Converting maven project that uses plugins to a gradle project - java

I'm new with Gradle and confused to change maven code to gradle, I get code from ApacheKarafCookbook and want to use gradle as build tool. I tried use gradle init and its not working.
<build>
<plugins>
<plugin>
<groupId>org.jacoco</groupId>
<artifactId>jacoco-maven-plugin</artifactId>
<version>0.7.0.201403182114</version>
<executions>
<execution>
<id>prepare-agent-integration</id>
<goals>
<goal>prepare-agent-integration</goal>
</goals>
<phase>pre-integration-test</phase>
<configuration>
<propertyName>jcoverage.command</propertyName>
<includes>
<include>com.packt.*</include>
</includes>
<append>true</append>
</configuration>
</execution>
<execution>
<id>report</id>
<goals>
<goal>report-integration</goal>
</goals>
</execution>
</executions>
</plugin>
</plugins>
</build>
How do I change to gradle?

gradle init will not do auto conversion of maven plugins, phases and targets. You'll have to do that bit by hand. Here's some documentation on how to setup and use the gradle jacoco plugin.

How to migrate maven plugins form maven to gradle

I am migrating my spring boot project from maven to gradle. I have done dependencies migration, but have problems with plugin migration. Need an assistanse. Also if there any real example with comparing maven and gradle plugin will be appreciated. I have already done stuffs like gradle init and so I need something new. Here is my code:
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-pmd-plugin</artifactId>
<version>3.13.0</version>
<configuration>
<linkXRef>false</linkXRef>
<rulesets>
<ruleset>/config/setting/setting.xml</ruleset>
</rulesets>
</configuration>
</plugin>
<plugin>
<groupId>org.jacoco</groupId>
<artifactId>jacoco-maven-plugin</artifactId>
<version>0.8.5</version>
<configuration>
<destFile>${sonar.jacoco.reportPath}</destFile>
<append>true</append>
</configuration>
<executions>
<execution>
<id>report-sonar</id>
<phase>verify</phase>
<goals>
<goal>report-sonar</goal>
</goals>
</execution>
</executions>
</plugin>
2 plugins I am struggling with. If you could show me the migrations of this two, I think i will manage to do the others.
For both of your plugins there is a gradle plugin,too.
The docs look pretty promising.

Jacoco Maven coverage report always 0%

I've this problem with Jacoco maven plugin in IntelliJ IDEA 2020.
I put the Jacoco plugin configuration in my pom.xml maven file and then executed the mvn clean install command. It generates the target\site folder but when I open the index.html file it shows me a coverage of 0%, listing all my classes, although I get a 92% coverage in IntelliJ's integrated tool. The jacoco.exec file is generated in target folder, but it's empty!
How can I fix this issue?
Here's my pom.xml fragment:
<plugins>
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-compiler-plugin</artifactId>
<configuration>
<source>14</source>
<target>14</target>
</configuration>
</plugin>
<plugin>
<groupId>org.jacoco</groupId>
<artifactId>jacoco-maven-plugin</artifactId>
<version>0.8.5</version>
<configuration>
<excludes>
<exclude>META-INF/**</exclude>
</excludes>
</configuration>
<executions>
<execution>
<id>pre-unit-test</id>
<goals>
<goal>prepare-agent</goal>
</goals>
</execution>
<execution>
<id>post-unit-test</id>
<phase>test</phase>
<goals>
<goal>report</goal>
<goal>check</goal>
</goals>
<configuration>
<rules>
</rules>
</configuration>
</execution>
</executions>
</plugin>
</plugins>
I'm using the latest Java version (14).
Thanks in advance!

Exclude *target* directory from the maven-checkstyle-plugin scan

I am using Apache Maven Checkstyle plugin in my pom.xml.
I am trying to exclude the target directory from the check style scan but no luck so far. Here is the pom code i am trying.
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-checkstyle-plugin</artifactId>
<executions>
<execution>
<id>checkstyle-check</id>
<phase>test</phase>
<goals>
<goal>check</goal>
</goals>
</execution>
</executions>
<configuration>
<configLocation>checkstyles.xml</configLocation>
<failsOnError>true</failsOnError>
<failOnViolation>true</failOnViolation>
<consoleOutput>true</consoleOutput>
<includes>**\/*.java,**\/*.groovy</includes>
<excludes>**WHAT GOES HERE TO EXCLUDE THE TARGET DIRECTORY**</excludes>
</configuration>
</plugin>
In Apache Maven Checkstyle Plugin version 3 to specify the location of the source directories we have to use sourceDirectories parameter. Then we can specify only directories of application/library and test sources to be used for Checkstyle:
<sourceDirectories>
<sourceDirectory>${project.build.sourceDirectory}</sourceDirectory>
<sourceDirectory>${project.build.testSourceDirectory}</sourceDirectory>
</sourceDirectories>
Now only src/main/java and src/test/java will be analysed.
Here is my full working example:
<!-- Apache Maven Checkstyle Plugin (checks Java code adheres to a coding standard) -->
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-checkstyle-plugin</artifactId>
<version>${maven-checkstyle-plugin.version}</version>
<executions>
<execution>
<phase>test</phase>
<goals>
<goal>check</goal>
</goals>
</execution>
</executions>
<configuration>
<sourceDirectories>
<sourceDirectory>${project.build.sourceDirectory}</sourceDirectory>
<sourceDirectory>${project.build.testSourceDirectory}</sourceDirectory>
</sourceDirectories>
<!-- relates to https://github.com/checkstyle/checkstyle/blob/master/src/main/resources/google_checks.xml -->
<configLocation>/src/main/resources/checkstyle.xml</configLocation>
</configuration>
</plugin>
<excludes>**/generated/**/*</excludes>
This will remove the generated files from the plugin.

How to create JavaDoc documentation by using command mvn install?

I have a question concerning the maven javadoc plugin? I have configured that plugin with this values:
<build>
....
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-javadoc-plugin</artifactId>
<version>2.9</version>
<configuration>
<noqualifier>all</noqualifier>
<reportOutputDirectory>${basedir}/MyDoc/javadoc</reportOutputDirectory>
<destDir>javadoc</destDir>
</configuration>
<executions>
<execution>
<id>attach-javadocs</id>
<goals>
<goal>javadoc</goal>
</goals>
</execution>
</executions>
</plugin>
...
</build>
Is there a way to create some kind of documentation, if I use the command mvn clean install? I donĀ“t want to create a Jar File with my JavaDoc documentation, I need a way to create the JavaDoc and put the created source file directly in my maven project.
Thanks !

To execute plugin during certain phase, add <phase> to <execution>. Plugin should be fired:
<executions>
<execution>
<id>attach-javadocs</id>
<phase>install</phase> <------ HERE
<goals>
<goal>javadoc</goal>
</goals>
</execution>
</executions>

Problems running JBehave with Maven

I am trying to get a JBehave story to execute in Maven it is completely ignoring the JBehave plugin. I've spent several hours using different configurations but it looks like the plugin isn't being executed at all. Any recommendations/tips would be appreciated!
All my JBehave classes live in:
src/at/java
Relevant parts of my pom.xml:
<plugin>
<groupId>org.codehaus.mojo</groupId>
<artifactId>build-helper-maven-plugin</artifactId>
<version>1.5</version>
<executions>
<execution>
<id>add-test-source</id>
<phase>generate-sources</phase>
<goals>
<goal>add-test-source</goal>
</goals>
<configuration>
<sources>
<source>src/at/java</source>
</sources>
</configuration>
</execution>
</executions>
</plugin>
<plugin>
<groupId>org.jbehave</groupId>
<artifactId>jbehave-maven-plugin</artifactId>
<executions>
<execution>
<id>run-stories-as-embeddables</id>
<phase>integration-test</phase>
<configuration>
<includes>
<include>**/*.java</include>
</includes>
</configuration>
<goals>
<goal>run-stories-as-embeddables</goal>
</goals>
</execution>
</executions>
</plugin>
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-surefire-plugin</artifactId>
<version>2.11</version>
<executions>
<execution>
<id>integration-test</id>
<phase>integration-test</phase>
<goals>
<goal>test</goal>
</goals>
<configuration>
<skip>false</skip>
<includes>
<include>**/*.java</include>
</includes>
</configuration>
</execution>
</executions>
</plugin>
Best is to change the location of your test classes to src/test/java and change the name of the stories based on the documentation of JBehave.
JBehave running with maven follow the Maven rules for location of code and text artifacts.
For test scope you must put them in src/test/java and src/test/resources. For compile scopes is src/main/java and src/main/resources.
With JBehave with maven you could use two scopes (test or compile), you just need to set which one you want in the plugin configuration, so you choose where to put your artifacts. it defaults to compile.
In your case you are adding a new test source so you must set the scope to test:
see detail here.
Maybe the jbehave-maven-plugin could not find the compiled test classes (scenarios) because it looks in the wrong classpath.
Please look at your target directory and search the embeddable classes -> target/classes or target/test-classes?
To solve the problem i must set the scope of jbehave-maven-plugin to test in the configuration of my project pom.xml.
here is a example
<plugin>
<groupId>org.jbehave</groupId>
<artifactId>jbehave-maven-plugin</artifactId>
<executions>
<execution>
<id>run-stories-as-embeddables</id>
<phase>integration-test</phase>
<goals>
<goal>run-stories-as-embeddables</goal>
</goals>
<configuration>
<scope>test</scope>
<includes>
<include>**/*Scenarios.java</include>
</includes>
<ignoreFailureInStories>true</ignoreFailureInStories>
<ignoreFailureInView>false</ignoreFailureInView>
</configuration>
</execution>
