I am trying to create login and registration form using spring. I'm new to spring.

I made a simple CRUD application using Springboot, JPA and derby stack. I have implemented create and read functions but they result in NullPointer Exception.
The application is able to connect to the database as I can see the data written by EmployeeInit.java in ij console.

I think there is a bean issue, you missed autowire for repository.
Try #Autowired
private EmpRepository repo; in controller.
Creating a constructor is not required in controller.

I tried running your code using Junits.
And it shows perfectly fine results.
So Now I see two possible issues.
The Gson version you are using might have some problems.
The String that you get from the entity might be incorrect.
Can you please check both of those things?

I am trying to develop a restful web service with spring boot but am getting errors and i have tried different things but don't know what the problem is nor how to fix it. The error message is pointing to my rest Controller class but i don't see why. Here is the error trace from my browser:

I just got it, thanks for your contributions. After using the autowire annotation just above the private userLogDao and it did not work even though that was a valid suggestion, I spotted another error in my code which was that i used the wrong relative path on my GetMapping. Instead of "/userLog" I used "/log". Am so excited. Thanks all!
(Easy fix!;) You forgot to:
