Java: How to load a file from within the current jar - java

I need to load a few sound files and an image from a resources package that is in the same directory as my main package. Is there a specific way to do this? Because I have tried to class.getResource(filename) but that gives a null pointer exception only when I'm running the actual jar file, and not in Eclipse.

trying to read data from the Excel file saved in MS Office 2010 brings this error up. Saved the file as an Excel 2003-07 and then it will read without any problem. or even "Excel 97-2003 Workbook" type will solve the issue.

Backup H2DB Embedded?

I have an application that I use H2DB and now I want to do backup of database.
Tried make a copy using FileUtils but does it return an exception that file database is locked because my application is opened.

Swing text components fail to paste large text data from clipboard: java.io.IOException: Owner failed to convert data

I am working with a JTextArea directly and via JTextComponent interface attempting to paste text data from outside the swing-based app (notepad) into the app.
Using two different methods (shown below) I seem to be getting the same result for large amounts of text data. It works fine as long as I stick to small amounts (<25k) but pasting in a white-list of domains around 1.5MB seems to cause the IOException. I have seen a number of articles for various apps around the net referring to it being a bug in the 1.6 JVM. I'm currently using jdk1.7.0_25 and I'm wondering if anyone knows a resolution or workaround???
I'm also open to the possibility that I'm going about this thing the wrong way entirely...

Additional testing seems to indicate that this only occurs on Linux operating systems (which I use for dev) but it seems to operate on windows (which I don't use).

Don't know if it will work any better on large data but you can try using the default Action from the DefaultEditorKit to do the copy:
JButton paste = new JButton( new DefaultEditorKit.PasteAction() );
The Action can also be added to a JMenuItem.

NoClassDefFoundError: Could not initialize class com.jidesoft.swing.JideSwingUtilities

Im working on my old project at the moment using jide libraries, I used netbeans as my IDE, it works fine when I was working with it in Windows 7 a year ago.
Currently I'm using OS X Mavericks and using netbeans 7.2.1, when I try to drag the component from the palette manager i got this error.
Got anyone also encounter this?

You get this error because your code is compiled against JDK1.6 but your runtime is not. In my case it was JRE1.7
You can fix this by making sure you JRE and JDK are the same versions.
For me, I changed my eclipse run config from 1.7 (default) to 1.6

Mouse Jumping when I enter a label

A bit ago I posted a question on cursors here
and I was wondering how do I get the cursor to stop jumping so what I mean is then I enter the jlabel it shows it like normal and then after a couple of seconds it jumps to a different place now when I added the frame drag method I added this code to stop this form happening
this.setLocation(x - xMouse, y - yMouse);
But I was wondering how would add it into this method

Edit 2 : Fixed that issue but still having the jump

The Point parameter to createCustomCursor is used to define the "hot spot" of the cursor
That is, it describes the point in the cursor image where a mouse event will generate it's click point
From the JavaDocs...

Creates a new custom cursor object. If the image to display is invalid, the cursor
will be hidden (made completely transparent), and the hotspot will be
set to (0, 0). Note that multi-frame images are invalid and may cause
this method to hang.
Parameters: cursor - the image to display when the cursor is actived
hotSpot - the X and Y of the large cursor's hot spot; the hotSpot
values must be less than the Dimension returned by getBestCursorSize

The "hotspot" defines the location within the cursor where the "click" point will be generated. In the first cursor, it's 12x5, in the second it's 10x5.
So, the position of cursor on the screen will be relative to it's top, left corner (0x0 relative). When the user presses the mouse button, the system will add the "hotspot" offset to the current screen position and generate an appropriate mouse event.
What I suspect is happening, is when you change the cursor, the system is trying to align the mouse's hotspot with the old cursors hotspot, which is causing it to jump about.
