I would like to try the Volley library on my plain maven project with java 8 or 11. I am however not able to add this dependency properly. It is an android library by google. So I am not using android studio, but just Intellij IDEA with maven.
When I add it as:
<dependency>
<groupId>com.android.volley</groupId>
<artifactId>volley</artifactId>
<version>1.1.1</version>
</dependency>
I am getting: Cannot resolve com.android.volley:volley:1.1.1
When I include the type pom as instructed here: https://bintray.com/android/android-utils/com.android.volley.volley/1.1.1#
<dependency>
<groupId>com.android.volley</groupId>
<artifactId>volley</artifactId>
<version>1.1.1</version>
<type>pom</type>
</dependency>
I am not getting errors, but I cannot use the java class from my java source.
I also included the following plugin
<plugin>
<groupId>com.simpligility.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>android-maven-plugin</artifactId>
<version>4.6.0</version>
<extensions>true</extensions>
</plugin>
I know that this library is not available at maven central, so I added jcenter as additional repository:
<repository>
<id>bintray-central</id>
<name>Bintray Central Repository</name>
<url>https://jcenter.bintray.com</url>
<snapshots>
<enabled>false</enabled>
</snapshots>
</repository>
Any idea if it would be possible what I am trying to do?

The issue is related to maven moving to https only: https://blog.sonatype.com/central-repository-moving-to-https
I have found that my problem was that Netbeans (8.2) was set to use the bundled maven executable (3.0.5). This version of maven is outdated and does not automatically reach for the https repo.
I have a newer version installed (Apache Maven 3.5.4 (Red Hat 3.5.4-5)
) that worked by executing mvn clean install in my project's directory.
To get Netbeans to use a different version of maven you can go to Tools->Options->Java->Maven and in Maven Home point to where your maven installation is located. For me it was /usr/bin/mvn and I had to define the path as just /usr as it seems that Netbeans expects to find a directory named bin containing the mvn executable.
Also, related to maven moving repositories, for certain old dependencies I had to use the now insecure endpoint in my maven config:
<pluginRepository>
<id>Codehaus repository</id>
<url>http://insecure.repo1.maven.org/maven2/</url>
</pluginRepository>
Just adding this in case it is useful to anyone.
You should update your maven version, the last maven version use https.
Download maven https://maven.apache.org/download.cgi (binary zip file) and extract it.
In netbeans, go to Tools -> Options -> Java -> Maven. In Maven Home select Browse, and select the folder where you extract maven
Enjoy it!
While the other responses give you workarounds by manually configuring the repository or a more recent version of Maven, the true source of the problem is that Netbeans (8.2) has became obsolete and is no more updated, you'd better migrate to Apache Netbeans (currently at version 11.3).
I fixed the issue by updating to latest maven version, it started to use https instead of http to download all the deps.
I changed maven version for global netbeans configuration Tools -> Options -> Java ->Maven ->Maven Home and Browse your maven installation of windows system (for example maven3.6) , i think so maven version embed netbeans 8.2 needs updated
I have a project which was deploying a maven-generated site to a nexus2 repository. Here's my current configuration:
<distributionManagement>
<repository>
<id>nexus-group</id>
<url>http://[some_url]/repository/[repo]-releases/</url>
</repository>
<snapshotRepository>
<id>nexus-group</id>
<name>Internal Snapshots</name>
<url>http://[some_url]/repository/[repo]-snapshots/</url>
</snapshotRepository>
<site>
<id>nexus-group</id>
<url>dav:http://[some_url]/repository/[repo]-site/[project]/latest/</url>
</site>
</distributionManagement>
I have recently updated to nexus3 and created a raw repository for deployment, but have encountered some issues.
It seems when creating Javadocs, a javascript file (script.js) is created in the /target/site/apidocs directory. Why am I unable to upload this file into a raw repository? This fails the build.
For every file which is uploaded I have a transfer error (even on the initial upload): java.io.IOException: unable to create collection: http://[some_url]/repository, status code = 400. Is this my error or Nexus'? Ultimately the upload is successful along with the build, assuming script.js isn't present.
In nexus2 content was conveniently grouped by artifactId which could be drilled-down to using the UI browser. Am I deploying incorrectly or is this feature no longer available? I haven't found anything to tell me otherwise.
Thanks in advance.
Have you added correctly webdav-jackrabit to your maven-site-plugin configuration:
<build>
<plugins>
<plugin>
<artifactId>maven-site-plugin</artifactId>
<version>3.6</version>
<dependencies>
<dependency>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.wagon</groupId>
<artifactId>wagon-webdav-jackrabbit</artifactId>
<version>2.12</version>
</dependency>
</dependencies>
</plugin>
</plugins>
</build>
I am trying to import Ripple Effect library by using maven https://github.com/traex/RippleEffect.
It says "The lib is available on Maven Central, you can find it with Gradle, please". I have no idea what Gradle, please is and it's information (http://gradleplease.appspot.com/#rippleeffect) didn't help me at all.
I found how to import it by using maven. I added this dependency to my POM:
<dependency>
<groupId>com.github.traex.rippleeffect</groupId>
<artifactId>library</artifactId>
<version>1.3</version>
</dependency>
and made sure that I have Maven central repository:
<repository>
<id>central</id>
<name>Maven Repository Switchboard</name>
<layout>default</layout>
<url>http://repo1.maven.org/maven2</url>
<releases>
<updatePolicy>always</updatePolicy>
</releases>
<snapshots>
<enabled>false</enabled>
</snapshots>
</repository>
However, when I try to run the project, it says:
Failed to execute goal on project ProjectName: Could not resolve dependencies for project lt.adnera:ProjectName:apk:0.0.1-SNAPSHOT: Failure to find com.github.traex.rippleeffect:library:jar:1.3 in http://repo1.maven.org/maven2 was cached in the local repository, resolution will not be reattempted until the update interval of central has elapsed or updates are forced
Any ideas?
According to http://repo1.maven.org/maven2/com/github/traex/rippleeffect/library/1.3/library-1.3.pom the packaging is aar so there is no jar which can be downloaded.
Try:
<dependency>
<groupId>com.github.traex.rippleeffect</groupId>
<artifactId>library</artifactId>
<version>1.3</version>
<type>aar</type>
</dependency>

I am trying to create Java WebSocket client (STOMP + sockJs) following
this sample. But I am not able to find maven/gradle dependency for
org.springframework.web.socket.messaging.WebSocketStompClient
Even maven search did not give any results.
After some searching I found that this is a part of
4.2.0.BUILD-SNAPSHOT
and the javadoc for this class is here.
I have tried to import
org.springframework:spring-messaging:4.2.0.BUILD-SNAPSHOT
and
org.springframework:spring-web:4.2.0.BUILD-SNAPSHOT
But I was not able to import this class.
I want to know if it is possible to import the 4.2.0.BUILd-SNAPSHOT from gradle.
If it is possible how do I know which spring module (like spring-web / spring-messaging) from the javadoc?
EDIT : am I correct in assuming that it is part of 4.2.0 from the Javadoc URL?
You need to add the snapshot repository if you want to use them:
<dependencies>
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-context</artifactId>
<version>4.2.0.BUILD-SNAPSHOT</version>
</dependency>
</dependencies>
<repositories>
<repository>
<id>spring-snapshots</id>
<name>Spring Snapshots</name>
<url>http://repo.spring.io/snapshot</url>
<snapshots>
<enabled>true</enabled>
</snapshots>
</repository>
</repositories>
Please add this in your POM.xml :Please match the version with your Spring-framework version.
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-websocket</artifactId>
<version>4.0.0.RELEASE</version>
</dependency>
Then do a mvn clean && mvn install from console if you are on linux or maven install from Eclipse.
I was not able to import 4.2.0.BUILD-SNAPSHOT but I was able to import 4.2.0.RC1 release.
I checked the pom.xml of the sample and just imported the same version as it is.
The problem is that I'm trying to make somelike the helloworld with Activiti but I have an error here
<dependency>
<groupId>org.activiti</groupId>
<artifactId>activiti-engine</artifactId>
<version>5.1</version>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>org.activiti</groupId>
<artifactId>activiti-spring</artifactId>
<version>5.1</version>
</dependency>
the error is the following: 'Description Resource Path Location Type
Missing artifact org.activiti:activiti-engine:jar:5.1 pom.xml /IllMakeThisTestApp line 29 Maven Dependency Problem
Trying to resolve it I've found the following recomendation here: "The download contains all the libraries that you need to work with Activiti. But for developers that prefer to use Maven, add the following reposiory"
<repositories>
<repository>
<id>Alfresco Maven Repository</id>
<url>https://maven.alfresco.com/nexus/content/groups/public/</url>
</repository>
</repositories>
But where shall I place it? To the file called settings.ini placed in M2_HOME/conf? This file is full of comments with no any sign of repositories. So I have no idea how to do this and ask you for help
You should place that in your pom.xml - see the Maven reference on the subject:
<project xmlns="http://maven.apache.org/POM/4.0.0"...
...
<repositories>
<repository>
<id>Alfresco Maven Repository</id>
...
You will only need to tinker with the Maven config if you need to setup a mirror for the repo, eg. in case your organisation has it's own Nexus/other repo mirroring the outside "world".
Cheers,
You can place right under project. For example
<project>
....
<repositories>
<repository>
<id>spring-snapshots</id>
<url>http://repo.spring.io/libs-snapshot</url>
<snapshots>
<enabled>true</enabled>
</snapshots>
</repository>
</repositories>
</project>
In default maven will try to download all the artifacts from maven central. You can add any number of added repositories using tag given above. Alfresco is yet another open maven repository.
