I am trying out Spring Batches to run details in MySQL database, I did some debugging but I just cannot seem to get pass the error at #EnableBatchProcessing...
I did a thorough search on what may be my error and what I may have done wrong but to no avail... what I think may be the problem is the dependency errors? But I've tried installing different versions/dependencies but it just comes up with more errors... Please advice T.T
This is my complete console error shown...

You need to define a JobBuilderFactory bean
#Bean
public JobBuilderFactory jobBuilderFactory() throws Exception {
JobBuilderFactory jobBuilderFactory = new JobBuilderFactory(jobRepository());
return jobBuilderFactory;
}
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: javax.batch.runtime.JobInstance means you have a dependency resolution issue and the JSR-352 jar is not in your classpath. I would recommend to use the spring-boot-starter-batch and let spring boot manage dependencies instead of manually importing spring-batch-core and spring-batch-infrastrucutre and set their version to 4.1.0.
You need to:
remove spring-batch-core and spring-batch-infrastrucutre and replace them with spring-boot-starter-batch (without specifying the version, Spring Boot will import the right version)
In your SpringBatchConfig, you autowire the datasource and you define it as a bean at the same time. While this is not an issue, I don't see why you need to autowire the datasource in this class, so you can try to remove #Autowired public DataSource dataSource; and make the #Bean public static DataSource dataSource() non static.
Hope this helps.
add #EnableBatchProcessing on the Main Application class "DemoApplication"
#SpringBootApplication
#EnableBatchProcessing
public class DemoApplication {
public static void main(String[] args) {
Logger logger = Logger.getLogger("SpringBatchConfig.java");
logger.info("starting project...");
.
.
.
}
}

This code works fine when I don't use database connection and generate data directly from PostService class.
I have also connected to my DB in intellij view>tools>database>add DB postgres and the test connection works fine.

In your JPA entity, you need to create a no-arg constructor in the Post class.
constructor is required to have Hibernate initialize the entity; private is allowed but package-private (or public) visibility is required for runtime proxy generation and efficient data retrieval without bytecode instrumentation.
If you are on Java 11 or later version, javassist should be on the classpath
<dependency>
<groupId>org.javassist</groupId>
<artifactId>javassist</artifactId>
<version>3.23.1-GA</version>
</dependency>
Started working with spring boot recently. Trying to create a simple login so I can start to migrate my spring mvc project to spring boot. However keep getting the error :
unable to start web server; nested exception is org.springframework.boot.web.server.WebServerException: Unable to start embedded Tomcat.
I have gone through all of the stackoverflow and articles related to Unable to start embedded tomcat. For example, I have tried changing the pom.xml to older versions, I have tried changing the port as some said that may be the problem and I have tried changing the annotated call at the start of the spring boot controller to #EnableAutoConfiguration and #SpringBootApplication this doesn't seem to change the error log at all.
I have also tried changing the java version and have tried it by using both java 8 and 10.

Any help would be great, please let me know if there isn't enough information.
First, you usually can find the root cause on last Caused by statement for debugging.
Therefore, according to the error log you posted, Caused by: org.hibernate.HibernateException: Access to DialectResolutionInfo cannot be null when 'hibernate.dialect' not set should be key!
Although Hibernate is database agnostic, we can specify the current database dialect to let it generate better SQL queries for that database. Therefore, this exception can be solved by simply identifying hibernate.dialect in your properties file as follows:
For application.properties:
spring.jpa.database-platform=org.hibernate.dialect.MySQL5Dialect
For application.yml:
spring:
jpa:
database-platform: org.hibernate.dialect.MySQL5Dialect
Resolved it by adding a missing property to application.properties file.
spring.jpa.hibernate.ddl-auto=update
In my case:
I have created separate new project with the same code and in the same work-space.
Started the application.
This time tomcat started successfully in the first instance itself.
You can comment the scope in pom.xml like below
1: please create a new project, make it work well, and the tomcat is working well, 2: then copy the codes which you had write with your old project to the new
project.
3: is's work very well
it's maybe the old workplace with old project is broken, wo can't repair it
i hope i can help you!
Probably the port that tomcat is starting is busy. Check this.
Or simply define another port for your project, edit the application.properties file with the instruction.
Example
server.port=9000
I've already checked all the similar questions and every answer says that I need to specify a driverClassName which I already do. Here is my application.yml:
spring:
application:
name: cibus-backend
datasource:
driverClassName: com.mysql.cj.jdbc.Driver
url: jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/Cibus?useSSL=true
username: root
password: 1234567890
jpa:
show-sql: true
hibernate:
ddl-auto: update
properties:
hibernate:
format_sql: true
type: trace
database-platform: org.hibernate.dialect.MySQL5InnoDBDialect
database: mysql
logging:
level:
org:
hibernate:
type: trace
Am I missing something? The weird thing is that a classmate of mine who has the same code can start the app perfectly well. This is why I think it has something to do with the path. Maybe spring isn't accessing the yml file. I included it in src.main.resources which is the default place where Spring looks for it.
Here is the stacktrace:
Error starting ApplicationContext. To display the conditions report re-run
your application with 'debug' enabled.

To Fix the
Cannot determine embedded database error
Try Excluding the auto configuration of DataSource in the Spring Boot application class. You can do this using EnableAutoConfiguration
#EnableAutoConfiguration(exclude={DataSourceAutoConfiguration.class})
#SpringBootApplication
public class {...}
Also worth mentioning is what this looks like in Kotlin:
#SpringBootApplication(
exclude = [DataSourceAutoConfiguration::class]
)
class Launcher
...
... for those of us who write kotlin but who came here with the same error.
The solution that worked for me is the following
import org.springframework.boot.SpringApplication;
import org.springframework.boot.autoconfigure.EnableAutoConfiguration;
import org.springframework.boot.autoconfigure.SpringBootApplication;
import org.springframework.boot.autoconfigure.jdbc.DataSourceAutoConfiguration;
#EnableAutoConfiguration(exclude={DataSourceAutoConfiguration.class})
#SpringBootApplication
public class ApiApplication {
public static void main(String[] args) {
SpringApplication.run(ApiApplication.class, args);
}
}
you need to enable autoconfig to jdbc in spring boot
#EnableAutoConfiguration(exclude={DataSourceAutoConfiguration.class})
add these lines and import below libraries
#EnableAutoConfiguration(exclude={DataSourceAutoConfiguration.class})
#EnableAutoConfiguration(exclude={DataSourceAutoConfiguration.class})
this works fine.
Adding below annotation worked for me:
#EnableAutoConfiguration(exclude={DataSourceAutoConfiguration.class})
#SpringBootApplication
public class ApiApplication {
public static void main(String[] args) {
SpringApplication.run(ApiApplication.class, args);
}
}
Make sure your packaging attribute in pom.xml is war. It worked perfectly for me.
<packaging>war</packaging>
SOLVED:
My solution: I delete dataSource() method from DatabaseConfig.java. Then, the application was started successfully :)
I've just updated my Spring Boot project from 1.5.x to 2.0.0. Before the update, this application works properly but after the update, I'm getting some errors are below. What is the problem, can you help me?
I use PostgreSQL, Hibernate, JPA in the project.
I've tried also this but it doesn't work for me.
Thanks for your time :)

As this post gets a bit of popularity I edited it a bit.
Spring Boot 2.x.x changed default JDBC connection pool from Tomcat to faster and better HikariCP. Here comes incompatibility, because HikariCP uses different property of jdbc url. There are two ways how to handle it:
OPTION ONE
There is very good explanation and workaround in spring docs:
Also, if you happen to have Hikari on the classpath, this basic setup does not work, because Hikari has no url property (but does have a jdbcUrl property). In that case, you must rewrite your configuration as follows:
app.datasource.jdbc-url=jdbc:mysql://localhost/test
app.datasource.username=dbuser
app.datasource.password=dbpass
OPTION TWO
There is also how-to in the docs how to get it working from "both worlds". It would look like below. ConfigurationProperties bean would do "conversion" for jdbcUrl from app.datasource.url
#Configuration
public class DatabaseConfig {
#Bean
#ConfigurationProperties("app.datasource")
public DataSourceProperties dataSourceProperties() {
return new DataSourceProperties();
}
#Bean
#ConfigurationProperties("app.datasource")
public HikariDataSource dataSource(DataSourceProperties properties) {
return properties.initializeDataSourceBuilder().type(HikariDataSource.class)
.build();
}
}
This happened to me because I was using:
app.datasource.url=jdbc:mysql://localhost/test
When I replaced url by jdbc-url then it worked:
app.datasource.jdbc-url=jdbc:mysql://localhost/test
In case you do need to define dataSource(), for example when you have multiple data sources, you can use:
#Autowired Environment env;
#Primary
#Bean
public DataSource customDataSource() {
DriverManagerDataSource dataSource = new DriverManagerDataSource();
dataSource.setDriverClassName(env.getProperty("custom.datasource.driver-class-name"));
dataSource.setUrl(env.getProperty("custom.datasource.url"));
dataSource.setUsername(env.getProperty("custom.datasource.username"));
dataSource.setPassword(env.getProperty("custom.datasource.password"));
return dataSource;
}
By setting up the dataSource yourself (instead of using DataSourceBuilder), it fixed my problem which you also had.
The always knowledgeable Baeldung has a tutorial which explains in depth.
I also read the Spring docs, as lapkritinis suggested - and luckily this brought me on the right path! But I don´t think, that the Spring docs explain this good right now. At least for me, they aren´t consistent IMHO.
The original problem/question is on what to do, if you upgrade an existing Spring Boot 1.5.x application to 2.0.x, which is using PostgreSQL/Hibernate. The main reason, you get your described error, is that Spring Boot 2.0.x uses HikariCP instead of Tomcat JDBC pooling DataSource as a default - and Hikari´s DataSource doesn´t know the spring.datasource.url property, instead it want´s to have spring.datasource.jdbc-url (lapkritinis also pointed that out).
So far so good. BUT the docs also suggest - and that´s the problem here - that Spring Boot uses spring.datasource.url to determine, if the - often locally used - embedded Database like H2 has to back off and instead use a production Database:
You should at least specify the URL by setting the
spring.datasource.url property. Otherwise, Spring Boot tries to
auto-configure an embedded database.
You may see the dilemma. If you want to have your embedded DataBase like you´re used to, you have to switch back to Tomcat JDBC. This is also much more minimally invasive to existing applications, as you don´t have to change source code! To get your existing application working after the Spring Boot 1.5.x --> 2.0.x upgrade with PostgreSQL, just add tomcat-jdbc as a dependency to your pom.xml:
<dependency>
<groupId>org.apache.tomcat</groupId>
<artifactId>tomcat-jdbc</artifactId>
</dependency>
And then configure Spring Boot to use it accordingly inside application.properties:
spring.datasource.type=org.apache.tomcat.jdbc.pool.DataSource
Hope to help some folks with this, was quite a time consuming problem. I also hope my beloved Spring folks update the docs - and the way new Hikari pool is configured - to get a more consistent Spring Boot user experience :)
This worked for me.
application.properties, used jdbc-url instead of url:
datasource.apidb.jdbc-url=jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/apidb?useSSL=false
datasource.apidb.username=root
datasource.apidb.password=123
datasource.apidb.driver-class-name=com.mysql.jdbc.Driver
Configuration class:
#Configuration
#EnableJpaRepositories(
entityManagerFactoryRef = "fooEntityManagerFactory",
basePackages = {"com.buddhi.multidatasource.foo.repository"}
)
public class FooDataSourceConfig {
#Bean(name = "fooDataSource")
#ConfigurationProperties(prefix = "datasource.foo")
public HikariDataSource dataSource() {
return DataSourceBuilder.create().type(HikariDataSource.class).build();
}
#Bean(name = "fooEntityManagerFactory")
public LocalContainerEntityManagerFactoryBean fooEntityManagerFactory(
EntityManagerFactoryBuilder builder,
#Qualifier("fooDataSource") DataSource dataSource
) {
return builder
.dataSource(dataSource)
.packages("com.buddhi.multidatasource.foo.model")
.persistenceUnit("fooDb")
.build();
}
}
Configure Two DataSources in Spring Boot 2.0.* or above
If you need to configure multiple data sources, you have to mark one of the DataSource instances as #Primary, because various auto-configurations down the road expect to be able to get one by type.
If you create your own DataSource, the auto-configuration backs off. In the following example, we provide the exact same feature set as the auto-configuration provides on the primary data source:
#Bean
#Primary
#ConfigurationProperties("app.datasource.first")
public DataSourceProperties firstDataSourceProperties() {
return new DataSourceProperties();
}
#Bean
#Primary
#ConfigurationProperties("app.datasource.first")
public DataSource firstDataSource() {
return firstDataSourceProperties().initializeDataSourceBuilder().build();
}
#Bean
#ConfigurationProperties("app.datasource.second")
public BasicDataSource secondDataSource() {
return DataSourceBuilder.create().type(BasicDataSource.class).build();
}
firstDataSourceProperties has to be flagged as #Primary so that the database initializer feature uses your copy (if you use the initializer).
And your application.propoerties will look something like this:
app.datasource.first.url=jdbc:oracle:thin:#localhost/first
app.datasource.first.username=dbuser
app.datasource.first.password=dbpass
app.datasource.first.driver-class-name=oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver
app.datasource.second.url=jdbc:mariadb://localhost:3306/springboot_mariadb
app.datasource.second.username=dbuser
app.datasource.second.password=dbpass
app.datasource.second.driver-class-name=org.mariadb.jdbc.Driver
The above method is the correct to way to init multiple database in spring boot 2.0 migration and above. More read can be found here.
I have added in Application Class
#Bean
#ConfigurationProperties("app.datasource")
public DataSource dataSource() {
return DataSourceBuilder.create().build();
}
application.properties I have added
app.datasource.url=jdbc:mysql://localhost/test
app.datasource.username=dbuser
app.datasource.password=dbpass
app.datasource.pool-size=30
More details Configure a Custom DataSource
Others have answered so I'll add my 2-cents.
You can either use autoconfiguration (i.e. don't use a #Configuration to create a datasource) or java configuration.
Auto-configuration:
define your datasource type then set the type properties. E.g.
spring.datasource.type=com.zaxxer.hikari.HikariDataSource
spring.datasource.hikari.driver-class-name=org.h2.Driver
spring.datasource.hikari.jdbc-url=jdbc:h2:mem:testdb
spring.datasource.hikari.username=sa
spring.datasource.hikari.password=password
spring.datasource.hikari.max-wait=10000
spring.datasource.hikari.connection-timeout=30000
spring.datasource.hikari.idle-timeout=600000
spring.datasource.hikari.max-lifetime=1800000
spring.datasource.hikari.leak-detection-threshold=600000
spring.datasource.hikari.maximum-pool-size=100
spring.datasource.hikari.pool-name=MyDataSourcePoolName
Java configuration:
Choose a prefix and define your data source
spring.mysystem.datasource.type=com.zaxxer.hikari.HikariDataSource
spring.mysystem.datasource.jdbc-
url=jdbc:sqlserver://databaseserver.com:18889;Database=MyDatabase;
spring.mysystem.datasource.username=dsUsername
spring.mysystem.datasource.password=dsPassword
spring.mysystem.datasource.driver-class-name=com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver
spring.mysystem.datasource.max-wait=10000
spring.mysystem.datasource.connection-timeout=30000
spring.mysystem.datasource.idle-timeout=600000
spring.mysystem.datasource.max-lifetime=1800000
spring.mysystem.datasource.leak-detection-threshold=600000
spring.mysystem.datasource.maximum-pool-size=100
spring.mysystem.datasource.pool-name=MySystemDatasourcePool
Create your datasource bean:
#Bean(name = { "dataSource", "mysystemDataSource" })
#ConfigurationProperties(prefix = "spring.mysystem.datasource")
public DataSource dataSource() {
return DataSourceBuilder.create().build();
}
You can leave the datasource type out, but then you risk spring guessing what datasource type to use.
Your can use DataSourceBuilder for this purpose.
#Primary
#Bean(name = "dataSource")
#ConfigurationProperties(prefix = "spring.datasource")
public DataSource dataSource(Environment env) {
final String datasourceUsername = env.getRequiredProperty("spring.datasource.username");
final String datasourcePassword = env.getRequiredProperty("spring.datasource.password");
final String datasourceUrl = env.getRequiredProperty("spring.datasource.url");
final String datasourceDriver = env.getRequiredProperty("spring.datasource.driver-class-name");
return DataSourceBuilder
.create()
.username(datasourceUsername)
.password(datasourcePassword)
.url(datasourceUrl)
.driverClassName(datasourceDriver)
.build();
}
This is working at my side. Hope it helps someone who are facing this issue.
database.properties:
jdbcUrl=jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/candelete
dataSource.user=root
dataSource.password=
dataSource.cachePrepStmts=true
dataSource.prepStmtCacheSize=250
dataSource.prepStmtCacheSqlLimit=2048
I have created basic spring-boot application with tomcat container. After building jar using maven, I run it as java -jar mybootapp-1.0.0.jar. Then following error was occurred. Any way I using mvn spring-boot:run command to run the app, Its running nicely. But What is the reason for giving errors with normal jar file run.

You need to make the below changes in pom.xml file if you want to deploy the war in tomcat.
1) In pom.xml file , make scope as provided for embedded server
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework.boot</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-boot-starter-undertow</artifactId>
<scope>provided</scope>
</dependency>
or
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework.boot</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-boot-starter-tomcat</artifactId>
<scope>provided</scope>
</dependency>
2) In pom.xml file, make packaging as war
<packaging>war</packaging>
1.4.3.RELEASE currently appears to be missing from the mirrors
https://repo.maven.apache.org/maven2/org/springframework/boot/spring-boot-starter-parent/
only goes to 1.4.2
Since the tomcat server is default container for spring boot application you don't need to specify the tomcat dependencies explicitly. I would recommend and strongly suggest you to use Spring Initializer to kick start with spring boot application.
May i know, why your application class extending from SpringBootServletInitializer? Are you planning to do hot deployment.?
