I'm adding 6 pictures to an array but when I add "pic_1" 6 times no error occurs. The are all ~ 200kb. The pictures are displayed in my GridView after OnClick. Sometimes I can click 3 times... sometimes only once. On my phone I can click more often.

You can add this line to application class declaration into manifest file to request a larger heap size.
android:largeHeap="true"
application class declaration in AndroidManifest.xml
<application
android:label="#string/app_name"
android:allowBackup="true"
android:icon="#drawable/title_image"
android:largeHeap="true">
</application>
This will remove your OOM crashes completely!!
The app is going out of heap size.So you have to decode the image in such a way that it will fall under the heap size.Do this code in your adapter
You can change your show() method in adapter.
public void show(int position) {
ImageView img;
img = (ImageView) imageViewsList.get(position);
int piece = pieces[position];
BitmapFactory.Options options = new BitmapFactory.Options();
options.inDither = false;
options.inJustDecodeBounds = false;
options.inPreferredConfig = Bitmap.Config.ARGB_8888;
options.inSampleSize = 3;
options.inPurgeable = true;
Bitmap icon = BitmapFactory.decodeResource(context.getResources(),
mThumbIds[piece],options);
img.setImageBitmap(icon);
}
Try once.

I know that there are countless examples of this on the internet, but for some reason I can't get this to work in the particular code I'm working on, despite all the resources/answers I've read through. And I don't have anyone with Java skills around me to help out. So hopefully that changes here.
I'm updating an existing Android media picker plugin (for a cordova app) to make it show video thumbnails in addition to pictures in the device gallery. I'm stuck with a "non-static variable in static context" error, but I'm having a really hard time identifying what needs to be changed. Below is the meat of the code I have. I have removed some parts to hopefully focus on the relevant bits. Essentially, the error occurs inside decodeSampledBitmapFromUri when I'm trying to get the thumbnail of a video. The method I'm using is MediaStore.Video.Thumbnails.getThumbnail and its first argument is the context, which is where the error starts. You can see that in loadThumbnail I tried getting the context using cordova.getActivity() and then passing it to decodeSampledBitmapFromUri, but even inside loadThumbnail I'm still getting the non-static error. I'm not sure how to proceed from here (I'm very new to Java). This is the code (with some other parts stripped out because I think they're not relevant):

I really need your help. I've searched Google many days with many keywords, but I couldn't get it. So, I decided to ask to you.
So, here it is. Actually, I have one button in RecyclerView, but this button is repeated as much amount of data available, there are: Button with text "Baca 3x", "Baca 4x", and so on. I want, if I click button with text "Baca 3x" 3 times, it will change to "Baca 2x" >> "Baca 1x" >> remove item. Also if I click button with text "Baca 4x" 4 times, it will change to "Baca 3x" >> "Baca 2x" >> "Baca 1x" >> remove item.
But my problem is, I can't treat every button with different treatment, because every time the item has been deleted, position of data changes automatically. Because of this, I can't get specific button. For example: There is two button,
1. Button "Baca 3x" on position 0
2. Button "Baca 4x" on position 1
If button "Baca 3x" on position 0 has been deleted, so button "Baca 4x" changed it's position automatically to 0. The problem lays here.
Until now I just get every button based on their positions, which is a problem for me. Because of this I am thinking about How to Delete Item Without Deleting Position in Recycler View? Can you guys solve my problem? Should I use DiffUtil?And how to use it? Below the complete code I use:

UPDATE (FIX CODE) By: Krishna Sharma:
https://github.com/seadclark/RecyclerViewWithButtonClicks
Here is the fix. just update the ModelDoa constructor as below. I have verified myself and working as expected now. Also sent you pull request on github.
public ModelDoa(String name, String butong, int type) {
this.mName = name;
this.bName = butong;
this.mType = type;
String[] data = butong.split("\\s");
if (data.length > 0) {
String count = data[1].substring(0, data[1].length() - 1);
read10 = Integer.parseInt(count);
}
}
Instead of removing the item from your list AND updating the interface, have two methods. One of them (deleteItem) will only delete the item and the other (deleteItemAndUpdate) will delete the item and update the interface.
public void deleteItem(int position) {
mList.remove(position); // hapus list
}
public void deleteItemAndUpdate(int position) {
mList.remove(position); // hapus list
notifyItemRemoved(position); // hapus tampilan
}
In the future, you can decide whether you want to only remove the item from your list OR remove the item and update the UI.
EDIT 1:
You need to keep track of the amount of times that each item was clicked. We can call this value readCount. Every time that the item is clicked, we subtract 1 from this value. When this value reaches 0, we remove it from the list.
ModelDoa:
public class ModelDoa {
private int readCount = 10;
public int getReadCount() {
return this.readCount;
}
public void setReadCount(int readCount) {
this.readCount = readCount;
}
}
PagiViewHolder:
private View.OnClickListener bacaClickListener = new View.OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
teksbaca = (Button) v.findViewById(R.id.buttonbaca);
ModelDoa modelDoa = mAdapter.getItem(getAdapterPosition());
if (modelDoa != null) {
modelDoa.setReadCount(modelDoa.getReadCount() - 1);
if (modelDoa.getReadCount() <= 0) {
myAdapter.deleteItem(getAdapterPosition());
}
teksbaca.setText("Baca " + modelDoa.getReadCount() + "x");
}
}
};
AdapterDoa:
public ModelDoa getItem(int position) {
if (position > -1 && position < getItemCount()) {
return this.mList.get(position);
} else {
return null;
}
}
EDIT 2:
The idea is to set the readCount variable when you instantiate the object. You do not have multiple variables that do the same thing. You just change the single readCount variable to be either 7 or 10 when you are creating it and use the same getItem method when retrieving the model (not variable!) itself.
ModelDoa:
public class ModelDoa {
private String name;
private String butong;
private int type;
private int readCount;
public ModelDoa(String name, String butong, int type, int readCount) {
this.mName = name;
this.bName = butong;
this.mType = type;
this.readCount = readCount;
}
public int getReadCount() {
return this.readCount;
}
public void setReadCount(int readCount) {
this.readCount = readCount;
}
}
DoaPagi:
private List<ModelDoa> getData() {
String[] data = getResources().getStringArray(R.array.doapagi);
String[] baca = getResources().getStringArray(R.array.bacapagi);
List<ModelDoa> list = new ArrayList<ModelDoa>();
for (int i = 0; i < data.length; i++) {
// Here is where you would set the value of readCount.
list.add(new ModelDoa(data[i], baca[i], ModelDoa.DOA_PAGI, i));
}
return list;
}
I'm editing an open source app: A simple coloring page app for kids. I need to be able to make the user import his own images to be colored,a code for a button in my menu that when clicked by the user it opens his gallery(on SD) to choose an image from and then import this image to the view where he could color it . Here is the full source code.
And here is the code for loading images from R.drawable:

// Apparently this cannot be set from the style.

I think you need to use pictures from sd card in your application .
You can do so using the following links
Load images from sd card folder
loading images from SD card directory in GridView
How to Dynamically show images from a folder in sdcard
gridview and setImageBitmap when load image from SDcard
Hope it helps
I want to read images from URL and show it in android gallery widget.
so I wrote below code in onCreate() method .
list = GuideDAO.getAllImages(businessId);
Gallery g = (Gallery) findViewById(R.id.gallery);
g.setSpacing(2);
// Set the adapter to our custom adapter (below)
if(list.size() > 0)
{
g.setAdapter(new ImageAdapter(this,list));
}
This is my ImageAdapter
public class ImageAdapter extends BaseAdapter {
List<Images> glist = null;
private String url;
public ImageAdapter(Context c,List<Images> lst) {
mContext = c;
glist = lst;
int i=0;
for (Images id : glist) {
url = id.getImageURL(); // Getting URL
InputStream inStream = null;
if (url.startsWith("http")) {
url = url.replace(" ", "%20");
HttpURLConnection conn;
try {
conn = (HttpURLConnection)new URL(url).openConnection();
conn.setDoInput(true);
conn.connect();
inStream = conn.getInputStream();
} catch (MalformedURLException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
} catch (IOException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
} else {
try {
inStream = new FileInputStream(url);
} catch (FileNotFoundException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
}
BitmapFactory.Options options = new BitmapFactory.Options();
options.inPreferredConfig = Bitmap.Config.RGB_565;
options.inPurgeable = true;
Bitmap b = BitmapFactory.decodeStream(inStream, null, options);
mImageCollection[i]=b;
i++;
}
}
public int getCount() {
return mImageIds.length;
}
public Object getItem(int position) {
return position;
}
public long getItemId(int position) {
return position;
}
public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) {
ImageView i = new ImageView(mContext);
i.setImageBitmap(mImageCollection[position]);
i.setScaleType(ImageView.ScaleType.FIT_XY);
i.setLayoutParams(new Gallery.LayoutParams(136, 88));
return i;
}
private Context mContext;
private String[] mImageURLs = {};
private Bitmap[] mImageCollection = {};
}
This throw error because it not in Thread. How can I change this code so that URL reading and image loads in background?
So I have changed my ImageAdapter by using SmartImageView , which handles background thread and caching.
public class ImageAdapter extends BaseAdapter {
List<ImageGallery> glist = null;
private String url;
public ImageAdapter(Context c,List<ImageGallery> lst) {
mContext = c;
glist = lst;
int i=0;
al = new ArrayList<String>();
for (ImageGallery id : glist) {
al.add(id.getImageURL());
}
}
public int getCount() {
return mImageIds.length;
}
public Object getItem(int position) {
return position;
}
public long getItemId(int position) {
return position;
}
public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) {
Log.d("deepak", "getview gallery");
SmartImageView i = new SmartImageView(mContext);
i.setImageUrl(al.get(position));
i.setScaleType(ImageView.ScaleType.FIT_XY);
i.setLayoutParams(new Gallery.LayoutParams(136, 88));
return i;
}
private Context mContext;
private String[] mImageURLs = {};
private ArrayList<String> al;
private Bitmap[] mImageCollection = {};
private Integer[] mImageIds = {};
}
But my getView() is not getting called now.
you can make use of Smart Image view. SmartImageView is a drop-in replacement for Android’s standard ImageView which additionally allows images to be loaded from URLs or the user’s contact address book. Images are cached to memory and to disk for super fast loading.
Please refer the following link for more info https://github.com/loopj/android-smart-image-view .hope this may help u to accomplish ur task
I'd suggest writing an AsyncImageLoader class and having it handle image downloads from http. This way you can cache and manage everything on separate threads and have it set the image to the view once the loading is complete. Also you could use this class throughout the application if you want to download images elsewhere.
you could call something like mImageLoader.loadImage(myImageView, Url) in your adapter and it would drop it in once it was finished loading.
if you want more details let me know :)
I have a listview in which I'm loading all the images (as previews) from the user's SD card. I have a custom SimpleCursorAdapter and when I override the getView() method, I try to start background threads for the image loading.
What I'm trying to do is basically "lazy loading" the image previews into the listview using background threads or something. I'm open for new solutions. The main problem is that scrolling is ungodly slow since loading images is so expensive an operation.
Here's the relevant code I'm trying:
public class listOfImages extends SimpleCursorAdapter {
private Cursor c;
private Context context;
public listOfImages(Context context, int layout, Cursor c,
String[] from, int[] to) {
super(context, layout, c, from, to);
this.c = c;
this.context = context;
}
public View getView(int pos, View inView, ViewGroup parent) {
View v = inView;
if (v == null) {
LayoutInflater inflater = (LayoutInflater) context.getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE);
v = inflater.inflate(R.layout.image_item, null);
}
this.c.moveToPosition(pos);
int columnIndex = this.c.getColumnIndexOrThrow(MediaStore.Images.Media.DISPLAY_NAME);
String name = this.c.getString(columnIndex);
columnIndex = this.c.getColumnIndexOrThrow(MediaStore.Images.Media.SIZE);
String size = this.c.getString(columnIndex);
columnIndex = this.c.getColumnIndexOrThrow(MediaStore.Images.Media.DATA);
String data = this.c.getString(columnIndex); //gives the filename
TextView sTitle = (TextView) v.findViewById(R.id.image_title);
sTitle.setText(name);
imagePreviewLoader ipl = new imagePreviewLoader(v, data);
ipl.mainProcessing();
v.setTag(data);
v.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
Toast.makeText(context, "Image: " + v.getTag(), Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
String filename = (String) v.getTag();
Intent intent = new Intent(context, ViewImage.class);
intent.putExtra("filename", filename);
context.startActivity(intent);
}
});
return v;
}
}
And now the background threading that I'm trying:
public class imagePreviewLoader {
private Handler handler = new Handler();
private View v;
private String data;
public imagePreviewLoader(View v, String data) {
this.v = v;
this.data = data;
}
protected void mainProcessing() {
Thread thread = new Thread(null, doBackground, "Background");
thread.start();
}
private Runnable doBackground = new Runnable() {
public void run() {
backgroundThreadProcessing();
}
};
private void backgroundThreadProcessing() {
handler.post(doUpdateGUI);
}
private Runnable doUpdateGUI = new Runnable() {
public void run() {
updateGUI();
}
};
private void updateGUI() {
ImageView img = (ImageView) v.findViewById(R.id.image_view);
BitmapFactory.Options bfo = new BitmapFactory.Options();
bfo.inSampleSize = 30;
bfo.inTargetDensity = 50;
Bitmap bm = BitmapFactory.decodeFile(data, bfo);
img.setImageBitmap(bm);
}
}
The issue is that everything tries to load at once when you scroll, so scrolling is really slow. I thought what would happen is the imageview would just stay blank (or a placeholder) until the thread has loaded the appropriate image. I guess not though.
Thanks for any help.
Have a look at my answer to this question, it has a sample project which shows how to do it but downloading images from the net. You should be able to modify it quite easily to work for you getting images from the SD card.
I have an easy to use library under a basically public domain license that you can check out... It will cancel loading for rows that aren't displaying and uses two threads to do image loading.
You can check it out on my GitHub: https://github.com/tbiehn/Android-Adapter-Image-Loader
