RabbitMQ impacting JDBC connection pool - java

I have a web servlet that has been running well. I decided to replace a TCP connection to a backend server with RabbitMQ. While doing some load testing I noticed that it quickly started to fail with timeouts waiting for idle JDBC connection.

I have not implemented any pooling myself at this point. The RabbitMQ connection is a singleton shared between all the session threads. A channel is opened and closed for each request.
My research has not turned up any connection between RabbitMQ and jdbc connection pools, but I have to admit that I only have a passing knowledge of either.
Here is the code I am using:
String requestQueueName = "dw-dev-prototype";
QueueingConsumer consumer;
Channel channel = null;
String correlationId = UUID.randomUUID().toString();
String thisResponse = null;
String totalResponse = "";
StringBuffer sbResponse;
// We will create a new reply queue for each request
String replyQueueName = "";
try
{
// We will send the replyQueueName with the request so the server knows how to send the
// response back to us
channel = _connection.createChannel();
replyQueueName = channel.queueDeclare().getQueue();
consumer = new QueueingConsumer(channel);
channel.basicConsume(replyQueueName, AUTO_ACKNOWLEDGE, consumer);
BasicProperties props = new BasicProperties.Builder().correlationId(correlationId).replyTo(replyQueueName)
.build();
channel.basicPublish(NO_EXCHANGE, requestQueueName, props, sNameValuePairs.getBytes("UTF-8"));
}
catch (IOException e)
{
log.error("New connection IOException: " + e.getMessage(), e);
abortConnection(_connection, channel);
throw new RuntimeException(e);
}
while (true)
{
QueueingConsumer.Delivery delivery;
try
{
// Get the next response
delivery = consumer.nextDelivery();
thisResponse = new String(delivery.getBody(), "UTF-8");
// Ignore the response if it is not for our correlation-id
else if (delivery.getProperties().getCorrelationId().equals(correlationId))
{
if (thisResponse.equals(this._serviceFinishedMsg))
{
// No more text for this response - we are done
break;
}
else
{
totalResponse += thisResponse;
}
}
}
catch (ShutdownSignalException | ConsumerCancelledException | InterruptedException e)
{
log.error("Consumer exception: " + e.getMessage(), e);
throw new RuntimeException(e);
}
catch (UnsupportedEncodingException e)
{
log.error("UnsupportedEncoding exception: " + e.getMessage(), e);
throw new RuntimeException(e);
}
}
// Close now that we are done
try
{
if (channel != null && channel.isOpen())
{
channel.close();
}
}
catch (IOException | TimeoutException e)
{
log.error("Error closing channel or connection", e);
}
I am running this in a Tomcat container. I am using Spring, but not Spring AMQP yet.
The JDBC calls are in a security filter that runs before the request gets to this method.
Any hints as to how I might troubleshoot this would be welcome.
Thanks in advance.

A call that you initiated invoked aop -> spring service -> hibernate. Hibernate is invoking commons dbcp and asking for a connection pool. You're likely running out of connections from this pool or the db has become unreachable. I'd vote for the former.
Integration java melody into your app and deploy it again. Monitor the connection pool and check if you run out. If you do...
Consider increasing the connection pool limit
If increasing connection pool limit does not help, you might have a dbcp pool leak. Investigate if you are returning connections back to the pool correctly.

JMS: Server closed connection and reconnection not permitted

I want to count the messages in the queue.
InitialContext ctx = initQueue();

queueConnection.start();
queueSession =
queueConnection.createQueueSession(false,

I am able to solve the issue by setting the connection pooling properties on datasource object itself. I think the hibernate properties are not able to reflect the pooling setting. I am able to replicate the issue on dev environment by setting wait_timeout=60, interactive_timeout=60 ( i.e. 1 min) in my.ini file of mysql. Then After server started I tried first transaction, waited for 1 min, then tried the txn which failed. Then I enabled the query log(by setting two more properties in my.ini:
general_log = 1
general_log_file = "C:/xampp/mysql/data/mysql.log"
I enabled above settings to check whether my select 1 validation query is getting executed or not.I tried the pooling setting on datasource object itself it starts working. The query log was also showing the selec 1 execution every hibernate.c3p0.idle_test_period seconds.

How to handle System.IO.IOException in Java

I'm using jni4net to bridge between Java program & a C# dll file which controls a hardware device. The device and PC are connected by a network cable and I'm trying to handle the cable unplugged case while Java program is retrieving data from the hardware device via C# dll, frequently.
When unplugged the network cable, following exception is thrown by C# which is to be caught at Java side. But it's not happening even though I've tried catching with 'Exception', 'system.io.IOException' or 'Throwable' in Java.
What am I doing wrong? Is there other way around? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Code:
MyHardware f = new MyHardware();
f.Connection(DEVICE_IP);
if (f.ConnectionStatus()) {
try {
net.sf.jni4net.Ref<java.lang.String> refAmount = new Ref<String>(null),
refVolume = new Ref<String>(null), refPpu = new Ref<String>(null);
net.sf.jni4net.Ref<java.lang.Integer> refGrade = new Ref<Integer>(null),
refHose = new Ref<Integer>(hoseId);
f.GetLastSnapshot(Id, refAmount, refVolume, refPpu, refGrade, refHose);
} catch (Throwable t) {
logger.error("Error connecting device.");
}
}

Spring - RestTemplate Error calling a https rest service (Certificate error)

I call in tomcat war a rest web service. I do the web service invocation with this:
public UsuarioDTO validarDatosToken(String token, boolean incluirRoles) throws ModeloException, DAOException {
RestTemplate restTemplate = new RestTemplate();
UserRestVO page = restTemplate.getForObject("https://xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"), UserRestVO.class);
if (page != null && page.getStatusResult() != null && page.getStatusResult().getStatusCode().equals("OK") && page.getUser() != null) {
------------
return datos;
} else {
throw new ModeloException(ErroresGeneralesEnum.ERROR_TOKEN_CADUCADO);
}
}
}
public Authentication authenticateReal(Authentication authentication) throws AuthenticationException {
String username = authentication.getName();
String password = (String) authentication.getCredentials();
UsuarioDTO usuario = null;
try {
usuario = usuariosService.validarDatosToken(username, true);
} catch (Exception e) {
e.printStackTrace();
Logger.getLogger(CustomAuthenticationProvider.class.getName()).error(e);
throw new BadCredentialsException("Username not found.");
}
}
The following error is produced when web service is called. I try to do a lot of things but notting works:
I think that the problem is with the certificate but i dont solve it.
¿Do you have any idea?

From your code i dont see any specific SSL configuration for your RestTemplate. Since i dont know which version of Spring (and related HTTPClient), i suggest try starting with the following code and see what happens:
public void tryme() throws ClientProtocolException, IOException {
String urlOverHttps = "https:xxxxxxx";
CloseableHttpClient httpClient =
HttpClients.custom()
.setSSLHostnameVerifier(new NoopHostnameVerifier())
.build();
HttpComponentsClientHttpRequestFactory reqFactory =
new HttpComponentsClientHttpRequestFactory();
reqFactory.setHttpClient(httpClient);
ResponseEntity<String> response =
new RestTemplate(reqFactory).exchange(
urlOverHttps, HttpMethod.GET, null, String.class);
String responseCode = response.getStatusCode();
}
This should in theory bypass certs check. It requires HTTPClient 4.4. As i said, you dont expose many details of your current configuration so i can really only wild guess here.
I found the error
Somebody change the etc/init.d/tomcat7 to include two lines with a invalid cert store. Removing it, it's work! thanks to all
-Djavax.net.ssl.keyStore=mySrvKeystore -Djavax.net.ssl.keyStorePassword=123456
