Cannot perfom Unit test due to context problem? - java

I'm trying to perform a basic unit test to save data to in-memory H2 database. Then retrieve and compare it. But I'm stuck on some kind of context problem which i cannot find solution in google.
This is my structure:
This is my Test:
And finally my application.properties for the test package:
When i try to run the test, this is what i get:
java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: org.springframework.util.Assert.state(ZLjava/util/function/Supplier;)V

Your dependencies are a mess. You are mixing Spring Boot 1.5.7 with Spring Boot 2.0.4. Which leads to mixing Spring 4.3 and 5.0, next to that you add a Spring Test dependency for Spring 5.1.1 adding yet another version into the mix. Not to mention the Spring Security versions.
So in short your dependencies are a mess. Don't include the junit and spring-test dependency instead use spring-boot-starter-test. The same applies for security use spring-boot-starter-security instead.
For the starters don't use a version attribute all of those are managed through your parent declaration for the spring-boot-starter-parent.
Apparently you aren't using JUnit5 (yet) so you might want to remove those dependencies as well.
Finally Spring Boot will manage the H2 and MySQL version for you if you want to override those do that in the properties section by declaring the a h2.version and/or mysql.version property. All in all you can remove the version tag for those dependencies as well.
Your dependencies section should look something like this.
<dependencies>
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework.boot</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-boot-starter-data-jpa</artifactId>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework.boot</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-boot-starter-web</artifactId>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework.boot</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-boot-starter-security</artifactId>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework.boot</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-boot-starter-mail</artifactId>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework.boot</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-boot-devtools</artifactId>
<scope>runtime</scope>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>mysql</groupId>
<artifactId>mysql-connector-java</artifactId>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework.boot</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-boot-starter-test</artifactId>
<scope>test</scope>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>com.h2database</groupId>
<artifactId>h2</artifactId>
<scope>test</scope>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>it.ozimov</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-boot-email-core</artifactId>
<version>0.6.3</version>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>org.quartz-scheduler</groupId>
<artifactId>quartz</artifactId>
<version>2.3.0</version>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>com.fasterxml.jackson.datatype</groupId>
<artifactId>jackson-datatype-jsr310</artifactId>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>org.quartz-scheduler</groupId>
<artifactId>quartz-jobs</artifactId>
<version>2.3.0</version>
</dependency>
</dependencies>

You are most likely mixing spring-core and spring-test dependency versions which leads to NoSuchMethodError. Review your project setup and ensure that all Spring dependencies are in the same version.

Cannot reach spring-boot-starter-parent dependencies

I'm using https://start.spring.io/ to create Spring Boot project and in development I can't reach spring boot starters these dependencies:
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework.ws</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-ws-support</artifactId>
<version>3.0.10.RELEASE</version>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-oxm</artifactId>
<version>5.3.2</version>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>org.apache.httpcomponents</groupId>
<artifactId>httpclient</artifactId>
<version>4.5.13</version>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>com.sun.xml.messaging.saaj</groupId>
<artifactId>saaj-impl</artifactId>
<version>1.5.2</version>
</dependency>
I get warning messages:
Overriding managed version 5.3.1 for spring-oxm
Overriding managed version 5.3.1 for spring-oxm
Duplicating managed version 4.5.13 for httpclient
Duplicating managed version 1.5.2 for saaj-impl
I've searched for how to fix it, one of the workaround some people refers to use <!--$NO-MVN-MAN-VER$ --> at the end of the </version> tag to ignore the warning.
My question is how to make these (and other future dependencies) be seen from spring boot?

Solution is to remove <version>...</version>, let Spring boot handle the versions.

The version of spring-data-r2dbc that you are using isn't compatible with the versions of the other Spring Data modules that Spring Boot 2.3.x uses by default.
Spring Boot 2.3 has dependency management and a starter module for Spring Data R2DBC so you can align the versions by using the starter and removing the versions from your pom.
Replace the following three dependencies:
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework.data</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-data-r2dbc</artifactId>
<version>1.0.0.RELEASE</version>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>io.r2dbc</groupId>
<artifactId>r2dbc-spi</artifactId>
<version>0.8.0.RELEASE</version>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>io.r2dbc</groupId>
<artifactId>r2dbc-postgresql</artifactId>
<version>0.8.0.RELEASE</version>
</dependency>
With the following:
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework.boot</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-boot-starter-data-r2dbc</artifactId>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>io.r2dbc</groupId>
<artifactId>r2dbc-postgresql</artifactId>
<scope>runtime</scope>
</dependency>
The spring-data-r2dbc and r2dbc-spi dependencies are both part of the spring-boot-starter-data-r2dbc dependency that replaces them. The versions are provided by the dependency management in spring-boot-starter-parent.
If you have a similar problem in the future using the Explore feature of https://start.spring.io can be useful for figuring out how your pom should look.

How resolve problem with tomcat ? Spring-Boot " Failed to scan"

this is my first spring-boot project and i have problem with tomcat. Server don't wan't to start. Glass fish is not used in the project, the more I am surprised by this message. The project was created in Maven.

i have also faced this problem so we can't use concurrently spring-boot-starter-web and spring-boot-starter-jersey because glassfish is part of jersey so just remove any one dependency from both of them in my case i removed starter-jersey

finally problem has been gone please try it
You should add the packaging to war at the pom.xml:
<packaging>war</packaging>
It seems something wrong with your dependencies : can you check this typo
tomcat-embed-jasper dependency
providet
Other question why you have two dependencies if you are using tomcat one will be fine.
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework.boot</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-boot-starter-tomcat</artifactId>
<scope>provided</scope>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>org.apache.tomcat.embed</groupId>
<artifactId>tomcat-embed-jasper</artifactId>
<scope>providet</scope>
</dependency>
check that example pom
spring boot web dependency is enough it already includes tomcat. You don't need to explicitly define tomcat dependency
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework.boot</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-boot-starter-web</artifactId>
</dependency>
If it is a new project i would try to run a standard project generated on: https://start.spring.io/. This way you can be sure the project should be runnable and any failure is to blame on anything other than the project or IDE. If that does not run i would reinstall Tomcat.

How to fix an error with maven plugin and java version when deploying project on heroku?

I've been trying to deploy Spring Boot project on heroku using git hub repository, but I keep getting an error:
[ERROR] Failed to execute goal org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-compiler-plugin:3.7.0:compile (default-compile) on project charity: Fatal error compiling: invalid target release: 12 -> [Help 1]
I've tried creating system.properties, as adviced on Heroku:
java.runtime.version=12
maven.version=3.7.0
and adding heroku plugins to pom.xml.
I am copying the pom.xml file below:

What am I missing?
Modify your system.properties file to look exactly like this:
java.runtime.version=12
Then make sure it's committed to Git and pushed to Github using git ls-files.
You don't need to the maven.version, and if you want to control your maven version you should use the Maven Wrapper.

No SpringExtension.class

I am trying to setup Spring Boot + JUnit5... So by tutorials I could get so pom.xml:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

And tried to make a test:
ExtendWith(SpringExtension.class)
#SpringBootTest(webEnvironment = SpringBootTest.WebEnvironment.RANDOM_PORT)
public class UserControllerTest {
#Test
public void register() {
}
}
But there is not the SpringExtension.class, I can't import it.
Error:(7, 13) java: cannot find symbol
symbol: class SpringExtension
How to fix my pom.xml or maybe can I use a some another class?
P.S. I'm a noobie in the Spring so my question may be stupid but I can't get how to resolve.
The problem is with the version of Spring Boot. You are providing 1.5.9.RELEASE, but that class is provided from Spring 5 (according to SpringExtension), so try to use newer version of Spring Boot like 2.0.0.BUILD-SNAPSHOT or another extension like that one.
Your spring-boot version 1.5.9.RELEASE will not support Junit 5. Please change the spring-boot version to spring-boot-starter-parent version 2.0.0.BUILD-SNAPSHOT
Add the below line to your pom.xml
<parent>
<groupId>org.springframework.boot</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-boot-starter-parent</artifactId>
<version>2.0.0.BUILD-SNAPSHOT</version>
</parent>
I Had a similar issue and it turns out the jar file, located at ~/.m2/repository/org/springframework/spring-test/5.0.5.RELEASE/spring-test-5.0.5.RELEASE.jar was corrupt. I had to delete the jar and refresh pom.xml
