Deploying Eclipse Plugin RCP App on External Server - java

Pardon my ignorance on this topic but I am ignorant in this field and have come to own the migration of an app because the java developer couldn't figure it out. The original developer is no longer with the company.
We have a standalone SQL Server Database driven GUI app developed as an Eclipse plug-in RCP app currently running in full gusto on a desktop. We need to migrate it to a server based off a datacenter.
Just plain zip - unzip copy jars and config files did not work - the app is throwing a bunch of unrelated error messages which include, but not limited to:
!MESSAGE Unhandled event loop exception
!STACK 0
So, at this point I am wondering if I should build the app from scratch on the new server.
So I am hoping the experts here can guide me if that is indeed the case for plug-in apps developed in Eclipse i.e Do they need to be build using Eclipse or Maven when deploying to external Servers?
I understand without looking at the specifics, it is impossible to answer, but I'm wondering if it is a standard operating procedure to re-build the plug-in apps on the Server to deploy? If so, are there any pitfalls or gotchas I need to watch for?
Any guidance in this regard will greatly be appreciated.
TIA for your time,

A bug in the com.ibm.icu plugin/bundle prevents you running Eclipse Galileo (3.5) with Java 8 update 301 (version: 1.8.0_301) which only occurs when the update is greater than 255.
As workaround you might run your retro Eclipse with a retro Java like jdk8u252-b09.1. Please note that such old software contains known vulnerabilities.
i don't know the ecipse version you are trying to launch, but at a first sight, it seems that the eclipse version is too old to run under java 8. Try an older java version too or a newer eclipse version

Computer shut off while running eclipse

My computer shut off while I was running eclipse due to a power failure. After I restarted it, I can no longer start eclipse. I am running eclipse Luna and the log message I am getting is this:

Any ideas? I have already tried cleaning eclipse and deleting the lock file in the workspace. I couldn't find any other information relevant to my situation
If you really want to debug the problem, a search for "Unable to acquire application service" gets some answers that might help.
But if you just want to fix the problem, I suggest doing a clean install of Eclipse. It doesn't take long unless you have many added plugins.
That will fix all the Eclipse state without changing your workspace. In my experience, this is effective.
If that doesn't work, then look for broken state in your workspace.
Try this:
1) Start a command prompt
2) "cd" to your Eclipse directory
3) Type this command: eclipse.exe -clean (Windows) or ./eclipse -clean (Linux)
You can also try: eclipse.exe -initialize
Try this.
The config.ini file should specify org.eclipse.core.runtime#start in the osgi.bundles property. Here is the default osgi.bundles property, maybe it was (accidently) changed during some upgrade:
You need to add the following line to the bottom of the eclipse.ini file:
-Dosgi.bundles=org.eclipse.equinox.common#2:start,org.eclipse.update.configurator#3:start,org.eclipse.core.runtime#start

I have the libswt-gtk files stored at /home/user/.swt/lib/linux/ and also at /usr/lib/jni/ but I assume for the error log that eclipse is looking for them in the root file directory itself? How do I change this path?
If I recall correctly for UIs there's gksudo. Not sure if it comes pre-installed in the latest versions of Ubuntu, so you might need to sudo apt-get install gksudo first
Try Making a symbolic link in your root directory to point to the one in your user directory.
ln -s /home/user/.swt/ /root/.swt/

Eclipse has stopped working and won't start anymore

Eclipse gave me an error which said
GC overhead limit exeeded
I know this is related to garbage collection and I had to shut down eclipse because nothing was working. Now when I start it it shows a splashscreen with the dialogue box of choosing workspace. I choose ok and eclipse shut down. It also initially told me to see the error report in a log file: here is the full file, it's an SWT error, any solutions to this????

Okay so here's a temporary fix I've found to this:
On the splashscreen box where it says Workspace, change the workspace to something else.
I've looked at other solutions and they did not work for me at all and I'm not going to reinstall Eclipse all over again if I can help it !
The intuitive sense of the problem that I have is that when I shut down eclipse the error causing task was still running. Some insight might be found here as well: http://www.metod.si/job-found-still-running-after-platform-shutdown-eclipse/ , although it was not the same error.
Au revoir, and I'll post any updates if I have them.
I am using Eclipse MARS and had a large JSON file open when this started happening. The UI was not fully rendered and was unresponsive. I had to kill it with the Task Manager. The subject error was found in the .log file.
I had to locate the workbench.xmi file under the workspace .metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.e4.workbench folder and delete the children element that was referencing the open file. After saving that I could restart Eclipse.

Trouble with Eclipse

I installed Eclipse Helios and m2eclipse. Next I created a maven project. Now Eclipse goes crazy. It leaks all the time, goes in endless loops (continously 50% CPU), throws PermGen Space Errors and crashes. I can't work.
I tried to substitute the JDK with an older version, the same with maven and the same with eclipse. I also changed the size of my PermGen Space.
Has somebody an Idea what's wrong? Or does that remembers somebody about a known bug? May there be a problem with my Windows XP?
Her are some Errors from my Workspace/Metadata/.log:

Update
I installed Eclipse + m2eclipse with Pulse. And it works now. Thank you
I've recently done to same thing - installed Helios with m2eclipse (on XP) with nothing of the above happening. So it's your local problem. Try to:
delete your installation and make it anew
try not creating a maven project, but rather creating a simple project, adding a pom, and enabling maven capabilities (via right click)
Check your eclipse.ini file. From your posted log I see this:
Framework arguments: -product
org.eclipse.epp.package.jee.product
-XX:PermSize=128M -XX:MaxPermSize=256m
Those are supposed to be VM arguments, not program arguments. If they were properly specified as vm arguments then you shouldn't see them there in the log.
Make sure they are below the -vmargs in the eclipse.ini file. Also make sure every argument is on its own line. Look at this question for examples.
Also well, if you are running Java 6 update 21, take a look at this.
I was facing exactly same problem except that mine was 64 bit OS and 64 bit eclipse with 64 bit JDK 1.6.0_26 update.
After refering to various forums, I re-installed the JDK to an older version.. JDK 1.6.0_17 and got rid of the Out of memory error.
Hope that helps.
It also helps to install the 32 bit and 64 bit JDKs. I did this and it fixed my eclipse perm gen space errors for some reason...
Another option, that has worked for me, is to adding in Run->Debug configurations...->(Your Maven build)->JRE tab->VM arguments some VM arguments:
-Xms512m -Xmx1024m -XX:PermSize=256m -XX:MaxPermSize=512m -XX:NewSize=128m
Hope this help...
I also received this error and found it was due to the fact that I renamed my eclipse executable from default name when unzipped -> 'eclipse.exe' . The new name contained spaces, so not sure if it is related....
