I am a newbie in making web application development and I'm trying to make a website that plays video using embedded Tomcat and maven. I have only one static jsp file and I can run the program on intellij on localhost but I am finding extreme difficulties to run this project in cmd with the command line (mvn exec). My main goal is to run this program on a server I rented and then using the domain name I registered to access the website. Here is my pom.xml file
pom.xml

Add this dependency to your pom.xml
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.tomcat.maven</groupId>
<artifactId>tomcat7-maven-plugin</artifactId>
<version>2.2</version>
<configuration>
<port>9090</port>
<path>/</path>
</configuration>
</plugin>
And then you can run the maven task provided by this new plugin like this
mvn tomcat7:run
#piy26
Thanks for the solution.
But it is useful when we want to test the application on local where web server is not installed.
#Karan, for local you can use above solution.
But for running the code on the server, I will suggest to run mvn clean package command and as described in your pom.xml it will build a war and this you can keep in web server directory and start the web server.
This has to be done on the server you rented. I will suggest go with AWS free tier for now.
I know this a long process and to avoid this you can use Spring Boot where no need to deploy war files web server is embeded.
Hope this helps:)

I have a application which I am running using eclipse and tomcat 9 server.
When I run the application, its opens then index.html page in browser, but the API's called inside index page are erroring with 404 status.
I tried multiple things from various stackoverflow page but nothing seems to work.
I have a Httpservlet with following declaration
#WebServlet("/api/modules")
public class ModuleController extends HttpServlet {
#Override
public void doGet(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws IOException {
// logic
}
}
Even if I directly try to hit localhost:8080/application-context/api/modules
I get the same 404 error.
Also my application doesn't have a web.xml.
Note: The application is working fine on other people's system.
Following is the pom.xml for reference.

404 error reference:

Message The requested resource [/academia-02/api/modules] is not available
Description The origin server did not find a current representation for the target resource or is not willing to disclose that one exists.
Also I have already tried the following:
Changing tomcat version
adding a web.xml
clean build the application and then run on tomcat
checked that generated classes contains the Servlet class in proper location
Update tomcat properties -> Switch location
Update tomcat properties -> user tomcat installation in server location
Can you please let me know what can be done here ?
You're declaring a dependency on Servlet Spec 5.0 (and explicitly state that you're using a Jakarta servlet).
Thus, it's mandatory that you're using Tomcat 10. Works as declared/designed. Not an issue.
I've a problem with my netbeans project on linux ( running on kali linux ).
Even if the build (without run) works , i cant run my project and i've this error :

I tried to create a new project but it seems that the problem comes from netbeans configuration .
Could you help me please ?
Thank you in advance !
It seems as if the maven exec plugin is not well configured.
Have a look at the documentation: The plugin offers two goals exec and java
I am using the plugin with exec:java (run in same jvm) and you need to configure the MainClass like this:
<plugin>
<groupId>org.codehaus.mojo</groupId>
<artifactId>exec-maven-plugin</artifactId>
<configuration>
<mainClass>your.context.MainClass</mainClass>
</configuration>
</plugin>
On the other case (exec:exec) you should specify the executable as described in the specification / sample
I am trying to build a JAR file out of a spring project. When I try to do a maven install, it throws me the following error
Failed to execute goal org.springframework.boot:spring-boot-maven-plugin:1.4.0.RELEASE:repackage (default) on project ABC: Execution default of goal org.springframework.boot:spring-boot-maven-plugin:1.4.0.RELEASE:repackage failed: Unable to rename 'ABC-0.0.1-SNAPSHOT.jar' to 'ABC-0.0.1-SNAPSHOT.jar.original' ->

I tried to look in SO and other forums for a possible solution. But none of them worked. Any pointers as to where the problem might be ?
While the problem did not completely disappear, what solved the problem for now is by using the answer from SO
<plugin>
<groupId>org.springframework.boot</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-boot-maven-plugin</artifactId>
<configuration>
<classifier>boot</classifier>
</configuration>
</plugin>
It now creates an additional *.jar file (ABC-boot.jar).
TL;DR: check for special characters in the Jar name
In my case, the problem was related to these lines in the pom.xml:
<version>1.0.0-${maven.build.timestamp}</version>
<maven.build.timestamp.format>yyyy-MM-dd-HH:mm</maven.build.timestamp.format>
Interestingly, this is OS specific - I got the same error as the asker when doing a mvn clean install. It worked on Linux.
I'm simply trying to list the contents of my Google Cloud Storage bucket from my GAE (java) using the following code:
GcsService gcsService = GcsServiceFactory.createGcsService(new RetryParams.Builder()
.initialRetryDelayMillis(10)
.retryMaxAttempts(10)
.totalRetryPeriodMillis(15000)
.build());
try{
ListResult list = gcsService.list("MyTestBucket", new ListOptions.Builder().setPrefix("testFolder").setRecursive(true).build());
}
It compiles, but when I run it I get the following error which I don't understand:
Caused by: java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: com.google.appengine.tools.cloudstorage.GcsService.list(Ljava/lang/String;Lcom/google/appengine/tools/cloudstorage/ListOptions;)Lcom/google/appengine/tools/cloudstorage/ListResult;
The POM dependency looks like this to include Google Storage:
<dependency>
<groupId>com.google.appengine.tools</groupId>
<artifactId>appengine-gcs-client</artifactId>
<version>0.6</version>
</dependency>
I've tried various <exclusions> but can't seem to make it work.
Thanks
Tim

Fixed it! I looked in the .war file and found that there were two versions of the appengine-gcs-client jar files. 0.2 and 0.6. I did an mvn clean and it sorted the problem. I really should have done that before :-( Live and learn!
Try removing <enableJarClasses>false</enableJarClasses>. I suspect this is causing the JAR for the GCS library not be be included in the artifact ran on GAE. As a result required classes might be missing.
We already use Apache CXF in our project and I wondering if it is possible to implement push RESTful service (the feature introduced with Servlet 3.0 spec) within CXF 2.7?
Yes..... Download cxf-3.0.0 framework zip( here is the link). on extracting you can find samples directory(number of sample cxf projects are there for our reference). In our case select jax_rs/websocket directory. You can find sample push customer maven project. I modified the existing pom.xml as below and imported to eclipse and worked perfectly.
<project xmlns="http://maven.apache.org/POM/4.0.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://maven.apache.org/POM/4.0.0 http://maven.apache.org/maven-v4_0_0.xsd">
