Android: How to implement an ArrayList with holidays dates - java

I'm developing application that in one of its activity has the mechanism that calculates workdays between two dates:
package com.example.salary;
import java.text.SimpleDateFormat;
import java.util.Calendar;
import java.util.Locale;
import android.app.Activity;
import android.app.DatePickerDialog;
import android.content.Intent;
import android.content.SharedPreferences;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.view.View;
import android.view.View.OnClickListener;
import android.widget.Button;
import android.widget.DatePicker;
import android.widget.EditText;
import android.widget.Toast;
public class CountingWorkDays extends Activity {
static Calendar start_calendar = Calendar.getInstance();
static Calendar end_calendar = Calendar.getInstance();
EditText et_start;
EditText et_end;
Button count;
Button save_days;
static int workDays = 0;
static int totalDays = 0;
int dni_robocze = 0;
Calendar start_calendar_save = Calendar.getInstance();
Calendar end_calendar_save = Calendar.getInstance();
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.przeliczanie_dni_roboczych);
gather_start_date();
gather_end_date();
after_clicking_count();
after_clicking_save();
}

String myFormat = "dd/MM/yy";
SimpleDateFormat date = new SimpleDateFormat(myFormat, Locale.UK);
edittext.setText(date.format(myCalendar.getTime()));
}

Calendar.DAY_OF_MONTH, 1)) {
totalDays++;
if (start_calendar.get(Calendar.DAY_OF_WEEK) != Calendar.SATURDAY
&& start_calendar.get(Calendar.DAY_OF_WEEK) != Calendar.SUNDAY) {
workDays++;
}
}
start_calendar.add(Calendar.DAY_OF_MONTH, -1 * totalDays);
Toast.makeText(PrzeliczanieDniRoboczych.this,
"Workday is this period are: " + workDays,
Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
}
return workDays;
}
}
I would like to add the mechanism that will allow user to insert dates of holidays (this aplication will calculate the salary and holidays means no salary, so it's important).
As I saw here, user SimplyPanda suggested adding an ArrayList<Integer> to do so. However, I wondering how the inserting by user should look like.
Should user know the integer representation of particular dates in Java? - I guess no.
Does anyone have any idea how to implement such functionality?

Error coverting Integer variables to Date Object and value returned is always 31-DEC - 1?

I have written this line of code of code:
dateSelected = new GregorianCalendar(tempYear, tempMonth, tempDate,tempHour,tempMinute).getTime();
I got these value from datepicker and timepicker dialogs in android. I am able to get correct values in these integer variables but when I convert them to Date object it will always be 31 dec. I am not able to fix the problem.
I have also tried this approach as well:
Calendar calendar = Calendar.getInstance();
calendar.set(tempYear, tempMonth, tempDate, tempHour, tempMinute);
dateSelected = calendar.getTime();
Whenever Second line is commented out it is working fine. I am perfectly getting current date and time. But when it is uncommented the problem returns.
In case anyone needs my full code:
package com.bignerdranch.android.todolistwithdate;
/**********************************************

* ToDo list item to the list.

#Override

super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_add_to_do);
entryName = (EditText)findViewById(R.id.new_todo_edittext);
dateSelectionButton = (Button)findViewById(R.id.date_selection_button);
addEntry = (Button)findViewById(R.id.entry_add_button);
timeSelectionButton = (Button)findViewById(R.id.time_selection_button);
//Create date selection Dialog here
//Also add code for modifying dateSelected Variable
dateSelectionButton.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
DialogFragment datePickerDialog = new DatePickerFragment() {
#Override
public void onDateSet(DatePicker view, int year, int monthOfYear, int dayOfMonth) {
super.onDateSet(view, year, monthOfYear, dayOfMonth);
dateSelectionButton.setText(Integer.toString(dayOfMonth) + "/" + Integer.toString(monthOfYear + 1) + "/" + Integer.toString(year));
tempDate = dayOfMonth;
tempMonth = monthOfYear;
tempYear = year;
}
};
datePickerDialog.show(getSupportFragmentManager(), "datePicker");
}
});
timeSelectionButton.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
DialogFragment timePickerDialog = new TimePickerFragment() {
#Override
public void onTimeSet(TimePicker view, int hourOfDay, int minute) {
super.onTimeSet(view, hourOfDay, minute);
timeSelectionButton.setText(Integer.toString(hourOfDay) + ":" + Integer.toString(minute));
tempHour = hourOfDay;
tempMinute = minute;
}
};
timePickerDialog.show(getSupportFragmentManager(), "timePicker");
}
});
//Work here to get calendar working properly
Calendar calendar = Calendar.getInstance();
calendar.set(tempYear, tempMonth, tempDate, tempHour, tempMinute);
dateSelected = calendar.getTime();
entryName = (EditText)findViewById(R.id.new_todo_edittext);
addEntry = (Button)findViewById(R.id.entry_add_button);
addEntry.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
nameToDoItem = entryName.getText().toString();
Intent resultIntent = new Intent();
resultIntent.putExtra("NameOfItem", nameToDoItem);
resultIntent.putExtra("DateOfItem", dateSelected);
setResult(Activity.RESULT_OK, resultIntent);
Log.i("Date: ", dateSelected.toString() );
finish();
}
});
}
}
When the code works all variables equal to 0 because a user doesn't pick a date and a time at the moment.
Calendar calendar = Calendar.getInstance();
calendar.set(tempYear, tempMonth, tempDate, tempHour, tempMinute);
dateSelected = calendar.getTime();
Move the code in addEntry's onClickListener implementation and it will work 👍

Android TimePickerDialog. app crashes when setting time more than current time

My app getting crash when I try to set the time more than the current time.
Please solve my problem.
The current time is working fine but the app is crashing when I select time more than current time.

Set the time in calendar in showTime() method as follows:
public void showTime() {
if(flag == true) {
Calendar calender = Calendar.getInstance();
myTimePicker = new TimePickerDialog(this, new OnTimeSetListener() {
public void onTimeSet(TimePicker view, int hourOfDay, int minute) {
Calendar newTime = Calendar.getInstance();
//newTime.set(hourOfDay, minute); // remove this line
//Add these two line
newTime.set(Calendar.HOUR_OF_DAY, hourOfDay);
newTime.set(Calendar.MINUTE, minute);
GotTime = GotDate + " At " + String.valueOf(hourOfDay) + " :" + String.valueOf(minute + 1);
time.setText(GotTime);
}
}, calender.get((Calendar.HOUR_OF_DAY)), calender.get(Calendar.MINUTE), true);
}
}
EDIT:
To get HourOdDay in am/pm you can do something like this:
String format = "hh:mm a"; // your own format
SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat(format, Locale.US);
String formated_time = sdf.format(newTime.getTime());
//formated_time would show you time like "hh:mm am/pm".

Java TimePicker does not return right value

In android project I have this class
package mycalories.com.jalle.mycalories;
import android.app.Dialog;
import android.app.DialogFragment;
import android.app.TimePickerDialog;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.text.format.DateFormat;
import android.text.format.Time;
import android.widget.TimePicker;
import java.util.Calendar;
public class TimePickerFragment extends DialogFragment implements
TimePickerDialog.OnTimeSetListener {
public static interface OnTimeSetListener {
void onTimeSet(Time time);
}
private OnTimeSetListener onTimeSetListener;
#Override
public Dialog onCreateDialog(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
final Calendar c = Calendar.getInstance();
int hour = c.get(Calendar.HOUR_OF_DAY);
int minute = c.get(Calendar.MINUTE);
return new TimePickerDialog(getActivity(), this, hour, minute,
DateFormat.is24HourFormat(getActivity()));
}
public void onTimeSet(TimePicker view, int hourOfDay, int minute) {
if (onTimeSetListener != null) {
Time newTime =new Time(hourOfDay+":"+minute+ "");
onTimeSetListener.onTimeSet(newTime);
}
}
public void setOnTimeSetListener(OnTimeSetListener onTimeSetListener) {
this.onTimeSetListener = onTimeSetListener;
}
}
that should return Time selected. And in the main activity I have button and a text field:
Button btnTime = (Button) findViewById(R.id.btnTime);
btnTime.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
public void onClick(View v) {
TimePickerFragment timePicker = new TimePickerFragment();
timePicker.show(getFragmentManager(), "timePicker");
timePicker.setOnTimeSetListener(new OnTimeSetListener() {
#Override
public void onTimeSet(Time time) {
// SimpleDateFormat HHMM = new SimpleDateFormat("hh:mm");
final EditText txtTime = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.txtTime);
txtTime.setText(time.toString());
}
});
}
});
After selecting time I should have in format hh:mm but instead I got 19700101T00000011:55(4,0,0,0,0)
(obviously current time is not selected but default one)
I guess that the method onTimeSetis not right. Any idea ?
And one more q : How do I use same TimePicker class for multiple textboxes in diff activities ?
Time API has 3 constructors: no argument, String argument, and other Time argument. The constructor you are using, which is the String one, only accepts timezone as the expected value, and it will set the date to Jan 1, 1970.
public Time (String timezone)
Construct a Time object in the timezone named by
the string argument "timezone". The time is initialized to Jan 1,
1970.
If you want to return the Time with today's date and selected time, try changing the code to
public void onTimeSet(TimePicker view, int hourOfDay, int minute) {
if (onTimeSetListener != null) {
Time newTime = new Time();
newTime.setToNow();
newTime.hour = hourOfDay;
newTime.minute = minute;
onTimeSetListener.onTimeSet(newTime);
}
}
Knowing that you eventually want to display the time in hh:mm format, it would be easier to implement your interface method using the java.util.Date class, which SimpleDateFormat "plays nice" with. In the TimePickerFragment class, change the following:
public static interface OnTimeSetListener {
void onTimeSet(Date date);
}
public void onTimeSet(TimePicker view, int hourOfDay, int minute) {
if (onTimeSetListener != null) {
Date date = new Date();
date.setHours(hourOfDay);
date.setMinutes(minute);
onTimeSetListener.onTimeSet(date);
}
}
And in the onClick() method:
public void onClick(View v)
{
TimePickerFragment timePicker = new TimePickerFragment();
timePicker.show(getFragmentManager(), "timePicker");
timePicker.setOnTimeSetListener(new TimePickerFragment.OnTimeSetListener() {
#Override
public void onTimeSet(Date date)
{
final EditText txtTime = (EditText) findViewById(R.id. txtTime);
SimpleDateFormat HHMM = new SimpleDateFormat("hh:mm");
txtTime.setText(HHMM.format(date));
}
}
);
}

Can anybody help?
li.inflate(R.id.footerView, getListView());
You cannot inflate ids, only layouts.
Replace R.id.footerView with R.layout.your_footer_view_layout.
Also, you probably want to capture the inflated View to some variable to actually use it later.
Try this:
//Inflate footerView for footer_view.xml file
TextView footerView = (TextView) getLayoutInflater().inflate(R.layout.footer_view, null);
You should replace setTag(). Change
priorityView.setTag(toDoItem.getPriority());
to
priorityView.setText(toDoItem.getPriority().ToString());
