I'm trying to write a servlet which makes a query to a database, but when it runs, I get this error:

The table:
As you can see from both the code and the table, the column PROGRAMMEDescription exists normally. I can't understant why Java think it doesn't. Any ideas?

I think it may be because the field is not in the database! Perhaps you should get the sql statement executed this time and execute it once in the database to determine whether the field exists in the database!

I want to insert data to my table, I have an insert statement (to the same table) that I use in a different method which works in one method, but returns an JdbcSQLSyntaxErrorException: Column xyz not found; in another.
where xyz is the value I want to pass into the column (not the column name).

So if stockCode contains the value xyz, the exception will be Column xyz not found
I'm failing to understand why this works in one method, but returns an exception in another.
It works because newCode is a number which doesn't need quotes and doesn't work because stockCode is a string and needs to be quoted. Add single quotes around stockCode and it should work:

As a side note you should really use prepared statement.

It actually works fine but at some tables there occurs this SQLServerException:

I have checked which data types the tables have and they have in common that there is a TIMESTAMP data type in each table of them but at some other tables where TIMESTAMP occurs as well, the exception does not appear. What could be the reason for this exception?
I just had to check if it was a timestamp column and if so then replace setObject with setDate

According to the documentation columnType==93 means timestamp so that is what is checked in the if clause. After doing that the insert and set works fine.

Connection to remote Mysql database closing

I made a java app on my local machine which is connecting to a remote MySQL database, when I run on localhost it works OK, but on the remote connection after a few seconds without interaction it is losing the connection and brings
No operation allowed after connection closed.

I have tried to remove con.close from my code but still the same.
How do I keep the connection alive until I close the app?

Create a PreparedStatment with that sql and insert the values with index:

this can also be done like this if you don't want to use prepared statements.

Why it didnt insert value is because you were not providing values, but you were providing names of variables that you have used.
This should work for any table, instead of hard-coding the columns.

There is a mistake in your insert statement chage it to below and try :
