I am trying to do a program in which a user will be able to create folios and buy/sell stocks etc. I want to create a save button so the user will be able to save its current folio. The IPortofolioDb is an interface of the PortofolioDb where all the methods for the user data are implemented. I tried to do the follow but it doesnt work and i literally run out of ides. Can anyone help me ?

I want to close my server when I press the stop button in my GUI. I use this code for the socket, which is listening if a client is connection to the serverSocket:

How can I properly close the server and it's components?
Instead of abruptly closing down the serversocket, close the stream.
Try this:

I am writing a java application to convert audio file from mp3 to mp3 or other formats. I am using JAVE library. The encode method of Encoder class is a blocking method. So, I tried to run it in a separate thread. It compresses successfully but It is giving Null Pointer Exception.
Please tell me the correct way to call encode method in a new thread. How do I avoid IllegalStateException?

Best solution for multi-threading issues are to use SwingWorker.
It basically divides the work to a background phase, after which occurs a GUI update stage.
A basic example:

EDIT: I forgot to clarify that I need to unmarshall a list of objects to a JList in my GUI. Sofar I am only able to save the list of objects from a JList into xml.
You need to ensure that getPcParts doesn't return null, either by initializing the field or by doing a lazy init in the getter:

The way JAXB unmarshals lists is a bit unusual - it doesn't call the setter, instead it assumes that the getter returns a mutable list which it can add to. The unmarshaller essentially does

for each Pcpart element in the XML.

I have tried to create a custom JButton. I tried to paint its caption via the paintComponent method but i did not like the font rendering of this method. So I added a JLabel to my button which worked fine in first place but after removing the parts for the paintString stuff the compiler throws errors i do not know how to fix/solve. Also what can I improve?

The problem is here in the constructor of myImageButton:
parent = parent;
The local parent JFrame reference is assigned to itself. Subsequently in paintComponent, the class member variable parent is null producing an NPE. You want
this.parent = parent;
Also what can I improve?
Don't use null layout, always use a layout manager
The JButton component already offers the functionality provided by the custom button by using the following methods: setBorder, setPressedIcon, setRollOverIcon
Follow Java naming conventions. Classes start with an uppercase letter such as MyImageButton
It looks like you are trying to center the text on top of the button icon. The API handles this:
button.setHorizontalTextPosition(JButton.CENTER);
button.setVerticalTextPosition(JButton.CENTER);
The API also handles different icons. Check the API for any method with "Icon" in the method name.
