tomcat died after running well for a while - java

i have 2 tomcat server running on the same machine, both accessing the same DB on another machine.
Tomcat 7.0.37 with spring 4.1.6 (MVC, jdbc, framework), and MySQL 5.5.13.
the tomcat web server works well for hours until it suddenly died with no response.
i have to kill the process manually as the bin/shutdown.sh has no effect.
when tomcat1 dies, tomcat2 still works well...
things i tried:
1 increased the c3p0 max_connections from 50 to 100
2 change tomcat to NIO mode
will try:
replace c3p0 with HikariCP;
here is the log from catalina.out:

Looks like a process got stuck waiting for a new sql connection.
Make sure that you configured connection and socket timeouts for all
your sql connections.
Make sure that all your connection-, statement-, and resultset
objects in java are closed after use (close method is called in a finally
block).

If you are working on the DB locally, then you can check the timeout settings and modify them in order to cope with the delay in the request calls.
If you are working on a remote DB m/c, then maintaining a consistent Connection is needed. If you are unsure about how to keep the connection consistent with your machine to the DB machine, then write a simple batch script which pings the DB server and keeps the Connection alive for your application to send a request.

This is totally database problem not Tomcat. Database crashes when parameters that you set for database reached to its maximum utilization and there is no more parameters available.
Check your process and session parameters utilization at peak time and set according to their maximum utilization * 5

Detecting client-aborting request Jersey - Continue [duplicate]

I have Jersey providing a restfull web service. It happens often that the client aborts request done via ajax, with the ajax abort methods like is explained here abort ajax request
On server side I get the following output. Which is not nice to see. Is there a way to detect an aborted request in Jersey?

Aborted request must be logged in tomcat access log. You can find all requests and related response codes in it.
But your problem may be related with system limits. In jersey, for each request to server, I/O container sends new instance of the response writer
so you should check operation system limit which is located etc/security/limits.conf.
Mentioned file contains domain, type and value fields.
Domain can be an user name, a group name or any wildcard.
type filed can have two values, (soft or hard),
soft for enforcing the soft limits, hard for enforcing hard limits.
value field is defined limit for domain :)
I think if you increase limit for tomcat user, the problem will be solved.
sample conf for tomcat
tomcat soft nofile 102400
tomcat hard nofile 102400
tomcat soft nproc 102400
tomcat hard nproc 102400

Could not load org.hibernate.internal.util.JdbcExceptionHelper

I have purchased DigitalOcean server and I am trying to run a java application. I am using ubuntu OS and tomcat 7 server where my webapps folder is located in :
/usr/share/tomcat7
Now, I have scp my ROOT.war in the folder and restarted tomcat server and apache. But my application is not running. In the file catalina.2014-02-09.log, it shows:
INFO: Illegal access: this web application instance has been stopped already. Could not load org.hibernate.internal.util.JdbcExceptionHelper. The eventual following stack trace is caused by an error thrown for debugging purposes as well as to attempt to terminate the thread which caused the illegal access, and has no functional impact.

Can anyone help me with that?
Edit 1:
I have removed the error logs which I am able to resolve. tomcat is able to create ROOT directory in webapps and I can see the jsp files. But the next error is something I am not able to make out. Please help me out here.
java.io.IOException: Unable to create the directory [/usr/share/tomcat7/webapps/ROOT/META-INF]
Make sure that the user that you are using to start/stop the tomcat server has proper read/write privileges in the directory /usr/share/ directory.

I have absolutely no expirience either JMS or Camel, so my guess that JMS is not allowed to use port 7676 if it is so how i can fix this? If it is not the cause do you have any hint what i am doing wrong?
Do you have a broker running on this port? You can verify that the broker is running with telnet:
telnet localhost 7676

It is not a code problem. It is something in your environment so I am not sure how much anyone here can help you. Here are a couple of hints. The exception message is:
java.net.ConnectException: Operation timed out
This rules out a few things. If you were able to access host www.dev.com but mysql was not running, you would have gotten java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused. If you mistyped the address (ex. www.dev.comm) you would have gotten java.net.UnknownHostException: <host name>.
Unfortunately you got the timed out error. This means that the host name was successfully resolved to an address, but when you tried to connect to the address, you got absolutely no response whatsoever from the computer. Which normally means one of two things:
someone turned off the computer
there is a firewall turned on between you and the computer and the firewall is not allowing tcp connections on port 3306.
I'm guessing it's the firewall. Good luck. Hope this helps.

Issue with Hibernate and Apache Tomcat

I use Hibernate implementation of JPA in my project, with Apache Tomcat as server and PostgreSQL as database. From some time, I got an error, that isn't present every time. After I got it, if I restart the server, in general every thing goes well. Bellow is the stack trace:

Question: I can't understand why I get this error. If you think you can suggest what's the issue, just do it please.
(N.B. If you need more details just tell me).
The PostgreSQL logs should tell more but you may be running out of
connections. Check max-connections in postgresql.conf. Link to doc for 9.1
out of memory and the oom-killer kills your connection. Link to doc for 9.1 and an article on PostgreSQL memory management and linux
My problem was related to connections, as #BGR suggested. There was a funnction that created a connection (an EntityManager on hibernate) and forgot to close() it. After some time - because that function was called relatively frequent - the maximum connections number specified in my configuration file was filled up, and resulted that behaviour.
