Glassfish [java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException] - java

I'm having a trouble adding resources to glassfish. I'm working with Java Message Dreven Beans and Hibernate. My problem is less the code and more glassfish (i've not depoyed any projects yet, still I can't do the firsts steps in admin tool).
Im using Netbeans 8.1 and glassfish 4.1.1 newlly installed from netbeans.com
Here's the server log:
java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException while attempting to process a 'beforeCreate' event for 'event152'.

I see you downgraded to 4.1. I too had the same problem with resource creation with 4.1.1. There seems to be a bug in GLASSFISH that is not fixed yet.
Anyway, if you cannot create resources from the web admin console (which happens in 4.1.1) you can always create resources from asadmin console (in your glassfish folder).
Look at the examples here for jdbc:
https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19798-01/821-1751/ggndp/index.html
and here for JMS:
https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E18930_01/html/821-2416/ablkb.html
It is really easy, try it out. Have fun!

It's 2017 now and the problem remains in Glassfish 4.1.1.
But Glassfish 4.1.2 seems to be working fine, allowing the creation of new JMS Connection Factories and Destination Resources.

How can I solve this problem ? Thanks.
use -verbose:class java option to log the root ClassLoader error/exception occurring - I've found that by default this information isn't logged for some reason. For example I had this same issue and it turned out to be a guava version issue:
java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: com.google.common.base.Preconditions.checkArgument(ZLjava/lang/String;CLjava/lang/Object;)V
The message
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Could not initialize class io.grpc.netty.shaded.io.grpc.netty.NettyChannelBuilder
does not say which class definition not found which caused NettyChannelBuilder to fail to initialize. Most likely the netty classes are missing (io.netty:netty-*)? Have you disabled transitive dependencies by any chance?

NoClassDefFoundError: Could not initialize class

I'm developing an Identity Provider using OpenSAML API.
I have created a java application to test OpenSAML API which was a success.
The problem is now I'm trying to use that java Application in Servlet using glassfish and I'm loosing my mind right now.
Hear me out:
before you can start using OpenSAML you have to call it's bootstrap to initiate it's components, one of those components is
org.apache.xml.security.Init
so i added xmlsec.jar into libraries but every time I run the WebApplication it keeps on getting an exception:
"java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Could not initialize class org.apache.xml.security.Init"
the confusing part is if I remove the xmlsec.jar from libs, it still knows the
import "org.apache.xml.security.Init"
but when I delete that and try to rewrite the same:
import "org.apache.xml.security.Init"
now it fails because now org.apache doesn't have xml.security in it.
any idea guys?
PS: I'm using these:
- NetBeans IDE
- Glassfish 4.1.1
- Java EE 7
- JDK 1.8

This could be due to a conflict between classes provided by JVM or your Container host, and those in the WAR file. If the class is duplicated in both places it can play all sorts of havoc with your startup.
Turns out you should abandon glassfish and go to JBoss.
That solved my problem.
Thanks.

Amazon S3 Java SDK & Jackson Strange Exception at production

I am using Amazon S3 to put files in a bucket which seems to work fine when I am connecting from my localhost. When deployed, I get a strange exception which I cannot explain. I have searched the forums and tried out all recommendations but it doesnt solve my problem. I have even downgraded my jackson annotations and core to different versions with no solution. I eventually got it to work. As Avhoo had rightly mentioned, it had to do with dependencies. I created a new maven project and just moved my source files into it. I add updated the pom.xml file and let maven download the required libraries. It worked fine since then.

Is the problem coming from the glassfish bundeled with netbeans that I removed. And how can I fix this ?
Actually I faced the same problem on windows, and it resolved be delete my glassfishe from Prgramfile folder and download new version from http://download.oracle.com/glassfish/4.0/promoted/glassfish-4.0-b87.zip
and extract it where you want but not in programfile beacuse it need admin roll
and then creat new server.

Try running the same production app on your dev machine : if you get no error, then maybe production database can be the problem.
In my case I had this error but my production database did not have the right permissions to access one table; also some tables did not exist on prod machine while they did on dev machine. Fixing the database issues solved the problem.
Also : to handle exceptions you can use play's action composition to call any action method wrapped in a try/catch and log the error (in file, database and send an email...)
