How do I connect my intelliJ controller class to scene builder?

I am making a user interface that is able to connect to a mySQL workbench database that can add, update, and delete information. When I try to connect my controller class to my fmxl file in intelliJ, I get an error. It says
Invocation Target Exception
However, when I don't have it connected, my program runs and I am able to see my GUI but I am not able to execute any of my methods as they are not connected.

As the error message says, there should be an error in the body of your start() method, the method which you usually override in the 'main' class. (not main() method) That may be an error caused by the database connection. Please re-check your code or attach your code with your question.

How can i get Gradle to run with javaFX and mongoDB?

Error linking fxml file to controller with no package javaFX

I'm new to both javaFX and intellij Idea. I'm trying to connect my JIMachine.fxml file to Controller.java file by using the attribute "fx:controller" as shown below. From what I have gathered, you have to use the fully qualified name of the class in order for it to find it. The files in this project are not inside of a package, so I believe the fully qualified name should just be "Controller", however, I get the error below when I attempt to run the program.

Exception running application JIMachine
I'm not able to post a picture so I can't directly show the file tree but the sources root is C:\Users\Max\Java\JavaFXTest
Inside that folder are the .idea folder for configuration items, as well as the files "Controller", "JIMachine.java" (shows as "JIMachine" in intellij), "JIMachine.class", "JIMachine.fxml".
Is it an error with the fx:controller attribute or something else?

This problem as been solved here, the issue is the nullpointer exception raised by the method getResource(), simply use
