When I try to run the UI and webservice in tomcat 8 I receive the error. java.lang.AbstractMethodError: javax.ws.rs.core.UriBuilder.uri(Ljava/lang/String;)Ljavax/ws/rs/core/UriBuilder;
I checked most of the SO questions related to this exception and tried all the suggestions but none of them work for me. I am stuck here. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance
Just adding in case it someone face the issue. I resolved the issue by following this link

I have a maven-based app that I copied exactly and tried to run mvn jetty:run
And now getting this error:

The weird thing is the same exact copy of the project that works on the other machine.

The reason is that the class javax.servlet.jsp.JspFactory does not exist in servlet-api artifact. It exists in jsp-api artifact. I exploded the 2 jars and here's the result:
Add the jsp-api dependency according to the version you need, e.g.:
<dependency>
<groupId>javax.servlet.jsp</groupId>
<artifactId>jsp-api</artifactId>
<version>2.0</version>
<scope>provided</scope>
</dependency>
You can use the below dependency in pom.xml
<dependency>
<groupId>org.apache.tomcat.embed</groupId>
<artifactId>tomcat-embed-jasper</artifactId>
<scope>compile</scope>
</dependency>
tomcat-embed-jasper: provides support for .jsp file rendering.
I added both the dependencies from both the previous answers and removed the dependency that I added from the maven repository. Copying both dependencies so it won't create any confusion after some more answers are added.
<dependency>
<groupId>org.apache.tomcat.embed</groupId>
<artifactId>tomcat-embed-jasper</artifactId>
<scope>compile</scope>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>javax.servlet.jsp</groupId>
<artifactId>jsp-api</artifactId>
<version>2.0</version>
<scope>provided</scope>
</dependency>

note to
javax.servlet-api
instead of
servlet-api
include maven dependency for javax.servlet api, something like this
<dependency>
<groupId>javax.servlet</groupId>
<artifactId>servlet-api</artifactId>
<version>3.0</version>
<scope>provided</scope>
Refer this for more
After spending 4 hours on this thing, finally found the solution.
The thing is since Servlet API 5.0, the API moved from the package javax.servlet to jakarta.servlet
So instead of adding dependency of javax , add dependency of jakarta in pom of the project
<dependency>
<groupId>jakarta.servlet</groupId>
<artifactId>jakarta.servlet-api</artifactId>
<version>5.0.0</version>
</dependency>
I have a maven web application with the following project facets enabled.
Dynamic Web Project 3.0
JAX-RS REst Web Services 2.0

What I am basically trying to do is expose one of our functionalities as a RESTful web service, for which, I am using Jersey packages.
When I hit the rest URL, I am getting the following exception.

I was using Jersey 2.19 packages earlier but then changed to 2.13. I have tried doing maven clean and maven build as well as Eclipse IDE's clean and build project multiple times.
In jersey-client 2.13 documentation, I find the getValue method available under ClientProperties class. Can someone help me identify why the issue still occurs?
To resolve these kind of errors, I usually, always update the sources of all the dependencies available in the POM.
Use the below command to fetch all sources of the jar files:
mvn dependency:sources
Now go back to eclipse, use the Ctrl + Shift + T, to find the 'org.glassfish.jersey.client.ClientProperties' file, and verify the getValue() method(s).
If you find the right method (with correct order of parameters), then it is a run time issue. Check your server lib to find any older(new) versions of that jar.
I'm trying to get data from a server given a id every thing is working well, so i want to handle the exceptions in my code like invalid id such that for that id there is no data at server the server throws me some error so i want to handle that exception so i tried to use web exception but spring is not detecting it
error is:
WebException cannot be resolved to a type

my java file:
try{
result = restTemplate.exchange("https://example.com/{id}", HttpMethod.GET, new HttpEntity<String>(createHeaders()), String.class);
}

System.out.println(e);
}
I followed the guide here http://docs.neo4j.org/chunked/milestone/server-java-rest-client-example.html on how to send a POST request. Using the below code I get the error java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: javax.ws.rs.ext.MessageBodyWriter.isWriteable which appears to be an issue with the library I'm using.
public Object getResponse(Object responseClass) {
Client client = Client.create();
WebResource webResource = client.resource(getUrl());
ClientResponse response = webResource
.type(MediaType.APPLICATION_JSON)
.entity(responseClass)
.post(ClientResponse.class);
if (response.getStatus() != 201)
return null;
return response.getEntity(responseClass.getClass());
}
I am unsure if I'm missing a dependency or what...

It seems that you have different javax.ws.rs.ext.MessageBodyWriter classes in your classpath. One is from jsr311-api-0.8.jar and the other one is from jersey-core-1.17.jar. So please manage the dependencies carefully.
By the way, if you use tools, like JFind (find a class in a directory/JAR) and jd-gui (decompile a JAR), you can resolve this kind of issues easily.
The following is my JFind output:
ClassName = javax/ws/rs/ext/MessageBodyWriter.class
JarName = C:\Users\lhuang\.m2\repository\com\sun\jersey\jersey-core\1.17\jersey-core-1.17.jar
----------------
