/resources. When building Gradle creates class files from the sources and places it under build/classes and it copies the content of the resources to build/resources. When executing the tests the resources are mirrored into the class path. What it usually not do is to copy files from the sources directories. I guess your xml file is placed in the sources and Gradle sees no need to copy it. Without having more information that is all what can be said.

Steps I have taken to isolate the issue:
Try different JDK versions (JDK 1.7, 1.8)
Restart the machine and remove global JAVA_HOME
Try running the unit test without the IDE

First I thought my classes are not enhanced, but as the first line mentions, the classes are subclasses, as I'm don't using the java agent to do the enhancing.

The solution could be found in the last answer here by Dominik java.lang.VerifyError: Expecting a stackmap frame. Just set -XX:-UseSplitVerifier.
PS: Tried to use Enhancement as mentioned here Is a method in a JPA entity allowed to throw an Exception? by Rick and here http://openjpa.208410.n2.nabble.com/Fwd-org-apache-openjpa-persistence-PersistenceException-null-td7584865.html but faced a couple of hurdles. The first was overcame by the recipe above, but the second is arguably a bug https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/OPENJPA-1879 when using enhancement with Eclipse.
The trace reads like this.
