How to get current location within a Google Maps Fragment in a ViewPager with TabLayout

I managed to implement a TabLayout. Within one of the tabs is a Google Maps Fragment. I want to ask permission to access the user's location and then place a marker on the current location. As of right now, the dialog box does not show up and I do not know why. Can anyone help me?

This is very close to my other answer here, however, that answer doesn't explain how to do it using a ViewPager with a TabLayout.
First, the piece that sets this apart from the other answer, you'll need to keep a reference to the current Fragment in the FragmentPagerAdapter using the instantiateItem() override.
Also, note that the onRequestPermissionsResult() method is needed here in the Activity in order to route the user's permission request response to the Fragment.
Here is the full Activity code:
public class MainActivity extends AppCompatActivity {
ViewPager viewPager;
PagerAdapter pagerAdapter;
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
Toolbar toolbar = (Toolbar) findViewById(R.id.toolbar);
setSupportActionBar(toolbar);
// Get the ViewPager and set it's PagerAdapter so that it can display items
viewPager = (ViewPager) findViewById(R.id.viewpager);
pagerAdapter = new PagerAdapter(getSupportFragmentManager(), MainActivity.this);
viewPager.setAdapter(pagerAdapter);
// Give the TabLayout the ViewPager
TabLayout tabLayout = (TabLayout) findViewById(R.id.tab_layout);
tabLayout.setupWithViewPager(viewPager);
// Iterate over all tabs and set the custom view
for (int i = 0; i < tabLayout.getTabCount(); i++) {
TabLayout.Tab tab = tabLayout.getTabAt(i);
tab.setCustomView(pagerAdapter.getTabView(i));
}
}
class PagerAdapter extends FragmentPagerAdapter {
String tabTitles[] = new String[] { "Tab One", "Tab Two", "Tab Three", };
public Fragment[] fragments = new Fragment[tabTitles.length];
Context context;
public PagerAdapter(FragmentManager fm, Context context) {
super(fm);
this.context = context;
}
#Override
public int getCount() {
return tabTitles.length;
}
#Override
public Fragment getItem(int position) {
switch (position) {
case 0:
return new MapFragment();
case 1:
return new BlankFragment();
case 2:
return new BlankFragment();
}
return null;
}
#Override
public CharSequence getPageTitle(int position) {
// Generate title based on item position
return tabTitles[position];
}
public View getTabView(int position) {
View tab = LayoutInflater.from(MainActivity.this).inflate(R.layout.custom_tab, null);
TextView tv = (TextView) tab.findViewById(R.id.custom_text);
tv.setText(tabTitles[position]);
return tab;
}
//This populates your Fragment reference array:
#Override
public Object instantiateItem(ViewGroup container, int position) {
Fragment createdFragment = (Fragment) super.instantiateItem(container, position);
fragments[position] = createdFragment;
return createdFragment;
}
}
#Override
public void onRequestPermissionsResult(int requestCode,
String permissions[], int[] grantResults) {

java.lang.ClassCastException: manishsaran.maper.MapsActivity$1 cannot
be cast to android.location.LocationListener
Issue is your LocationListener you should import it through
import android.location.LocationListener;
and Implement its all method like this:
private final LocationListener mLocationListener = new LocationListener() {
#Override
public void onLocationChanged(final Location location) {
//your code here
tv1 = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.tv1);
tv1.setText("Latitude:" + location.getLatitude() + ", Longitude:" + location.getLongitude());
}

public void onStatusChanged(String s, int i, Bundle bundle) {
}
#Override
public void onProviderEnabled(String s) {
}
#Override
public void onProviderDisabled(String s) {

};
And there is no need of casting your locationListener :
locationManager.requestLocationUpdates(LocationManager.GPS_PROVIDER, 3000, 0, mLocationListener);

Please tell me how to get location when i installed and then open it for first time.Using my source code.
Thanks
In marshmallow you can not get location until user permit location access to the application in runtime.
As user permit location permission restart your activity
Intent intent= new Intent(MainActivity.this,MainActivity.class);
startActivity(intent);
finish();
Why did not show first time : Because you didn't handle after granting.
Why did you show on second time : Because you've previously granted the permission.
#Override
public void onRequestPermissionsResult(int requestCode, String permissions[], int[] grantResults) {
switch (requestCode) {
case PERMISSION_REQUEST_CODE:
if (grantResults.length > 0 && grantResults[0] == PackageManager.PERMISSION_GRANTED) {
// TRY GETTING THE LOCATION HERE ON FIRST TIME (AFTER GRANTING)
Location mLastLocation = LocationServices.FusedLocationApi.getLastLocation(mGoogleApiClient);
} else {}
break;
}
}

Android fused location provider : OnLocationChange never called

I have a big problem with fused location provider api , all the methods I ovveride (for example in onConnected I get the last location known) are working except OnLocation change I don't know really what's the problem because I use the same code in other fragment with MapView and it works without any problem.
This is my code :
public class MissionsFragment extends Fragment implements
SwipeRefreshLayout.OnRefreshListener,
GoogleApiClient.ConnectionCallbacks,
GoogleApiClient.OnConnectionFailedListener,
LocationListener{
LocationRequest mLocationRequest;
GoogleApiClient mGoogleApiClient;
LatLng latLng;
View view;
#Override
public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, ViewGroup container,
Bundle savedInstanceState) {
view = inflater.inflate(R.layout.fragment_jobs, container, false);
ButterKnife.bind(this, view);
return view;
}
#Override
public void onActivityCreated(#Nullable Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onActivityCreated(savedInstanceState);
buildGoogleApiClient();
mGoogleApiClient.connect();
}
#Override
public void onConnected(#Nullable Bundle bundle) {
Location mLastLocation = LocationServices.FusedLocationApi.getLastLocation(mGoogleApiClient);
if (mLastLocation != null) {
latLng = new LatLng(mLastLocation.getLatitude(), mLastLocation.getLongitude());
Toast.makeText(getActivity(), latLng.toString(), Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
}
mLocationRequest = new LocationRequest();
mLocationRequest.setInterval(2000);
mLocationRequest.setFastestInterval(1000);
mLocationRequest.setPriority(LocationRequest.PRIORITY_BALANCED_POWER_ACCURACY);
//mLocationRequest.setSmallestDisplacement(0.1F); //1/10 meter
LocationServices.FusedLocationApi.requestLocationUpdates(mGoogleApiClient, mLocationRequest, this);
}
#Override
public void onConnectionSuspended(int i) {
}
#Override
public void onLocationChanged(Location location) {
latLng = new LatLng(location.getLatitude(), location.getLongitude());
Toast.makeText(getActivity(), latLng.toString(), Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
}
#Override
public void onConnectionFailed(#NonNull ConnectionResult connectionResult) {
}
protected synchronized void buildGoogleApiClient() {
mGoogleApiClient = new GoogleApiClient.Builder(getActivity())
.addConnectionCallbacks(this)
.addOnConnectionFailedListener(this)
.addApi(LocationServices.API)
.build();
}
#Override
public void onPause() {
super.onPause();
if (mGoogleApiClient != null) {
LocationServices.FusedLocationApi.removeLocationUpdates(mGoogleApiClient, this);
}
}
}
is it necessary to get the location if we use MapView only or I should update soemthing in my current code ?
