COMPSs application blocked - java

When executing the sample application increment given in the manual (http://compss.bsc.es/releases/compss/latest/docs/COMPSs_User_Manual_App_Exec.pdf) the runtime gets blocked and no error message is displayed in the terminal.

Checking the $HOME/.COMPSs/increment*/runtime.log all the tasks seem to be blocked:

The runtime.log must be in the home folder of the user who has executed runcompss
$HOME/.COMPSs/increment*
EDIT: If all tasks are blocked, check if there are constraints defined in IncrementItf.java matches with the description in the resources.xml. Another possible problem is that the resources couldn't be started.

Tasks get blocked for two reasons:
Resources are not properly configured on the xml files.
The available resources do not fulfill the task constraints (does not apply in the simple example)
You should check the project and resources xml files. There should be one resource with the same name in both files.

You should check the runtime.log file, it contains all the master's output.

Readiness and liveness failed with smallrye metrics in kubernetes

I'm deploying a pod written in quarkus in kubernetes and the startup seems to go fine. But there's a problem with readiness and liveness that result unhealthy.
For metrics I'm using smallrye metrics configured on port 8080 and on path:

So it seems metrics are working fine, but kubernetes returns this error:

beanshell - Deadlock issue

Has anyone got any experience of having deadlocks with beanshell? This is something we have been encountering recently in our production system where script execution is blocking other threads, due to it's lock on classloading via tomcat. I see that Groovy is a more popular choice for Java scripting, but I haven't seen many posts where it says that bsh can cause deadlocks.
It would be good to get some ideas from SO users.

There's a fix for one dead lock in GUI does not start in Java 8 found in Beanshell (almost latest) version 2.0b5.
You can open a new issue in Beanshell project.
It may be connected to ClassManagerImpl:
Bsh has a multi-tiered class loading architecture. No class loader is
created unless/until a class is generated, the classpath is modified,
or a class is reloaded.
Note: we may need some synchronization in here

I am using COMPSs 1.3.
Why is this happenning?
You are trying to run master and worker in the same node. COMPSs 1.3 at cluster with the NIO adaptor (default option) is using mpirun to spawn the master and worker processes in the different nodes of the cluster and the mpirun installed in the cluster doesn't allow to do this.
The options to solve it are the following:
You do not specify --tasks_in_master= in the enqueue_compss command.
You execute with GAT Adaptor (--comm=integratedtoolkit.gat.master.GATAdaptor) which has more overhead
Next COMPSs software release will use the spawn command which is available in the different cluster resource managers( such as blaunch, srun) which must solve this issue

JDBC Communication link failure under heavy load

I have Scala / Akka / Slick 3.x runnable that retrieve 25000 records in a Mysql 5.6 community DB. For each of them, it spawns an actor that will do 7 counts and return a case class containing those 7 values to the runner, which will, once finished save that as a csv file.
It works perfectly fine locally, it gets all the data, store them in memory, output them, close itself, everything is good. On my production DB, it's ok for about 40 seconds, I can see in the logs that it gets all the data until this happens :

At this point, i shutdown the actorsystem and return appropriate exit code, but this operation hasn't gone through.
I faced the maxQueue exception in slick which I fixed with :

And set max_connections to 500... No luck

Runtime partition failed for this job in Hama BSP

I encountered the following problem when start running a hama BSP job. This exception occurs when hama tries to load and partition the input data before it actually runs my own code. This is a known problem discussed in some websites but unfortunate without a known cause (eg. see here).
My BSP job works perfectly ok when I only runs part of the data set. However, when I run the full data set, the problem occurs :(
Can I know how to resolve or avoid this problem?

After stuck at this problem for several hours, I found that once the number of input files is greater than the number of allowed bsp tasks, then this error will occur. I think it is probably a bug that Hama should fix in the future.
A quick fix to this problem is to increase the number of maximum bsp tasks, specified by the variable bsp.tasks.maximum in the hama-site.xml file. For example, the following uses 10 instead of the default setting 3:
