Android App crashes on Lollipop - java

hi I am using google license checker on my app it works on API 19 and below but crashes on lollipop. I saw the code that has to be add to my license check code but I don't know where to put this code or what should I edit. here is my code

}
and here is the other code which I got that this can solve my problem. but don't know where to put it.
Intent serviceIntent = new Intent(
new String(Base64.decode("Y29tLmFuZHJvaWQudmVuZGluZy5saWNlbnNpbmcuSUxpY2Vuc2luZ1NlcnZpY2U=")));
serviceIntent.setPackage("com.android.vending");
boolean bindResult = mContext
.bindService(
serviceIntent,
this, // ServiceConnection.
Context.BIND_AUTO_CREATE);

Waiting for an official solution, the current solution consists in patching Google's LicenseChecker class
com.google.android.vending.licensing.LicenseChecker.checkAccess(LicenseChecker.java:150)
like this:
new String(
- Base64.decode("Y29tLmFuZHJvaWQudmVuZGluZy5saWNlbnNpbmcuSUxpY2Vuc2luZ1NlcnZpY2U="))),
+ Base64.decode("Y29tLmFuZHJvaWQudmVuZGluZy5saWNlbnNpbmcuSUxpY2Vuc2luZ1NlcnZpY2U=")))
+ .setPackage("com.android.vending"), // this fix the 'IllegalArgumentException: Service Intent must be explicit'
this, // ServiceConnection.
Adding package name with statement setPackage("com.android.vending") makes the Intent explicit, i.e., 'safe' (as requested by Android Lollipop )
Note:
Please pay attention as after modifying LicenseChecker class you must change the min sdk version from 3 to 4 (thanks russellhoff)

No Activity found to handle Intent { act=android.settings.LOCALE_SETTINGS }

I am creating a code that checks for the current location, however, when I check for the current location, it crashes. I looked into Stack Trace and saw this. I read other forums but I am not familiar with their solutions. I am also a beginner in Java. I used an Amazon Fire Tablet to download this app. When I tried testing it on the emulator, the app did not crash.

Below is the code where it happened.
private void onGPS() {
final AlertDialog.Builder builder = new AlertDialog.Builder(this);
builder.setMessage("Enable GPS").setCancelable(false).setPositiveButton("YES", new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int which) {
startActivity(new Intent(Settings.ACTION_LOCALE_SETTINGS));
}
}).setNegativeButton("No", new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {
#Override

dialog.cancel();
}

final AlertDialog alertDialog = builder.create();
alertDialog.show();
}
Always use this method to start intents other than your app's -
Intent intent = new Intent(Settings.ACTION_LOCATION_SOURCE_SETTINGS);
if(intent.resolveActivity(context.getPackageManager()) != null){
startActivity(intent);
}else{
//handle activity not found
}
this way you won't get ActivityNotFoundException.
You can also use try catch as -
try {
startActivity(new Intent(Settings.ACTION_LOCATION_SOURCE_SETTINGS));
} catch (e: ActivityNotFoundException) {
//handle activity not found
}
I suppose you want to navigate to GPS settings screen.
try this.
startActivity(new Intent(Settings.ACTION_LOCATION_SOURCE_SETTINGS));
The phone/device might be missing locale settings screen altogether which leads to the crash.
Intent i = new Intent(Settings.ACTION_LOCATION_SOURCE_SETTINGS);
i.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK); //This line solve my issue
startActivity(viewIntent);

My application has a Progress Dialog for login process and when the orientation is changed while dialog box is open, app crashes.This all works fine, except when screen orientation changes while the dialog is up. At this point the app crashes. I am figuring out this issue from the last 3 nights but not able to get it, please help.

Adding OnClickListener makes app crash

I'm working on a term project and I'm new to java and android app development. I have experience in other programming languages, though. I'm trying to reverse engineer an app to make it able to connect and send data via bluetooth. I want to make a list with all the available bluetooth devices, a button to turn on/off bluetooth, one for making the phone discoverable for other devices and another to search for unpaired devices. But every time I add an OnClickListener to the onCreate method, the app crashes before it opens. Could anyone help me out?
The source code for the app I am trying to modify can be found here:
https://github.com/pazaan/600SeriesAndroidUploader
Here is the part that seems to makes it crash:
lvNewDevices.setOnItemClickListener(MainActivity.this);
btnONOFF.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View view) {
Log.d(TAG, "onClick: enabling/disabling bluetooth.");
enableDisableBT();
}
});
btnStartConnection.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View view) {
startConnection();
}
});
btnSend.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View view) {
byte[] bytes = etSend.getText().toString().getBytes(Charset.defaultCharset());
mBluetoothConnection.write(bytes);
}
});
And here is all of OnCreate:
#Override
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
Log.i(TAG, "onCreate called");
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
Button btnONOFF = (Button) findViewById(R.id.btnONOFF);
btnEnableDisable_Discoverable = (Button) findViewById(R.id.btnDiscoverable_on_off);
lvNewDevices = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.lvNewDevices);

Move the code setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
under the super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
you are mapping the views before adding layout in your code.
your onCreate() should be
#Override
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
Log.i(TAG, "onCreate called");
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
//Do mapping all views
Your Error log is showing you your solution. The project is using Fabric API. So naturally you need to add Fabric API key to your project.
Do as suggested in Error log. Add following line in Android Manifest.
<meta-data android:name="io.fabric.ApiKey" android:value="YOUR_API_KEY"/>
For your API key, make a project using Fabric account and get your API key.

Why does this code seem not to find the MainActivity?

We are writing an android based Application that tracks several Mobilephone sensors now I tried compiling the code when suddenly this happend

Have you declared this MainActivity in AndroidManifest file?
Check AndroidManifest.xml
You should see your activity within the application tag like so:
<activity android:name="com.example.max.pswi.MainActivity">
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" />
<category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" />
</intent-filter>
</activity>

AlertDialog from within BroadcastReceiver?? Can it be done?

AlertDialog from within BroadcastReceiver? Can it be done? I am working on a app that will pop up a Dialog box if I get SMS message. I am trying to code this within a BroadcaseReceiver. But I cant use this line of code AlertDialog.Builder builder = new AlertDialog.Builder(this);. Can someone please help me with a hint!
public class SMSPopUpReceiver extends BroadcastReceiver {
private static final String LOG_TAG = "SMSReceiver";
public static final int NOTIFICATION_ID_RECEIVED = 0x1221;
static final String ACTION = "android.provider.Telephony.SMS_RECEIVED";
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
Log.i(LOG_TAG, "onReceive");
if (intent.getAction().equals(SMSPopUpReceiver.ACTION)) {
StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder();
Bundle bundle = intent.getExtras();
if (bundle != null) {
Object[] pdus = (Object[]) bundle.get("pdus");
for (Object pdu : pdus){
SmsMessage messages =
SmsMessage.createFromPdu((byte[]) pdu);
sb.append("Received SMS\nFrom: ");
sb.append(messages.getDisplayOriginatingAddress());
sb.append("\n----Message----\n");
sb.append( messages.getDisplayMessageBody());
}
}
Log.i(SMSPopUpReceiver.LOG_TAG,
"[SMSApp] onReceiveIntent: " + sb);
Toast.makeText
(context, sb.toString(), Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
}
AlertDialog.Builder builder = new AlertDialog.Builder(this);
builder.setMessage("Are you sure you want to exit?")
.setCancelable(false)
.setPositiveButton("Yes", new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {
public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int id) {
dialog.cancel();
}
})
.setNegativeButton("No", new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {
public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int id) {
dialog.cancel();
}
});
AlertDialog alert = builder.create();
}
}
Principal issue: try to avoid placing time consuming functionalities into BroadcastReceiver. It should just receive and initiate further processing in bound Activity/Service.
UPDATE:
Please check following sources that might be helpful:

UPDATE2:
Added app skeleton as it should look. Please note that no content view is defined. It is because your app will have transparent screen. To achieve that
#android:style/Theme.Translucent
is entered under Theme tag for this activity in AndroidManifest.xml.
public class NotifySMSReceived extends Activity
{
private static final String LOG_TAG = "SMSReceiver";
public static final int NOTIFICATION_ID_RECEIVED = 0x1221;
static final String ACTION = "android.provider.Telephony.SMS_RECEIVED";
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
IntentFilter filter = new IntentFilter(ACTION);
this.registerReceiver(mReceivedSMSReceiver, filter);
}
private void displayAlert()
{
AlertDialog.Builder builder = new AlertDialog.Builder(this);
builder.setMessage("Are you sure you want to exit?").setCancelable(
false).setPositiveButton("Yes",
new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {
public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int id) {
dialog.cancel();
}
}).setNegativeButton("No",
new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {
public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int id) {
dialog.cancel();
}
});
AlertDialog alert = builder.create();
alert.show();
}
private final BroadcastReceiver mReceivedSMSReceiver = new BroadcastReceiver() {
#Override
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
String action = intent.getAction();
if (ACTION.equals(action))
{
//your SMS processing code
displayAlert();
}
}
};
}
I've been looking into it and the documentation of the BroadcastReceiver actually says:
public abstract void onReceive
(Context context, Intent intent)
Since: API Level 1 This method is
called when the BroadcastReceiver is
receiving an Intent broadcast. During
this time you can use the other
methods on BroadcastReceiver to
view/modify the current result values.
The function is normally called within
the main thread of its process, so you
should never perform long-running
operations in it (there is a timeout
of 10 seconds that the system allows
before considering the receiver to be
blocked and a candidate to be killed).
You cannot launch a popup dialog in
your implementation of onReceive().
You cannot launch a popup dialog in
your implementation of onReceive()
So it seems it is not possible
This is late but this may help someone.
You cannot use alert dialog inside broadcast receiver, we can use this only in activity or service. Try like this
In your onReceive method of broadcastreceiver add
Intent i = new Intent(context, yourclass.class);
i.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK);
context.startActivity(i);
and in yourclass set your dialog message, so that it will appear when you trigger the receiver event. I tried this and it worked me. Hope this may help some one :-)
you can create a new transparent activity and then create Alert Dialog in that activity, whenever your alert is to be displayed call that activity from your broadcast reciever ,this could work, not tested
replace the word "this" inside the AlertDilaog with "context" -- the first parameter on you onRecieve method.
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent)
